I've got a 2000 Jeep cherokee that I need to replace the front u joints in. Found a 250 ft lbs torque wrench on Harbor Freight. Now just need for it not to be so hot to replace it.

Wheel bearings are one of the spots where you pay attention to what the book says. Because too tight can be as bad as too loose. If you *have* to do without the proper tools, the old-fashioned way is to tighten it until it just starts to drag, and then loosen it until it just spins freely. But with modern bearings the amount of leeway is pretty unforgiving.

When replacing the hub assembly always clean the knuckle really good and liberally use antiseize, I've had my current zj for 270k miles and plan have a long time yet, so whenever working underneath it use antiseize a lot, and even for living in the rust belt after the 1st time whenever have done anything things remain easy to disassemble for repairs

You should also note that Jeeps WITH ABS fitted are 30mm caps by 83mm in length. WITHOUT ABS fitted UJs are 27mm caps by 83mm length. So make sure you buy the correct size new UJs, as not one size fits all Jeep models.

Grab front drive shaft and turn it back and forth and if your joints moving around it’s bad.

Just about to do my right hand side on my XJ... Im doing a full replacement of shaft/cv etc... hope it vomes out Nicely 😊🚙🇦🇺

In its stock form they are not the same.

U-joints are in the driveshafts, proper nomenclature for the axle shaft ones is wheel joint,, the cherokee and grand cherokee took the same u-joint in all 7 positions until the model year when the manufacturer switched to cv type shaft in the front axle
