She plays the Baroque Lute with so much feeling.
The Baroque lute is a stringed musical instrument that was prominent during the Baroque period, roughly spanning the 17th and early 18th centuries. It is a predecessor of the modern guitar but has a distinct appearance and sound. The Baroque lute typically has multiple strings arranged in courses, which are pairs of strings tuned to the same pitch. It features a deep, rounded body and a long neck with frets. The Baroque lute was widely used in both solo and ensemble settings during its time, producing a rich and intricate sound. It was often played to accompany vocal music, dance, and other forms of entertainment. Skilled lutenists could produce a wide range of expressive effects and ornamentations, making it a versatile and popular instrument in its era.
Absolutely clean playing. Every pluck of the string as smooth as glass.

@adamedmour9704
6 күн бұрын
@@joszebNot really an improvement, just vastly more economical and practical. They used to say it costs ad much to keep a lute in Paris as a horse. Look at it this way, the parlour guitar was to the archlute what a ukulele is to unmanageable electric guitar rig with giant amp and pedal board. The real direct improvement over the lute was the pianoforte, as much as the harpischord, combining the full polyphony of the harpischord with the expressive dynamics of the lute. For additional context the concert classical guitar developed long after the lute had fallen into disuse- filling a more similar niche to the lute than the parlour guitar.
What an absolutely stunning mastery of such a difficult instrument, and with musical depth and clarity. I imagine the Meister Herrn J.S. Bach would smile in approval. Thank you for sharing this.

Just by practicing the piece, you automatically begin memorizing it without even trying. This is a stunning performance. I can't wait for the CD to come out in March (see below the reply to Jingtong Zhu's question). These ferociously difficult pieces are played with such ease, panache and grace that they simply dance- as they were meant to do! I also love the setting, making the artist look like a sitter for one of those Dutch paintings of instrumentalists, with in the background the vista of the library and on the table on the left another instrument lying on a cloth-covered table... Wonderful! Bravo Evangelina!

Agreed. Everything in this video is a work of art. The lighting, the selection and placement of furniture, the recording itself. More than one maestro at work.
Bach is just the best. And people who can play Bach are amazing.

Dear Evangelina, this is absolutely wonderful. You demonstrate the true character of the music of Bach.
Absolutely amazing how she is able to produce such profound music out an instrument that was run over by a truck.
Музыка - это философия, музыка - это воздух!!!!!!; Она необходима! Окрашивает серые будни, дарует наслаждение.......
I have a hard enough time with 4 strings. Completely in awe of the skill on display here, just incredible.
I've never heard a piece like this from Bach before, it sounds more folk like than the pure Baroque approach we tend to hear - what an absolutely astounding artist he was. The playing and the sound of the instrument are also wonderful.

This suite was originally the 3rd partita for solo violin; Bach wrote 3 sonatas and partitas for violin, and they've been arranged for other instruments many times. It's believed Bach himself made the lute transcription.

@@timbruer7318 Ha, now that's a hoot...never seen one of these. Not exactly a grand piano. Bach had a keyboard built called the Lautenwerck; sounds just like a lute. He had 2 of them in his estate after his death, as well as a regular lute. He obviously loved that sound. He rewrote the 5th cello suite for lute; the manuscript is in a museum in Tokyo. Thnx for this.
Absolutely sublime. My favorite lutenist playing the music that you hear when you enter into heaven. Thank you for sharing your precious gifts with us. Your music gives me hope; it gives me sustenance; it gives me joy. 🙏

This music is heavenly. Should be widely celebrated for the sheer genius of both composer and performer.
Beautiful performances like this not only inspire me to play and practice more, but truly bring healing to a weary heart.

No superlative is adequate! Pure magic
There is one quote that kept running across my mind, "These go to 11." Sublime music, sublime artist.

My favorite all time classical Bach piece. Having attempted to play this piece for over 20 years, I still can't on a 6 string, let alone 26 strings, utterly amazing! A spiritual experience just watching/listening to this, bravo, well done! BTW, who has the gall to put a thumbs down?!? Let me at em!

I am just floored by her skill and the beautiful sound of that lute. 26 strings...nylon frets...a formidable instrument to master and play cleanly. Amazing.

Just to be persnickety :-) - that's actually 24 string (two first courses are single), and the frets are likely to be gut, not nylon; I doubt nylon would be easy to tie on at neatly as that. Frets on a lute are easily replaceable, simply being tied on as a loop of string.
Un dono di pochi come Evangelina capaci di portare alla superficie la poesia della musica.

すごい! 1曲目が終わったとき、パソコンの前で自然と拍手をしていました。素晴らしい演奏です(*^_^*) I am glad to listen to your music!
4:31 "thank GOD I made it through all THAT!" Those forearms have to be on fire at that point. Pure 16th notes for 4.5 minutes.
I have no words to say how much I like her playing. She does not hide herself or the music. She is a character and plays with character. RIght there.
She has a lyrical style that captivates. Beautiful sounding instrument.
