    Nicely put. He's working in his comedy through difficult emotions and dark energy, self-judgement, anxiety, childhood wounds, self-esteem, connection to the divine, life purpose, self-control, self expression, self-acceptance, permission to be who you are, standing in one's power. And I'm only 16 minutes in! Cosmic, powerful stuff! He's been working on it his whole life. Close to home for me! I have to keep pausing.

    I saw this special when it came out on cable, way before, Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, Yes man, Me Myself and Irene, Bruce Almighty, The Truman Show, and most especially Man on the Moon. So much of this show embodies massive personas and ideas he later adapted into all of his greatest films. The fake nervous breakdown in his act was already tapping into the mind of Andy Kaufman, and looking to shock the audience rather than just make them laugh. To this day this is one of the most impressive solo comedic acts I’ve ever seen, all while remaining totally clean. This show will always be timeless, and a true testament to how much raw talent was inside of him already.

  • @Mangaka718

    @Mangaka718

    ngl the nervous breakdown section had my anxiety flaring up, I had to pause to relax a couple times. if shock was what he was going for, he succeeded 😅 tho im not sure of your definition of "clean," he certainly didn't swear but he *did* talk a lot about sex and drugs (and a sprinkling of mental health) XD so *maybe* not entirely family-friendly lol I do agree though, I can come back to this year after year and enjoy it just as much as the first time I watched it. A comedy classic.
