Fun fact: he actually wrote this whole arrangement on nothing but a piece of toilet paper, using the tears of many frustrated musicians as ink. When he was only three days old, his mother taught him how to identify the pitch of the indoor oxygen in their living room. He is now 12 years old. There is a clip of him performing a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody using nothing but a bubblegum and a piece of string.

So Jacob does all of the production for his audio and video. He will add effects but he very importantly doesn't tune his vocals in his songs. So at the end, when he steadily climbs from B half-flat to B half-sharp, that is all done naturally. During his logic breakdown of Moon River, which was an hour and a half long, he called this section "the greatest harmonic journey he had ever been on".
@maxdriever7668
Жыл бұрын
To be accurate, he does sometimes retune his vocals but he does it manually as he just knows exactly how out of tune he sang a particular note on a certain take and can just adjust it himself without the use of autotune.

If you try singing along with the top note in the section that starts at 12:00 in your video, you'll hear as the key slides away from you. It's microtonal, he slows shifts up in between "traditional" keys into half-keys, quarter-keys.

This is the single greatest piece of music created in my lifetime, and I'm old. Watching this reaction video again I'm struck by not only the level of genius throughout but by the awesome power exhibited at the end. It's one thing to have the command of harmony Jacob has, but his command of form and the ability to build a 9 minute piece from beginning to end is staggering. Love the reaction, it is mine each and every time I've heard this, which is something like 50 times at this point.

This guy is at a completely different level than anybody else. If you want to see to what point, there is a video posted in youtube of one of his concerts last year in the US. Among the audience were his three dear friends Steve Vai, Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones. He had the audience give a round of applause to each one of them. One by one, they stood up and greeted the audience, but when Quincy Jones' turn comes, he does something unbelievable: he bows down to Jacob. QUINCY FREAKING JONES BOWS DOWN TO A 25-YEAR OLD KID! Any other evaluation is subjective. This? This is for real. Go watch it for yourselves: kzread.info/dash/bejne/poFh19OMoq2TgrQ.html

I know he said that, but I wonder. That would suggest he could have managed, say, 200 Moon River type arrangements over the previous 4 years. In fact there's just the one, with just a handful more in almost same league - so one or two "biggies" a year. I know he's a genius, and quite possibly at his lifetime peak when he did this, but I'm still taking his claim with a pinch of salt.

You should also watch June Lee's (who is one of the people in the beginning towards the end of the choir) transcription where you see everybody's name written IN TIME on the sheet music :) and yes he does the video production but in this video he had some help. It depends, he'll do a bunch of videos by himself and then a couple here and there that are more professionally produced. But you wouldn't really know or care lol. They're all unique.

It's one thing to have the command of harmony Jacob has, but his command of form and the ability to build a 9 minute piece from beginning to end is staggering. Love the reaction, it is mine each and every time I've heard this, which is something like 50 times at this point.

I've been around a long time too and this is one of the most amazing, beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. Having listened to this many, many times the ending still moves me to tears with it's beauty and power. I'm with you Eric.
The build-up at 9:13 and the release at 9:34 made me cry the first time i listened to it... and the second time... and the third...

@Total there’s nothing quite like this song. Never heard anything like it before, this guy is a genius genius
That last chord is like a kamehamehaaaaaa!! You can feel Earth's core disintegrate.
I said in another video that his arrangement of Moon River may have been the greatest thing I've ever heard/seen...made even more amazing when you hear how he wrote it. An hour-and-a-half breakdown session here - kzread.info/dash/bejne/a5hoj7eLqbqrerQ.html. I've been reading music and studying music theory all my life (I'm 57). Jacob makes me feel like an infant.
Jacob works in five dimensions! The micro-tonal singing is possible for him because of his perfect pitch the rest is genius on the highest level!
The most beautiful moment I think is actually around 6:29 , where in the utmost far left (in my ear at least), he does this very reverberated glide sound which almost sounds like a string. It’s something you can barely hear but it’s so beautiful
YES!!! Such a banger... Also, those people at the beginning include Eric Whitacre (GOD of Choral arrangements), David Crosby (Of Crosby Stills and Nash) and Herbie Hancock (we all know and adore him), and there are countless other crazy talented people as well!
The harmonized vocal runs are just indescribable
Genius!!!!!!! Pure and simple genius!!!!!! 😊💕
Just throwing this out here, I think you would truly love to listen to Jacob's logic breakdowns or masterclasses. These can be hours long so definitely don't do it for a reaction or anything! But in your own time, please consider checking them out. The way he thinks about harmony, sound, it is just eye-opening.

You really have to check those out indeed. Both from Moon River and All Night Long. Amazing to hear and see him explain how he made all this :-)
One was Jules Buckley of The Heritage Orchestra. I recognize many from music industry. Quincy Jones. Etc He’s 28 now as of 2022. I’ve watched your reaction over and over and over!!!!!!!! It’s EXACTLY what I experience with this guy! Chills on top of chills. Jacob is way above genius in my opinion! Thanks for always having great reactions!!!!!!! 😊
FINALLY! I had been waiting for this one haha

This arrangement was actually only completed in 4 hours! It’s so insane that one can produce this in one sitting.

Brad.. same reactions when I heard it the first time..
the thing thats crazy about this is that he said he made it in 7 days in his logic session breakdown
Yesssss!! Check out the harmonic analysis on what all went into making these specific sounds for this arrangement. It's absolutely unbelievable.
Jacob's Moon River, is like seeing "Light Speed " in Star Wars for the first time....
10:00 that perfect 4th stack tho 👌
Brad, you have summed up beautifully my own reactions every time I hear this. I so appreciate your own appreciation of this genius. Simply the greatest arrangement of anything I've heard in my life. Thanks for this, made my day.
This jacob's moon river is like an epiphany almost like a religious experience.
To answer your question, he said this took him a week to arrange, perform, and record.

Jacob sees music in 8K, the rest of us are at 240p if we are lucky
It was pretty much seven days with very little sleep. He went down the rabbit hole with this one, big time!
I've been waiting for this one! This was a great reaction! Loved the comments in the middle of it! You should listen to With the Love of My Heart next! It will blow your mind musically!
And u can also check jacob collier singing blackbird on radio showcase version and see what he's doing with some stuff call "vocoder". Awesome dude But , You and I by Stevie Wonder covered by JC is still my fav song so far
Finally, the reaction we were waiting for!! AND SUCH A GOOD ONE! Cory Henry or Snarky Puppy next!!
You should react to You and I by Jacob next man. Its crazy.
Brad, brother I thought I had to call 911 for you!!! Outstanding reaction.
Amazing
Subscribed for the run you did bro!
Finally!!!! I've been waiting for this!!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
This is by far my favorite reaction of moon river lol
Finally brad steele haha! Please more reaction for JC/Dirty loops incoming
One of my favorite songs since it came out. Check out the version of Moon River by 2Cellos. Pay attention to the shadows in the video if you watch the official version.
great reaction. 👍🏼
I mean. I have heard this thing so many times, but my eyes are freaking wet yet again!!
Great Video Dude!!! So good to see someone react to this like i do!
He did this in 7 days...
Over 5,500 separate tracks in Logic and the only voice that wasn’t his was one high note from his little sister he couldn’t hit that night. No wonder he won a dammed Grammy!
You should have checked out the description underneath his videos. He puts all the information there. Every single name.
Now you see why people wanted you to listen... 😁 💖 💖 💖
thanks for that :)
You and Jacob are both kids. :-)
Finally!
You gotta review his cover of You and I. And the video for Over the Horizon!
Finally!!!!!!

Yeah, that's the most amazing part. It comes effortlessly, as if he was a... a... well a genius in the fullest sense of the term. Which he is by the way. He is a GENIUS genius.
I recommend listening to 'It Don't Matter' ft Jojo. Amazing.
Your intro is sick xD

Please do Jacob Collier Hallelujah on the piano :D this is him live.
Is that Chris Thile's head in there for the intro?!
fun fact: i saw jacob live a week ago, and he had a wacky waving inflatable arm man pop out during the encore
Please check out either his Danny Boy or Hide and Seek versions! Both feature his famous harmoniser! :D
Jacob is the same age as you
It took him 7 days
There is a reason he has won 5 Grammys lol
To answer your question at 5:46, he's, as of now, the same age as you are. His birthday just passed, so...
Imagine if it was cows on the intro haha
He's 25 now
I never watch reaction vids i usually think they r corny n fake. But i like yours
please react to jacob's iharmu
He's 25 years old
I may be really getting old, but Andy Williams will always own Moon River.

Jim Reeves did this song in 1964. He had the most beautiful, soothing voice. I saw “Moon River” and was thrilled, thinking it was him. 😏
I know you already know that since your all ready subscribed to them, but Home Free is releasing their 6th video since Quarantine. It's gonna be God Bless the USA With Lee Greenwood and the U.S.Air force Band. I saw the making of the video last Friday and it's going to be special. It's at noon by the way. Have never listened to this young man but he did an excellent job. God bless and stay safe
Hes 25
if ur face becomes very ugly, it means that part of the song is really really good ngl
ya-ta-CKGHAAA
Jacob is 25.
You have to react to Close To You by Jacob Collier!
React to something by Sam Robson
Have you watched his logic session breakdowns? He did one for Moon River: kzread.info/dash/bejne/a5hoj7eLqbqrerQ.html

Tbh, I don't think that's where his talent lies. To me, his self-penned songs and (cringe) lyrics almost seem facile compared to his mind-blowing arrangements. He's a genius musical nerd, not so much a creative songwriter or artist, imo.
Why do pragerU ads have to destroy all beauty
14:32
Not from this planet........no one deserves to sing his stuff. Except for maybe dirty loops
How do you fuck up "Moon River? You give it to this dude. The beauty of that song is it's simplicity. Fail.
