LYRICS
Cutting through the darkest night with my two head lights
Trying to keep it clear, but I'm losing it here, to the twilight
There's a dead end to my left, there's a burning bush to my right
You aren't in sight, you aren't in sight
Do you want me
Like I want you
Or am I standing still
Beneath the darkened sky
Or am I standing still
With the scenery flying by
Or am I standing still
Out of the corner of my eye
Was that you
Passing my by
Mother's on the stoop, boys in souped up coupes, on this hot summer night
Between fight and flight is the blind man's sight and a choice that's right
I roll the window down, feel like I'm, I'm gonna drown, in this strange town
Feel broken down, I feel broken down
Do you need me
Like I need you
Or am I standing still
Beneath the darkened sky
Or am I standing still
With the scenery flying by
Or am I standing still
Out of the corner of my eye
Was that you
Passing my by
Sweet sorrow - He said call tomorrow
Sweet sorrow - He said call tomorrow
Do you love me
Like I love you
Or am I standing still
Beneath the darkened sky
Or am I standing still
With the scenery flying by
Or am I standing still
Out of the corner of my eye
Was that you
Passing me by
Are you passing me by
Passing me by
Do you want me
Passing me by
Do you need me
Like I need you too
And do you want me
Like I want you
(Passing me by)
Are you passing me by
Or am I standing still

I am a metal head and alt rocker, but hearing Jewel Kilcher's voice is like falling in love all over again, every single time. For three to five minutes, my wistful and often bitter loneliness is replaced by a hopeful belief that I can find a love that I have yet to experience but am able to have a slight understanding of what it would feel like.

This song is 20 years old, that's unbelievable. I was on a road trip up to Wisconsin Dells with my best friend and 2 other highschool buddies, and on the way up we listened to a mixed CD (made with Napster, what else), and this song was a clear favorite of the group, and we kept it on repeat a lot. It must have captured something ethereal and mysterious we felt while driving endlessly on the highway, or those frosty mornings on the campsite. We had a fantastic time. After the road trip, we all continued to listen and remember this song. Sometimes I wonder if music is nothing else but a container to put memories in. :)

Funny thing, I didn't used to like this song much. I don't know why. But I remember waking up early the next day after an awesome night with this girl. The fan was on. Sun was barely coming up. The window was open. Really fresh air. Kinda smelt like fresh cut grass and this song came on. Something about that atmosphere and the sound of this song just hit me right. Definitely is one of those rare moments in life where you truly feel amazing.

If she's born 20 years later, she would have been as big as Taylor Swift.
@ATMyles
28 күн бұрын
She was pretty big. The difference, I think, is that in the 90s when Jewel came on the scene, there were many great singer songwriters, including a lot of female artists, and countless rock radio stations, plus MTV and VH1 still played videos, so the fame was spread around more, and new talent was always coming up. Frankly, I don’t know if Taylor Swift would have stood out back then. Her music is fine, and she’s very attractive, but there were loads of hot musicians like Jewel - though none as hot as Jewel.

Jewel, Anna Nalick, Dido, Michelle Branch, Avril Lavigne, Vanessa Carlton, Liz Phair, Tori Amos, Norah Jones etc...man those were the golden days of Pop for Singer-Songwriters. Artists who actually got talent in songwriting and musical instruments...this kind of era ended with Taylor Swift in late 2000's

I was listening to this music on the radio when it first came out. I said to my 5-year-old in the car seat. "This is good music," My son says "Its Jewel Daddy." He is a musician no wonder he knew. I loved her because she was/is real. She did not fix her teeth right away. That is one of her enduring qualities.

2021 BABY! Love this song just pops in my head randomly! Its like life expectations versus dreams. I wish I did so much, but older now, I know those things are still possible but restricted against the conforms of society
A Jewel song to calm your quivering ,rivering nerves, Love is just what you needed, needed a sunshine over the boulevard.
I sometimes forget how great Jewel is
The voice of an angel.. It gives me chills listening to your music my dear!
I was 12 when this song came out. I will forever cherish 2001 a side 9/11. Best year of my life. Spiderman and Tony Hawk 2 came out that year.
This was always my absolute favorite Jewel song. Most fans loved her more popular hits like "Who Will Save Your Soul?" Or "Foolish Games", but I think her artistic talent & cool, angelic voice really shows in this song.💞 The lyrics are beautiful. Everyone that was a teen in the 90's can recognize Jewel's unique voice on the radio. I remember that she published a book of her poetry, but I never read it. As a fan of poetry & someone who also writes poems, I would be interested in reading it. You can't have a 90's playlist without at least one Jewel song. She was one of a kind. Other strong female artists from that time period were great too, like Sarah Mclachlan & Alanis Morrisette, but there's only one Jewel! Something about that voice, I can hear a faint innocence amongst her maturity when she sings.
Pure mountain spring water. That's what this sounds like to me.
