As a paramedic/heli pilot I once attended a guy who was involved in an overhaul on Tiger 131. Looking around the inside was extraordinary, but on seeing the Maybach on a bench, I was struck how puny and compact it seemed in relation to the tank size. Amazingly (overengineered) German workmanship.

The only thing which makes it shorter was the tunnelcrankshaft. Every other detail is like on most V12 of the time. Where is the over engineering? There Sherman m4a4 used a 30 cylinder Chrysler engine with 5 carburetors, the a2 and all M10 and twin diesel engines!

Its a pretty simple engine. The Germans have always been able to get a lot of power out of their engines without making them weigh a lot. The old guy at the beginning of this video should look at a modern AMG engine if he thinks the simple jagdpanther engine is complex.

Can someone build a custom manometer for measuring air flow through each carb at the same time? Hopefully it's just a clogged emulsion tube or float setting and no parts are needed. Cool asmr treat!

The Jagdpanther will always have a special place in my heart. It was the first tank model I ever built, more that 25 years back. It even had a similar color sheme like this one here. I really like the simple but very aesthetic shape of this tankhunter.

The amount of knowledge someone working on collections like these must build up is incredible. I'm sure there is some repetitive tasks to do, but the amounts of "we have a problem" *spends 3 weeks researching* {tackles problem} must keep it interesting.

Right, those Solex's are also prone to leaking after she is shut off and getting the plugs wet. And it could be cam timing on that side. Hopefully just a carb float issue like he thinks.

Maybach HL230 is a great motor assuming you have a truck of trained Mechanics following you as the German did. The closeness of the cylinders to each other always blew my mind. It's basically an HL210 bored out to 23 litres.

No, the Weald Foundation Jagdpanther 411 was issued to a Panzer unit. Our second Jagdpanther, where we have about 90% of the parts, is awaiting restoration. That is one that was sitting in the finishing hall at MNH in April 1945 and was eventually completed by REME.

If you are trying to test a system, you start from it's beginning. Before the carburetors, I would make sure to check the fuel tank(s), filter(s), and the pump(s). Whenever dealing with a gasoline engine, eventually a steel fuel tank will rust.
