My twin sister passed away from ALS at 56 years young. She loved this song and her daughter sang it to her while she was bedridden. It is burned in my brain the lyrics, "In the end, only kindness matters!" As she lay dying struggling to even speak, she thanked the nurses...."Thank you for your kindness" As they gave her medicines and helped her. This song has greater meaning for me as it is entwined with my loss. Her last year of life it was her mantra...only kindness matters.

Decades later and I still get goosebumps as she sings "cause where there´s a man who has no voice there ours shall go sing!" This song always brings tears to my eyes. Jewels touches on some strings no one else can.

Right? We can all do something. Even if you're stuck in quarantine (HELLO from New Orleans!) but you can still donate blood, donate money, donate time if places like second harvest are still taking volunteers in your area. Raise money for things like diapers. Or even just checking on your neighbors specially if you know they are elderly. If we all do a little something, we won't be broken.

Just heard a excellent story about Jewel. Apparently when she had no health insurance she got sick. She was living in car and thought she would die, she was very poor and they refused to see her. A doctor did see her and gave her medication. She would have died. Then after she got famous her mother stole most of money. She kept going and is doing well in life now. Such a humble and sad story, but never give up life. God bless people who are struggling.

My favorite Jewel song & one of my favorite's of all time. As a Humanist Buddhist, I love how she sings WE are God's eyes & hands because WE are God, the spirit of love & kindness inside all of us and how we interconnect. Opposed to something that's outside of us. My daughter's middle name is Jewel, named after the singer & also because it does with her name, Crystalinda - that means "Beautiful Crystal" in Spanish.

It's crazy how God puts people in your life, even though it's for a second. I have been struggling with anxiety and depression and I walked into the grocery store "broken", but God put the grocery store clerk in my life for a reason. She asked me if I had heard this song and of course I replied yes! She started talking to me about what lyrics meant to her and I was in "awe" because that's what I needed to hear. May God bless her today and always. She made my day for sure!💕

I think the point is that Jewel was drawing on the experiences of her life when she wrote the song. She may have been rich at the time that she wrote it but That Will never erase the time when she was homeless.

God doesn't do it. It's just chance. When I worked at the children's Cancer ward at my hospital I knew 100% there's no divine and perfect entity watching over anyone. And If there was and that entity had the tiniest bit of mercy these innocent children would not be suffering while so many scumbags walked unharmed.

For comfort, I’d listen to my local light-rock station at night, and every time this song came on, I’d become transfixed upon it. It deeply touched my heart and helped me process my emotions in those dark times. On a musician’s note, this song really sealed me into valuing F natural minor as my absolute favorite chord/scale/key signature. Now, every time I hear anything rooted in F minor, I immediately gravitate toward it.

She refused and he did not pay her and hence she was living in her car cause she couldn't pay rent then her car stolen and had nowhere to go ! She started stealing things, food mainly and wanted to steal a dress that was $40 and thought I have to change and wrote this song about her hands stealing. Cheers

I heard this song at the shops the other day and remembered it being played to us at weekly reflection and religion class at my Catholic highschool here in Australia. I remember the teachers telling us Pope John Paul loved the song and we would reflect to it. I honestly was too young and immature to properly understand the meaning of the song but now, wow what a message. Can't believe she wrote this herself at such a young age.

This song saved me from having a nervous breakdown, hard day, heard it on my van radio. Next day became an Everyday Angel

I'm listening to Jewel Hands late March 2021 during the Cornavirus Pandemic wearing a mask New York Yankees practice social distancing and washing my hands! I've got my 2 doses of the Vaccine shot and now fully Vaccinate now! Please wear your mask practice social distancing and wash your hands Covid 19 is not done yet? We are all born enlightend We just get distracted to easily and for far to long and the road back is a place not to many people want to travel because of fear of them selves and the reality that the world their dreams created is slowly tearing apart the same world needed for the next generations of the enlightend . Some dreams should stay dreams. Our Pride needs to take a back seat

"Poverty stole your golden shoes, not your laughter.." greatest lyric in this song. difficult but truth. This woman's talent makes me think of that Journey song, "Girl Can't Help It." She is drop dead gorgeous, strong minded but yet soft-hearted and gifted. Even read her book of poetry. Yes, in the end kindness only matters right along with love, because ya'll that is all there is. Love behind eyes...

Jewel is drop dead gorgeous

I was in Phnom Penh on a Mission trip and as I listened to this, I begin to tear up as I begin to question how different our lives are even though we're all humans But in God's eyes, we're all the same I shall continue to serve the underprivileged as equal as I've done since 2015 til now Jewel has inspired me so much Thank you ❤

Saw her interview and decided to check on her music. During the interview, she demonstrated a high level of humanity, and her music is very much the same. I just wish her success.

These lyrics transcend time and are so beautiful. Jewels delivery take them up to a beautiful level of humanity.

My dad was a boxer and abusive to my mom. He was driving when I was little and asked me what this song meant. I said we control everything we do and how we treat people. Good dad lesson. Love you ♥️ I am never broken.

Song came in 1998, Used to play by Local FM, I was 14. The time flies so quickly, I'm in 38's now!

This song is amazing jewel is truly a gem

*When this song was released most people slept on it because everybody was expecting a big comeback song... instead we got the song we needed but just didn't know it. In fact less than 3 years later, 9/11 happened and the world fully understood the full impact of this brilliant gem. I agree when this song come out in 1998 I was 9 and I loved this song when it first come out listened to it over and over agin But yes today’s the song fits with everything that happened over the years with 9/ 11 when 2,977 people where killed it was tragic and still remembered till this day . And Then 18 to 19 teen years later Covid 19 hit and every thing was shut down and every one had to stay in quarantine and Covid killed the most people worldwide That was one of are most biggest tragedies I guess god was telling us something the whole time.

To me as a volunteer this to me is about, helping our fellow men, women & children ❤❤!!! God’s eyes & God’s hands ❤❤!!!

I miss those days..no responsibilities...less problems....only school stuffs...wake up..have breakfast..go to school..back home..do homework and watch tv...😢😢😢😢

Exactly. My mother had just passed away and I had just moved into a new apartment. The Monica Lewinsky scandal was going on and Titanic was still playing in theaters. Such a different time.

I agree with both. To me it's not about religion, the praying is an inner attitude and to me it doesn't matter if someone is religious or not. Someone religious can do hands on work as a prayer, and one without a religious belief system can have reverence in the way they do the work as well.

hol out of all the comments I have seen on KZread, this one is the most accurate, powerful, and meaningful. There's a lot to be learned from this... prayer can literally save lives. It's why I'm here able to comment this right now.

My hands are small but my heart is Big! We must use what God has given us to help others. Good song, with much humility and love. I will get down on my knees and pray, in the end only "Kindness" matters.
