As a Canadian, DQ is one of my favorite JRPGs in the world. North Americans also super dig DQ8 (even though 3 and 5 are my personal favs)

In all honesty, I was initially disappointed that they used the 11th hero instead of Erdrick. Then they showed 4, 8, and erdrick and I was so excited I pooped and peed my pants.

Americans may not have cared for the Hero at first, but I think over time, the Hero's inclusion in Smash helped Dragon Quest grow in popularity in the West.

As an American gamer I was definitely excited for the hero in the roster. I grew up playing the first Dragon Quest in this series but I really fell in love with it when DQ8 came the west people really need to get this gem of jrpg a chance

The best part is many of the Japanese reactions I’ve seen were excited about Banjo-Kazooie too so they got two fan favourites back to back.

I can’t speak Japanese but I can tell they are very happy.

I just love how passionate Japanese people are about this game

They pretty much had the same reaction that I did with the Belmonts, minus the crying. Oh and that's a lucky Wooper doll.

Anyone els feel like on the Japan side because of feeling the same thing for Dragon Quest?

Definitely. Sis had DQIX, so as soon as I heard the Overture I was like "WAIT ISN'T THAT--". I didn't know Eleven, but when Eight and Arusu (that I knew from speculation as Erdrick), I knew it was 100% it. Zoom and Gigaslash sold me on the entire pack lmao.

I love that the hype started when the DQ theme started playing. Even if it wasn’t familiar to the majority of people outside Japan due to a combination of Enix's North America branch shutting down and Final Fantasy overshadowing DQ outside Japan, you gotta admit, many of our favorite RPGs would have been a lot different if it weren’t for DQ.

The ones that literally screamed and cried got me fucked up man .. that means soooo much to them. Only felt that way for K Rool but not even in that level.

Well, it probably makes me one since I don't know the first thing about reading and writing in japanese but can understand their language through sheer amount of anime watched.

I wish I live in Japan so I can buy all the dragon quest stuff I want! DQ needs more love in the west and 5:48 I'm guessing Samus and Zelda are supposed to be like Serena and Veronica.

I love the way Sakurai-san cares about Japanese people, not just Western by revealing Hero first before Banjo. This implies Japanese comes first, then the Western.

Personally, I'm already more excited about the Dragon Quest Hero in Smash than Banjo-Kazooie, because I didn't grow up with an N64 and Dragon Quest was my gateway into RPGs. But the sheer level of excitement from these players does even more when you put it into perspective. :) Despite enjoying the early Dragon Quest games, I haven't kept up with the series, and it's difficult to comprehend JUST how popular the Dragon Quest series has remained in Japan. It blasts Final Fantasy out of the water - just think about that. It's kind of amazing. :)

Just seen this makes my day, how they say the names of the spells, (by the way they sound way cooler in japanese). As a long time DQ myself, I was as excited as some guys of the video (not like the girl though haha poor pokemon almost got destroyed)

Dunno if the Hero would say the spell names in English or any other language besides Japanese... I mean...Hero would sound...weird when he says "Snooze" as he casts the soporific magic (the spell that made Pikachu fall asleep in the trailer)

A yes, was referring to the fans, citing the spells names, like the guy who was crying. In the manga translation they left the Japanese names, was until DQVIII that the names for English were implemented

Spell List seen in trailer: Sizz Sizzle Zap Zapple Swoosh Snooze Oomph Bounce Psyche Up Zoom Kacrackle Slash Kamikaze Kaclang ---------------- *Final Smash: Kazapple* There may be some spells yet to be seen but are canonically used by the Hero in Dragon Quest 1) *Evac* Can be used similarly to Palutena's Teleport 2) *Bang/Boom* A spell that can be used similarly to Palutena's Explosive Flame 3) *Hocus Pocus* A weird spell that can do random things in battle...not sure how it would be implemented in Smash but I would leave the details to the DEV team. 4) *Heal/Midheal* Okay, there's NO WAY a straight-up heal spell would be added to the Hero's arsenal....but what if Heal is used with Hocus Pocus? Heal can either heal you or heal the enemy based on a coin flip luck. 5) *Absorb Spell* Essentially Ness/Lucas PK Magnet, Hero can absorb incoming energy-based projectiles and heal himself. 6) *Buff* A spell that temporarily raises the Hero's defence, reducing incoming damage.

Are we certain that the first two attacks are from the Sizz family? From it looks of it, they appeared to be actual fireballs, so they could be the Frizz family of spells. Just my two cents.

@@sirgogetter I think there is only Sizz and Sizzle. No sense to add both Frizz and Sizz together given they are both fire elemental spells. Also, DQ1 and 2 used SIZZ as the fire spell

@@ahmedfalahy9337 You make interesting points, although it should be noted that the characters featured come from DQ3 and afterwards, so that second point is kind of moot on the basis of accuracy. Sizzle was also seen as one of the commands in the trailer, so it would seem odd for it to hold two special attacks. In any case, we will all know the real answer in due time.
