Here's an amazing method to removing a hub from a horribly rusted Dana 30. Big thanks to Sean, Doug, and everyone who gave feedback and shared their rusty jeep experiences!

@TryNDoxMe you can do pretty much anything. Thing is the wheel hub has a large surface mating area. Which means that if you paint ofer those machined contact surfaces you could cause some issues. Now, if you're referring to the knuckles calipers and other components with not much contact surfaces yea thats pretty much doable. For your wheel hub assembly. Coat plenty of anti seize and make your life easier in the future

I was just about to my wit's end. I was getting ready to pull the entire spindle to take it in and have the bearing pressed out. I came across your video and decided to give it one last try. It worked like a charm and only took about 3 minutes! Used this on a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 for the front driver's side hub. Thank you for taking the time to make this video!

For years I’ve been wanting a 1/2” impact but kept telling myself I didn’t need one. I could always use a breaker bar. Well yesterday I snapped two breaker bars trying to get the hub nut off. Today I bit the bullet and bought that impact because of this video. The damn nut came right off!!! Thanks !!!

Great hub hack! I have a '87 XJ with 300+ on it and I'm pretty sure it was parked in a creek for a couple of its years. Part of the reason that I found your video is that I was looking for other people that have dealt with the rotor being seized to the hub by rust (it actually is sound with plenty of meat, but kinda grew to the hub). I realized while you were going through the procedure that it isn't necessary to remove the rotor before the hub. The hub on this side turned out to be good, but I am replacing both since I got a great deal on a pair of new Timkens. I needed the rotor though and taking them off together allowed me to go over to the shop press and press the hub out, instead of cursing and banging and finding a puller ( it was really stuck on there).

Awesome hub hack! Thank you so much I've been fighting this 98 xj for a little while now, everything has been "smooth" for the most part , but recently noticed I had a bad front passenger wheel bearing, shop wanted 560$ to replace and align it. I decided to grab a new hub assembly for 80$ and try out my old 80's air compressor again, took the Axle nutt off like a champion but the hub is a different story lol. Gonna try the hack tomorrow fingers crossed, Thanks D

This looks like a good trick for getting that hub out. I have replaced a few of them for myself and other people. Usually you can take a cold chisel and go around the bottom of the hub base whacking it with a 4 pound hammer. That will usually get them moving. Also, an impact is a necessity for getting the axle nut off. I have broken 3 breaker bars trying to get them off. One thing i would never do is reuse that old hub assembly unless it was an emergency. And don't skimp on the quality for a new one. You dont want to end up spending several hours in the dark lying in a foot of snow during a blizzard 40 miles from the nearest parts store in West Virginia trying to replace one. Guess how i know.

Nice! Glad it worked out for you. Haven't seen that trick on youtube so you've definitely done the jeep universe a huge favor! I have the same Dewalt gun, bought it for when I did my lift in July. It's a beast. Only thing it couldn't handle was the leaf spring bolts... I was thinking about getting a 3/8's impact sometime too for the smaller stuff. It's great for those big bolts and nuts. I even took off a yoke nut with ease a few weeks ago. Cheers!

Yeah buddy, All the credit goes to you! I got the Dewalt to replace my weak air gun. I figured a the 20v would be a better investment than a giant air compressor (for now). I actually upgraded all my tools to Dewalt 20v ... so far I'm very pleased with them. Thanks again Sean!

I'll agree with you on the Ram 3500s driven through the winter in New York. A guy is looking at at least an hour of cursing and beating before they come out and I always anti seize the hubs before putting them in, too bad the factory doesn't. Since I started driving a 3500 about 16 years ago I've done probably a dozen hub pulls for various reasons. I watched this video hoping to see something revolutionary that I hadn't tried yet. Still a good video.
