Hey! Thanks so much for playing & reviewing, Jim Reeves', "He'll Have To Go". My dad introduced me country music at a very young age & whenever we were out anywhere that had a jukebox he'd give me 25 cents, because in the 1960's you got 1 song for a dime or 3 selections for 25 cents. My dad would tell to go find this song & play it. So, this taught me how to listen to the story & I always wondered how it turned out for the guy on the phone? Yes, Jim Reeves is smiling at the end of the song. Well, that's what all the entertainers did back in the day. They got dressed up in a suit & tie & always smiled for the audience even if they were singing a gut-wrenching song.

I remember Jim Reeves well. Such a loss when he died. This song has a special place in my heart. I used to sing this to my late wife every time I called her before we were married, not because I thought there was someone else there, but for the opening 2 lines. It is so Ironic that I was singing this last night and was going to ask you to play it. If you want to know how it turned out, you'll have to listen to the sequal by Jeanne Black titled "He'll have to stay."

Jim Reeves left in an airplane from my hometown in 1964 and his plane crashed later in TN killing him. So much talent killed in plane crashes in those days, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, then later to Jim Croce & Lynard Skynard band members. This is such a smooth song. He was truly talented.

This is why I enjoy old-school country more than the so-called country that's out there in the 2020s. Even as far into the 1980s, country songs often told a story. In the 2020s most (not all) of country seems to be written by people that THINK country music is about tractors, and farms and small towns. Also, yesterday's country was done by singers and musicians who--for the most part--were not trying to be crossover artists. 2020s, some doofus thinks he is "country" just because he's wearing boots, jeans and a Stetson while singing about a pickup truck through his nose.

I like this song and he has such a nice voice. Makes me want to see you react to That Ain’t My Truck by Rhett Atkins.
