At 1:33:00 Jeff talks about seeing Artists and Models in 35mm on the big screen. In the mid to late 1990's I read in a film news magazine or paper that a theater in New Jersey would be screening a newly struck 35mm print of Artists and Models. I flew from Chicago for that weekend to see that film print. It is one of my favorite M&L pictures. I went from the airport, to a train, to a cab right to the theater with my luggage. It was such a beautiful print. It was well worth it. Then I went to visit my family in Manhattan.

The two times I met Kathleen Freeman, she spoke about how wonderful it was to work with Jerry Lewis. She said if there was ever a Jerry Lewis fans convention she would be a part of it as long as Jerry gave the ok. Meaning if Jerry approved of what was going to take place at the convention she would be there.

That would have been wonderful, if that happened. Maybe we can still have a fan convention, even without most of his co-stars gone. Perhaps Connie Stevens would attend, if anyone for a big name co-star. I believe Stella Stevens wasn't doing well, from what I heard.

What guests did Jerry interact with on those episodes? Is it possible for you to transfer those audio cassettes to cd? I transferred cassette tapes on JL from Joe DiCesare's collection, and there were good finds there.

I'm enjoying this conversation. I'm only 6 minutes into the video. When Jeff talks about getting to ask Jerry a question at the JL talk, it reminded me of a rather unusual experience in Chicago. When Jerry was talking onstage he was interrupted by that group of MD patients that are anti MDA and Jerry Lewis. Jerry tried to talk to them but ended up apologizing to the audience and walked off the stage. I was surprised and angry at these people for ruining it for the other 500 people in the audience. The group of protesters were seated right in front of me. I had brought with me some information about Stan Laurel and his fishing boat. That I knew Jerry would be interested in. I had a couple of questions ready too. So I was not going to miss my opportunity! I jumped over the first row of seats and up onto the stage. (Thinking all the time, am I crossing the line of superfan to.....?) I walked into the wings and thru the door that led out to the hallway. As I opened the door, Jerry was leaning against the wall. I remember seeing 2 or 3 other people to my left. Nobody was saying anything. But the expressions on their faces said, "Who the hell is this guy and what's he going to do"? I said, "Jerry I have an article about Stan Laurels fishing boat that I knew you would be interested in and I had questions too. Until you were interrupted by that group. I just want to give this to you". Jerry thanked me and took the sheets of photocopied article and looked them over. Then the "helpers" escorted me back to the stage area. The next day I saw a picture of those protesters online somewhere. I'm also in the picture on the edge of the frame. And that Stan Laurel fishing boat? I was eventually contacted by the owners who were restoring the boat. The owners asked if I could put them in contact with Stan's daughter Lois. I knew Lois because I was a member of the Laurel and Hardy Appreciation Society known as, The Sons of the Desert. A number of years later I was on that fishing boat and made a short video that you can see here. facebook.com/170669172980597/videos/1335099876537515

At 50 minutes Kayley talks about the rich colors in a comedy (Nutty Prof.) etc. I always wanted to ask Jerry about the colors he used on sets, the type of film stock used to capture that 60's rich color saturation look. How much of it was his cinematographer and how much was it his choice. Of course in The Ladies Man his use of color vs. black and white in the fantasy sequence is genius! The composition of each shot, the way he introduces the woman coming down from the top of the frame, their dance, the music from the Orchestra. What a perfect sequence.

Sorry I thought responded to this particular comment. I know mentioned it to you privately. But I think this whole comment has very important observations. How much of the color was Jerry's choice? I feel like that was never really asked of him to my knowledge. I need to go back over my translated copy of Bonjour Monsieur Lewis to see if any of this was discussed. I would think that some of the color choices were made by him, since these unique creations were present in The Nutty Professor, The Ladies Man, and to a lesser degree in The Patsy. But I agree, as a choreographer myself, that dance scene in The Ladies Man is brilliantly filmed. The dancing itself was pretty simple in some ways, and it was improvised by both Sylvia Lewis and JL. But it didn't need to be difficult movement to be visually brilliant.

All that Louis Vuitton luggage and the aluminum brief cases with his caricature stickers, and the rest of it. I picked those up at the S.F. airport and brought them to his hotel room at the St .Francis Hotel. Then when the weekend was over I went to gather them up to bring back to the airport. Those were the items I bid on multiple times and lost at the estate auctions. I did take pictures of them at the airport and in the hotel room. He really did take all of that with him where ever he traveled.

In the Errand Boy, when Jeff talks about the verbal gymnastics of the scene with Renee Taylor and Jerry. That has always been my favorite scene in that movie. I did not know it was Renee Taylor (The Nanny etc.). I saw Renee Taylor almost 2 years ago in her one woman show and I brought an 8x10 still from that scene with her and Jerry to get her autograph. She actually talks about getting that job and that scene in her show! Jerry wrote that scene for her.

About 32 minutes into this video Jeff discusses a big time Jerry Lewis fan who was an NBA referee (not coach) . Nolan Fine was his name. I used to sell lots of items to him starting with Ebay. But then selling directly to him.

King of Comedy by Shawn Levy is a must have, even if there are a few errors here and there, and occasionally snarky comments from Shawn. But I do think it was fair for the most part. Jerry Lewis: In Person is also a must for Jerry's point of view. The Arthur Marx written, Everyone Loves Somebody Sometime (Especially Himself) was not a fair book, and I can't really recommend it. There is some dialogue between Dean and Jerry that seems likely imagined since they were the only ones in the room. They were not interviewed for the book either. Our Roundtable co-host Alan did say he enjoyed that book though.
