Thank you! Your comment is very interesting, some Debussy's piece sound really well on the harp and I will try to play some other pieces :)
Try to imagine the whole process from start to finish of what it took to get us to this point. Somebody , many centuries ago conceived & created the Harp. It then must have taken years to work out the harmony of the strings in order to make it sound so wonderful . We then learned to write & read music, which was phenomenal. After all of this, we needed an inspired composer such as Debussy to produce this masterpiece. Finally, we have a beautiful player who has practiced for years to bring this incredibly emotional & heavenly sound to our ears. Incredible..💚
@Julia_Coelho_Music
4 жыл бұрын
Why see it as a "progress-process" to culminate in something beautiful? There is nothing wrong with Medieval and Renaissance harps, they are beautiful per se - sound wise included - and not merely "a step into something greater". It's not about being better or worse.... It's simply different.
@christophebonhoefferofbelg9846
4 жыл бұрын
xJCOELHOx ...I see it as a “progress process” because it’s a matter of fact. No musical instrument ever created could play by itself. People had to learn & get better ( progress). Music needed to be written & then played by the musicians (process). At no point did I say there was anything wrong with Medieval & Renaissance harps. I speak in general about how everything comes together to create this lovely piece.

@@audreyh5981 I tune basically every time I sit down with the harp, which is usually more than once a day. On humid days (and we have lots of very humid days) I'll need to tune in the middle of practice too because humidity changes throughout the day. For performances you have to be even more dilligent. The main issues are the gut strings, as I'm sure you know. But also I have an older harp that apparently must have an issue with wood warping with humidity, because the bass wires and even the nylon can do funky things.

Chapter XXXI - Agency of Evil Spirits The connection of the visible with the invisible world, the ministration of angels of God, and the agency of evil spirits, are plainly revealed in the Scriptures, and inseparably interwoven with human history. There is a growing tendency to disbelief in the existence of evil spirits, while the holy angels that “minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation,” [Hebrews 1:14.] are regarded by many as the spirits of the dead. But the Scriptures not only teach the existence of angels, both good and evil, but present unquestionable proof that these are not the disembodied spirits of dead men. {GC88 511.1}. . . Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 9:6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any [thing] that is done under the sun. 9:7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.

The two arabasques are written mainly in a diatonic way, and their rather linear writing makes their transcription to the harp easy. @@dvntpxnic. You are so welcome! What is that saying, "don't let the buggers get you down". It seems my life too has had many a dark time. What kept me going, and still does, apart from the fact that I am reeeeally stubborn, is that all of life has a reason and purpose. I tell myself something good will come out of this, whether it's understanding of myself or that my experience will help someone else when I come out the other side. Nothing we ever do in our lives is a waste, not one thing. If our experiences nearly destroy us, what we learn from it will surely save someone else's life, purely because we came through and helping someone through similar is what it is about. Using our experience may take years but it is never a waste. I will tell you something, if we were not strong enough, we wouldn't have had that experience. And how we come out the other side may seem obvious to us but not to others, so this life is a school in an unstructured kind of a way. Knowledge cannot always be read from a book. I really hope this helps you, because believe me, someday the rewards you will receive will be awesome. Just know that a kind word or action, doesn't have to be a big thing, maybe just a smile, will light up someone else's world. I understand that the first thought is why me? Instead say, ok, bring it on, I will find a way through. Whatever is happening to you it may be your job to succeed so that you can pass on that knowledge to someone who may not have your mindset, not be as strong as you. Just think then whenever that occurs in your life, day, weeks or even years later, how great you will feel that you had that experience and have saved another's life. Love and Light to you.

I can't believe what a talent she is, love that millions liked this (gives hope). One of my favourite pieces of music but i'm so used to hearing it on piano, just a real pleasure to hear it played by harp, has a real tenderness that's different to piano
I can't make up my mind. Was the harp made for Debussy or was Debussy made for the harp?

I don't exactly know what to say. One of the most beautiful pieces of music that I have ever heard. Makes me feel like I am in heaven. My dad passed away about 2 weeks ago from Alzheimer's/dementia and Parkinson's disease. Listening to this makes me feel sad but in a beautiful way, if that makes any sense.

My father passed away 10 years ago, Arabesque was one of the pieces that were played during the Ceremony, I was familiar with Arabesque but not until then had I really noticed it! It was a Classical piece I had heard before but is now something more special! it's beautiful!!!

This reminded me of someone dear, but also out of reach, now. Hopefully Debussy isn't forever ruined for me. This performance could bring me to tears it's so lovely and complete!
Ok, now I'm addicted to this style of music, this melody. It's like a concert that noble people of centuries past paid to hear. Wowww
I will never grow tired of listening, your Deux Arabesques are ethereal. Debussy and you share the same heart.

Then if he claims to be a fine connoisseur of Debussy - Deux Arabesques, he should compare with the piano versions: he would see that it is very similar in lenght and variation. In fact she plays it more slowly than it is played on piano. So how could the're be MORE SILENCE and LET THE SOUND SPRED more than that ?? Here's an example: Debussy - Arabesque No.1 and No.2 kzread.info/dash/bejne/a3qgx5R8gJvNgpM.html I'm not a harpist neither but I'm a music lover myself

My heart strings were plucked

@sydneycarton1000 Bach came from a different era and his views are irrelevant here. The purpose of KZread comments on music videos is to talk about the music. Not to inject your religious views. It's puerile and dull. Maybe you are the myopia sufferer if you can't see that what you believe in is pure fantasy?
@LAnonHubbard

@sydneycarton1000 what words from my previous comment did you need to lookup in a dictionary? LOL!! They were normal, everyday words so I now see the level of education of who I'm dealing with, and the penny drops why you believe in fairies. Seriously though, were you indoctrinated as a child or did you enter into these beliefs as an adult? Adults can still fall for cults and religions but have usually grown a skill to evaluate what they're being told. I have sympathy for you if your parents made you think this stuff. Time to break free perhaps?
The grace and poise of the harpist is amazing, it is like she is part of the music.

Rap lyrics (at least to me) are meaningless, a bunch of people talking fast with crummy beats in the background. Classical has everything, so beautiful, indescribable, every composer makes something different. Some people have the gift of listening to, and enjoying this music. I wish people would appreciate it more. Classical music is one of the only ways I enjoy the world, I can’t explain the passion I feel for this music, the piano, and the harp.

@@controversy4987 I don't know if you've ever truly lent your ear to what some people have to say, then. You don't have to listen to rap, but don't criticize it until you've given all genres an honest listen (e.i. gangster rap would be much different than say someone like No Name). Music has always been about struggle, and the artists in hip hop have been through some of the greatest hardships of our time. Artists in the classical period had to be rebellious in order to discontinue the baroque period, too. Every generation will always hate the art that comes from the next.

It is an indisputable fact that the two arabesques, being mainly diatonic and partly based on scales and arpeggios, perfectly fit with the harp.
