Jeremy Hunt's bizarre defence of Tory donor's racist comments about Diane Abbott in Select Committee

Jeremy Hunt was asked about Frank Hester at the Treasury Select Committee this week, and his defence of the Tory mega-donor was as unhinged as you could imagine.

Jeremy Hunt is a most despicable person, he chooses not to increase taxes for the extremely rich, who would hardly feel it, but to cut national health insurance, supposedly to help raise workers take home pay, which reduces the coffers towards the NHS. It is already in a bad enough state of neglect by the tories destructive policies. The majority of workers would willing pay more national insurance, in order to improve the state of hospitals, doctors surgeries and the working conditions of the people working in them.

Tories and charities don't mix too many common people you know the kind unemployed, homeless, abused and forgotten. They have no interest in solving any of the problems in this country their aim is to cause division among different peoples they can then pick any group and use them as scapegoats. What we really need is more community workers who understand the problems and can help resolve them.

but Jeremy Cu.... erm Hunt.... he hasn't apologised for his comment's being racist and also recommending harm come to a member of parliament... he's only apologised for being rude, but if we boil it down, that apology is more accurately only cos he was confronted about it... I dare say he doesn't possess any iota of regret or remorse for what he's done... the fact that the Tories are willing to stand up for him and make excuses.... shows exactly what they are and what they stand for... to them an "apology" is a get out of trouble act... to avoid any repercussions but for the rest of us if anyone else made a comment about them, which was said cos we mean it... or was made out of context, do you think we'd be as lucky to avoid prosecution for what was said if we just simply say "I apologise, it was rude of me to say that" ? the answer would be no.... so why is it they seem to think they have a right to expect this to just go away? and why is it they expect the people or those who they or their donors make comments wishing that anyone who is of a certain ethnicity or background or financial status... should be shot? and who are they to expect no repercussions of such behaviour to ever occur.... I say we all hold them to the level of contempt they would hold us to if we spoke about them in such manner... and hold them in the level of contempt that they should be held in for behaviour that is totally unacceptable

Hester denies he was sexist or racist, so his views remain the same - this is obvious. Hunt framing this observation as being "canceled" is just indictative of the Tories commitment to culture wars.

He didn’t apologise for the statement, I would have more respect for Tories if they simply said the comments were racist but we need the money so we are keeping it because that’s the reality. This BS about being cancelled is also appalling

But there is a history of racist remarks. The comments directed at Diane Abbott are particularly egregious ones because they involves violence, but others are racist and offensive. Past and current employees say he regards these comments as humorous. Jeremy Hunt ignores other comments and keeps repeating he apologised. But that is inaccurate, he hasn’t he merely apologised for being rude not for being racist or threatening. Shame on his gaslighting.
