Jax the Skinny Puppy, EPI

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Meet Jax. Jax was going to be euthanized because he had been a sick pup his whole life. Dr. Matt adopted Jax because he didn't want that to happen and diagnosed EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency). EPI is usually pretty straightforward to treat but Jax had some life-threatening problems along the way. Follow Jax through his recovery!

    I like how Jax, after slipping further and further away after his surgery, one day just woke up, decided "Fuck this, I'm not ready to die," ripped out his own feeding tube, and started getting better.

    My dog was similar. He had infections from pancreatitis, his stomach was severely inflamed, his liver values were going up and up, he wouldn't eat, completely motionless, started dropping heart beats, was at the hospital for a month, put in a feeding tube and just like this guy he yanked it out and started eating. Tireless efforts from 24/7 vet care and my loving cuddles sitting on the hospital floor with him and he lived. That was a $6k bill. Another time he needed a $3k surgery. Dogs can be problem free (like his brother who's had no problems) but they can be very expensive. Over-breeding with no owner or breeder screening is just plain irresponsible when a life hangs in the balance.

    Bathesheba Beautiful I don’t think he was being underfed. Dogs eat grass when they have digestive issues or nutritional deficiencies. My hunch is that due to his pancreatic condition, he wasn’t absorbing any nutrients from his food. So despite being fed, he had nutritional deficiencies, which his body reacted to by saying “eat some grass! for the nutrients!”. And then it produced a vicious cycle of being unable to eat, making the problem worse.

    Just to clarify the cost of property, I bought 40 acres for 55 k. So yea its affordable and doable without being super rich. I should know I too live in Texas.... And I plan on buying more LAND!!!!!!!!!!! He is a vet, owns businesses and flips houses and still finds time to both entertain and make the youtube world a better place. He also has other channels. So the fact that the comment about him making money off of the channel merely for selfish reasons is asinine. If he makes bank due to his other channels, so what, HE has earned it! Nah....everyone /animals and humans/ have enzymes naturally. It's easier to just add to the food. Who knows about quality control at a plant packing. Depending on the size of the dog, you would need to add enough enzymes. Already canned could harm a small dog. Or, not enough for a large dog. Adding to the food exact amount for digestion is much easier. And cheaper. I do it for my cat uye to vomiting. So you can add more if the animal vomits often. See?

  • @oweirdone1

    @oweirdone1

    8 жыл бұрын

    +munna k Dogs will typically eat small amounts of grass, and that's perfectly normal. Even though they can't digest it, it typically gets passed through them by the other food that they eat. I'd guess whilst Jax was tied up outside that's largely what he was eating, and if he wasn't digesting his food then there'd be nothing to pass all the plant material through him

    I know this video is a few years old but all well. I have a lab/boxer/hound mix that nearly died when she was around 9-10 months old because she haf a bunch of crud (string and plastic mostly) I tool her I'm on a weekend for the E-vet. Her doctor managed to save her but like Jax she went even further down hill after her surgery. They ended up having me go to the vet when I got off work to sit with her and try to get her to eat. It took 3 days for her to even touch her room still don't get how she didn't die. She was thinner than Jax. I remember trying so hard not to cry the first time I saw her after her operation. She still struggles with weight but is now a happy healthy pup who turns 2 in November. Jaxs case was so simular to my pups that I wanted to share. Glad to see Jax also perked too

    one of our cats got sick. she wouldn't eat for two days, she was not social, she would barely move, and she hid under beds and closets. on the 2nd day I realized she wouldn't drink water. my boyfriend gave her water with a syringe feeder and he took her to the vet very early that next morning. they told us they can try to save her, but she may not make it. and then told us that it would not be cheap to run tests and treat her. it took a tow on our savings with my boyfriend being in college at the time and my restaurant wages. but, we came up with the money and ate Roman noodles for a while. the vets did their magic. she had some kind of parasite. from either an animal ( like a mouse or a bird) or a bug. they told us that we brought her in just in time. when an animal doesn't eat and looses weight it is a big warning sign!! their organs can start to fail, quickly. our cats are our little children. when we picked her up at the vet( 2 days later) to take her home, three of the employees told her bye and petted her and one of them said that she always loved to see a happy ending. once in a while you get some that are too far gone to help, or the families can't pay the bill. then she said we all just happy she made it. our cat is Happy and healthy. vets are awesome!!!!

    This case is probably the most intense, most heartwarming one of all vet ranch videos. You could really see how emotionally invested he gets into saving Jax. It was so up and down, and got to the point where jax was showing improvement, then suddenly nose dived... and you could just see in the vets eyes that he KNEW that Jax was gonna die. When he decided to do that emergency invasive surgery, and started pulling out all that grass I started crying. I have so much respect for this guy for going to that extra length to save the little guy. Seeing Jax starting to eat again after teetering on the edge of death for so long was enough to make me weep. I love vet ranch videos, but something about this video just puts it above the rest in my mind... such an emotional roller coaster.
