I was expecting Leyland to get voted in this time, but after hearing all week about how great all the candidates are and how much we heard about a couple of the others, they elect one person - ONE!!!

My favorite manager EVER! I been a Jim Leyland fan since I was a kid living in Detroit and admiring him from afar. As a kid I thought it was AMAZING what he did with the Pirates! Before Jim got to Pittsburgh the Pirates were the laughing stock of MLB and drawing like 3,000 fans a game to Theee Rivers Stadium. Once Jim was hired as manager he took a great young nucleus of players and help guide them to 3 straight NL East division titles and from there took the Marlins to a World Championship! His best work came in Detroit when he took over as manager of my Detroit Tigers. In 2003 the Tigers tied a record for least games won in a season, when they won 41 games and list 121! Three years later Jim Leyland took over as manager and took the Tigers to the World Series as a Wildcard. He managed the Tigers for 8 seasons and took them to the postseason 4 times once as a wildcard and 3 time as AL Central Division Champions. In another season he took the Tigers to a Game 163 vs the Twins in a playoff to get to the playoffs, and just missed as the Twins won on a walkoff hit in extra innings. Not only was he a great manager but he was a Hall of Fame human being and i actually teared up when I heard one of my heroes in life made the Hall of Fame!

Finally! Jim Leyland is a great man. My uncle is his golf mentor down in Sarasota Fl. and I’ve had the honor of playing golf with him 4 or 5 times, along with his son Pat and Gene Lamont (they’re very close friends and I’m glad he through a shoutout to his best buddy in this clip) and Jim is just a nice man all around. All three of them are great guys. Jim is the kind of guy you just enjoy being around. And he’s funny, you’re always smiling or laughing. Writes his name on the card as Skipper 😎. Jim Leyland loves his golf and I think that’s what he would rather be doing as much as possible at this point in life and as much as his back can take. But he loves baseball too. Baseball is life for those guys. Like many people of his stature, he just likes to talk about normal shit. Didn’t talk a lot about baseball. Mostly just golf shots and banter. This past June, my uncle came up to Michigan and the first thing when we met up he said, 82Camino, Jim handed me his old ball mark repair tool (switchblade style, from his country club in Pittsburgh) and said he wanted you to have it. Which brings me joy to have in my pocket whenever I play. Jim your record speaks for itself and you deserve it all and then some. Although us Tiger fans were so sad that we didn’t quite make it to the very end with you in 06 and in 2012, (which I think is maybe why it took this long for this to finally happen) you are SO well loved by your players, by your fans and by your friends that it means much more than just another victory. Our Jim Leyland years were a wonderful time for Detroit baseball. There are hall of fame managers out there that aren’t nearly as well loved as a person, or as a coach, in the way that you are. Congratulations Jim. Yes sir!
