  • @DADvinci

    @DADvinci

    3 жыл бұрын

    @p24hrsmith Good day and thanks for your comment. I'm sorry that it didn't cover it for you. The variations of what these devices can power and for what duration are vast, so it's difficult to provide the specific relevance to every viewers situation. As you may or may not have seen, there are a large number of comments on this channel where viewers have provided the specifics of what they want to run and I've provided estimates. There is a 'rule of thumb' calculation I use to provide a very rough estimate on device runtime. My own assumption is that real-world usage means you get around 80% usable capacity (can get more or less). So, as long as you know the consumption in watts of the device(s) you can divide the capacity in Wh by W. For example, 240Wh @ 80% (real-world) = 192Wh ÷ 80W (TV) = 2.4 hrs runtime. I hope this helps. All the best, Adrian

The links to this and the larger 100W version are in the description under ALLPOWERS Portable Solar Charger. Of those links, AliExpress is usually cheaper than Amazon and getting it delivered from Germany or Spain is the better option. @John Lane Hey John! I use my 'real world' rule of thumb when trying to provide rough estimates. In the case of the 240, I assume 80% capacity is useable meaning that 240Wh @ 80% = 192Wh. Then divide this by the load, 192Wh ÷ 100W (expected load) = 1.92 hrs runtime. This is a very rough estimate and you could get more or less. I hope this helps. Cheers, Adrian

    I love the video! I’m not very technically minded, but I have bought this Jackery for camping, main reason being to run usb led string lights in awning/flag pole, but also for the 3 pin to charge our viewsonic projector. The projector can also be charged with a power bank as long as it is a pd min 45w (12v 3a) I think? Is it more energy efficient to use the 3 pin or an adapter for the pd from 12v like you show in the video? Or would it not make a difference? Thanks in advance..

  • @DADvinci

    @DADvinci

    2 жыл бұрын

    @maz8869 Good day. Thanks for your generous feedback, it's much appreciated😊. I usually try to avoid using the AC inverter where possible due to the background power (even with nothing connected) it draws. You're affectively taking the DC power in the batteries and turning it into AC mains power for the 3-pin socket and then using an adapter to bring it back to DC power. There is still a little background power (overhead) using the regulated 12V socket and the 12V PD adapter, but not as much as with the AC route in my experience. I hope this answers your question? All the best, Adrian

    @James Willis Good day James. Thanks for your kind feedback, it's very much appreciated😊. This is a tough one to answer straight up as it's down to individual requirements. I've just got the Jackery Explorer 500 to review and I've had the ALLPOWERS 666 for some time now, but don't have a PowerOak AC50S so it's difficult to say on that one. I must say that the PowerOak EB150 (had over a year now) has been brilliant, just does what it says on the tin (no fuss). The ALLPOWERS has more features, more capacity and faster 'dual mode' charging, but has a few quirks with a known issue on the AC output popping out (which is usually down to the customer to fix, with a video from the manufacturer - not everyone is happy about this). The Jackery has a regulated 12V cigarette lighter output keeping it around 13.5V for the whole charge (ALLPOWERS stays just above 12V until end of the charge). The Jackery also charges faster using a standard cigarette lighter cable in a car (although you can dual charge the 666 using dual mode from a car if you have two cigarette lighter outputs and the right cables). The Jackery feels better screwed together, with the support that you'd expect from a US brand. Was there something specific you wanted me to answer? All the best, Adrian

    @@DADvinci My Jackery 1000 is going back already. USB C ports would only charge stuff like phones, but when it came to higher drain like a mini laptop....absolutely nothing! (My BEAUDENS 384Wh charged the same device fine) Then to add insult to injury I just tested it with my two heated throw blankets and the fan is really loud. When I run the same two heated throw on the Beauden 384 Wh, I can barely hear the fan! I had to put my ear right close to hear it. The fan was also loud when charging up the mini laptop, and a 14'' one (switched off) through the AC. Testing the same on the BEAUDENS Portable Power Station 384Wh and the fan is silent. After all of the anticipation. I won't be buying another Jackery. Surely it can't be that difficult to build with a quieter fan. I remember the quiet fans in PC power supplies. I want something like the BEAUDENS Portable Power Station 384Wh, but with 1000 Wh, any suggestions?

  • @DADvinci

    @DADvinci

    3 жыл бұрын

    @Mr Everybody Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that☹. I wish they sent me one of those as well, then I could have tested it out/share the results. I wonder if the USB-C PD ports are only 45W, instead of the 60W on the Beaudens. The Beaudens has the quietest fan out of all my solar generators and even when running the 500W kettle I have to check it's on! The EB150 has fan noise most of the time it's charging over 100W or using more than 400W off the inverter. It's not quiet, but has a better quality fan so is easier to live with. I've had it a year now and it's a workhorse that just keeps going about its business under the counter in my kitchen (until we can start going places again). It's powering my fridge freezer overnight at the moment as it has been sunny. It's not cheap when compared to a simple DIY build (battery + solar hybrid inverter), but it's a very good unit from my experience so far. They did do a 1000Wh version too (PowerOak AC100), but that went out of stock almost immediately. Have you considered a DIY build?

Are all the components you've mentioned powered at the same time whilst you are performing? Do they all need AC (mains) power or can some run on DC power (12V)? • @DADvinci

    Жыл бұрын

    @rezacapitan-xb4gu Thanks for your kind feedback 👍. I've checked the Jackery manual and it references this > "Smartphone (18W max) around 25 recharges". That's very generic, so it's difficult to say how many times it would charge your 13 Pro Max without having the same phone myself. I've had a look for the iPhone battery specification on your model and it shows 16.75Wh for capacity. This Jackery has a raw capacity of 240Wh. So, to account for general losses in the charging process we could assume the Jackery has 85% of raw capacity available to actually use for phone charging which comes out at 240Wh @ 85% = 204Wh available (from a full Jackery charge). This would mean that it could be possible to charge your phone > 204Wh ÷ 16.75Wh = 12.17 full phone charges. I must stress that this is a very rough estimate and you could get more or less charges in the real world (I don't have your phone model to test). I hope this helps. All the best, Adrian

    @Michael Cansfield Sorry, been a long week and I forgot to point out the most obvious option, DOH! I covered it in the AliExpress case battery video > kzread.info/dash/bejne/iYSNtqWao7Lapag.html. Something to note, I've only used it a couple of times in my car for short drives to test (due to lockdown) so I don't know how it will work for longer charging periods on the move. Its rated output is 24V x 3.75A = 90W, but it pulls up to 120W when I use it with the case battery and so far, so good. In theory, it should be able to do 120W fine as it would take 12V x 10A = 120W and output 24V x 5A = 120W. It has built-in protection, but I suggest you give it a good test in your car if you want to go this route. I've tried the USB-C PD route and the EB150 MPPT charging circuit doesn't seem to like the 12V LinkOn USB-C PD output (keeps trying to charge, but watts don't stick and back to zero). Ironically, the RAVPower PD power bank in this video seems to work better, but that's not practical on the EB150. I hope this helps. Please shout if you need anything else. Cheers, A

  • @DADvinci

    @Brad Lines Good day Brad. Thanks for your kind feedback and question👍 Microwaves are quite power-hungry devices. They usually get advertised using their cooking power, rather than what they consume at the plug. For example, my microwave has a cooking power rating of 750-800W, but consumes 1200-1250W from the plug. This version of the Jackery only has a 200W inverter, so has no real chance of powering one I'm afraid. You'd need something with a much bigger AC (mains) inverter to provide enough watts for a microwave to run. The other options for van food could be based around boiling water for pasta or other meals that can be made that way. A small induction hob to pan fry or cook in a saucepan, a toaster, a toaster oven, sandwich toaster, etc could also work for a van setup. Ideally, I'd suggest staying under 1000W for whatever you want to use to cook with, as this provides cheaper options (whether all-in-one systems like this or component systems you put together yourself). I hope this helps a bit. Please let me know if you've got any specifics in mind or have any questions. All the best, Adrian

    @Mia Black Hey Mia, it's nice to hear from you. It might be worth testing from low volume and increase gradually (turn up the next notch and leave for 10secs to see watts used). In theory, it should be fine and if the inverter goes above 200W for too long, it will shutdown (part of the protection features). Even if the inverter trips out, give it 30secs and switch the Jackery back on. The extension cable should be fine, I use one on mine. As long as it's not pulling more than 200W in total for too long (causing the inverter to trip). Please shout if you need anything else. Cheers, Adrian

    @SNAKEPIT359 Hey Keith! No problem at all. You can charge either way, but I'd avoid using an inverter to charge from your existing solar setup, if possible, which effectively is DC to AC to DC (using the power brick). If you already have a battery on your solar setup, tapping direct from that (with the right cable) and charging the Jackery is the way I would (and do) do it. The charging input on the 240 supports 12-30V DC, so as long as you can stay within the voltage range it should charge. The most straightforward way would be to connect a panel direct, but using an existing setup would save buying another panel to solar charge the Jackery. So far so good with this version. It's compact and has a decent AC inverter. Did well in this video > kzread.info/dash/bejne/l2xhpsaAabusmM4.html (if you haven't seen it already). I hope this answers your question. @Random fun Good day. Thanks for your kind feedback, much appreciated 😊👍. Just to confirm, you left the AC outlet switched on without anything plugged in? If that's the case, the AC inverter draws power even if nothing is plugged in. You can see this on the display when you switch it on, there will be a number of watts being drawn from the battery. The AC inverter has a metal heat sink which gets warm over time; hence the fans will switch on now and again to keep it cool (even if nothing is plugged in). I'm guessing this is why your 240 got hot as it was still on. I would recommend switching the AC off when not in use as it can draw up to about 10W (on mine) which is effectively draining the battery for nothing. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need anything else. All the best, Adrian

This includes using the 100W panel in the video, which provided over 80W when plugged into another unit so the Jackery was limiting it at 64W. This seems to match the manual specs for the DC input of 19V x 3.42A = 64.98W. The DC input has a voltage range between 12-30V, but the MPPT charging circuit still appears to limit the overall input watts. @UnseenSpirit Good day and thanks for your question. There's such choice in this bracket of the market. To say that one wins out or something is 'better' depends on individual requirements. This is the smallest one I've tested since making the video. I'm impressed with the 200W inverter. I'd like them to produce models with LiFePO4 batteries, as they have a great cycle life, but they are heavier. Jackery are well established and seem to have a decent customer support process, but I've not had to use it yet (which is good, but I can't provide feedback). I guess it comes down to your requirements. Mine is still working perfectly. Anker do a similar capacity model (amzn.to/3RSv9n1 - affiliate link) with LiFePO4 batteries, but it costs more and I can't comment directly as I've not tested it myself. @@DADvinci hi, thank you for the reply. I have looked at lifepo4 batteries since your reply. The Anker that you have linked has reviews; 10 percent at 1 star, which concerns me. I'm a huge fan of Anker but I do read reviews to have an idea on products. There are Bluetti products using lifepo4 batteries that have slightly better reviews. I'll do more research because longelivity is a big bonus and worth a trade for higher costs. £208 quid for the smaller Jackery appealed because that's not too expensive really. However I understand it will have limitations. I shall research a bit more, watch more of your reviews and perhaps wait for black Friday if I don't buy anything on amazon prime deals in the next 2 days.

    @Paul Apps Artist Thanks for the info Paul. It won't surprise you to know that I get asked this question lots. The ALLPOWERS unit I have is the 372Wh version, they decided to downgrade to 288Wh due to the increasing costs of the battery pack. The ALLPOWERS has more inputs and outputs, including two-way USB-C PD. They are both around the 60W mark when it comes to charging from solar (other methods too). The ALLPOWERS comes with an app, but the Bluetooth range is limited. I've not had any issues with the Jackery, unlike the 'characteristics' on the ALLPOWERS (as covered in this playlist > bit.ly/2AbwG5L). For me, the Jackery is less fuss and feels slightly better put together. I do like the Jackery panels as their performance is good, but you wouldn't get to notice that on either the Explorer 240 or ALLPOWERS 288Wh, due to the input port limits. The ALLPOWERS panel is fully foldable so can't be beaten in the being 'compact' department. The Jackery comes with a 200W (400W peak) AC inverter, whereas the 288Wh comes with a 300W (500W peak). The Jackery inverter seemed to perform better in my most recent video though > kzread.info/dash/bejne/l2xhpsaAabusmM4.html. At the end of the day, it's what's most important for you in terms of the features and budget. If you want less fuss and don't need the extra features or ports on the ALLPOWERS unit then the Jackery it is and vice versa. You'll have to go for a 100W panel on both units to get near their port limits of around 60W (on a good sunny day with proper angle to the sun). It's whether you want the larger folding Jackery or the more compact folding ALLPOWERS, along with the price difference that comes with it. I have a 5% discount code for all Jackery products until the end of the month, but nothing for the ALLPOWERS units. I hope this helps. Please shout if you have any questions on the above. Cheers, Adrian

That said there is about a £100 difference right now, as the jackery is on a small offer I like the idea that Jackery is US built and therefore a direct line of possible assistamce. The all powers is Chinese and available from two UK outlets via China. No contact details for any of them. Ill admit to being totally unsure The jackery seems the better unit yet the solar is large, I assume fro the All powers yet both fold in half unless you mean the more foldable £189 version.? I want to charge my phone, pad, run a cooler maybe, run my laptop and do editing. charge my drone and camera batteries on a standard plug or via USB I have some USB but all run off my laptop. @Paul Apps Artist Sorry for the delay Paul, my notifications seem to be playing up at the moment. From what you've said it sounds like you've made your own decision😊. When things are fine, manufacturers support isn't needed. It's when you run into an issue is where the difference is noticed. The support setup appears to be better on the Jackery side, as you've pointed out. If you don't need the compact element of the ALLPOWERS foldable, then the Jackery with its stand and easy setup is a better option. When it comes to capacity (Wh), you need to consider the UK weather and how you will charge on cloudy/rainy days. Let’s face it, the UK weather for the last month (especially where I am) has been more like October! I assume you will be using the setup for while you’re travelling around? Cheers, Adrian

    I bought a jackery 240 about 3 weeks ago and I've noticed something that I may just be overthinking about, and I'm trying to get other owners of the 240's opinion. I've noticed that when watching videos here on KZread that on some units, even like the 500 and 300 when you plug in charger to charge that the light is blue when charging and turns green when done. I've never saw a detailed video on the 240 to see if it acts the same when its done charging. Mine never turns green. It will charge up to 100% and the watts will taper down, slowly going to zero and the charger box even gets cold, from not pushing out anymore power, but the light never turns green, it always stays blue. The unit seems to function fine, and I even left it plugged up for like 12 hours just to make sure, but it never changes to green, it stays blue. Can anyone else who owns a 240 confirm if theirs stays blue or does turn green? Like I say, any other time I wouldn't think anything of it, but it's got me questioning why the 240 stays blue but the other units turn green when done

    @Rich Marshall Good day Rich and thanks for a great question! Jackery is a strong, well-known brand from across the pond, with good customer service from what I can see and good quality components but needs a couple of extra features (does on the latest US models). ALLPOWERS offer value for money with lots of standard features, but some quirks or 'characteristics' on their units. PowerOak has great quality components, including automotive grade cells with longer battery cycle life but this comes at a cost. At the end of the day, it comes down to individual requirements and I guess people tend to stick with the brand that provides what they want. Why they charge almost 1.5 times in uk what they charge there US customers and no USBc

  • @DADvinci

    @DADvinci

    2 жыл бұрын

    @999mrkhaled Good day and thanks for your comment. I'm unable to answer that directly as I review their products and provide discounts when they provide them. From my experience, consumer electronics generally appear to be cheaper in the US, perhaps the larger market contributes to that (economies of scale). US customers also have to pay additional sales tax on top of the price, so it's not always as cheap as first appears (depending on their location). Jackery was founded in the US and haven't officially sold a UK version of their products until the launch in March. This means that the US will get their newer products first as sales potential (well-known brand there) outweighs that in the UK. Their decision to launch in the UK is good for market competition too. There are other options out there and you can find them cheaper elsewhere. For example, the ALLPOWERS 606Wh costs more on Amazon UK, than direct from their AliExpress store. Amazon UK > amzn.to/3jN4nfv (affiliate link) vs AliExpress > bit.ly/3nqeWd9 (affiliate link). Jackery are only on Amazon UK at the moment. As for USB-C, their newer products are starting to get that (e.g. Explorer 300). Until I received viewer feedback, it became clear that not all viewers/customers want all the bells and whistles in terms of ports/features. Many want something that is simple and straightforward to use and comes with good customer support, which is why Jackery has been selling well from what I can see. This is just my opinion and I hope it helps a little. All the best, Adrian

The more powerful the laptop, the quicker it will use the battery power, but you can also keep the laptop battery topped up using this (then unplug for a while). It won't boil a traditional kitchen kettle because the power required is too much, but I'm releasing a video later this week showing a one-cup flask style kettle that does work with this unit (bit.ly/3qBRjOw - affiliate link) .
