J Krishnamurti | Introduction to his Philosophy and Teachings

Support me on Patreon: / justlookatit
Jiddu Krishnamurti was a philosopher, speaker and writer. In his early life, he was groomed to be the new World Teacher, but later rejected this mantle and withdrew from the Theosophy organization behind it. His interests included psychological revolution, the nature of mind, meditation, inquiry, human relationships, and bringing about radical change in society. He stressed the need for a revolution in the psyche of every human being and emphasised that such revolution cannot be brought about by any external entity, be it religious, political, or social.

These are so well made. To be honest, at first, I heard the accent and because my mind was feeling tired didn't want to watch it because sometimes it can be more difficult to follow something when you also have to decipher an accent, so I closed it. Later I refreshed the page of my subscriptions and saw it there, then felt as though the universe was telling me to watch it because I did not recall subscribing, but was still feeling lazy, then I looked at the name of your channel and that finally kicked me into gear and I said fine I will, and I'm glad I did, that was so interesting and well presented and in the end your accent was not an issue at all. Sorry if this is offensive to you, I don't mean to be, I imagine when you hear a foreign speaker talking in your native language it sometimes requires a little more work to understand them, hope you can relate to what I'm saying through that and not think I'm rude. I know why I subscribed in the past, really high quality content, I would like to support your work but for the moment can not, I will remember to join your Patreon soon though. FYI, I followed the link to see the tiers you offer and it took me to a 404 page so think your link is broken. While I can't afford a fiat subscription pledge at the moment due to being at my limit for Patreon pledges, also generally being fairly broke at the moment, but I can afford to send a couple bucks in crypto as way of saying thanks with a small tip, do you use any cryptos? Preferably something with minimal transaction fees since I can only afford to send a little. Stellar (XLM) would be my preference, if you don't use crypto don't worry I do intend to join your patreon when my financial state improves, or I might drop one of my old pledges that is now popular and doesn't need my small pledge of a few dollars a month anymore when I'm more awake and can pick one. For now though I'll just say thank you.

@@jeffforsythe9514 No need to be defensive, friend, I didn't mean to offend you. Not the base cultural usage of the word enlightenment, what it means is a lighter way of living. You may think of it as a spectrum; a heavy way of living would be laden in suffering, and life is travail; a lighter way of living would be one of balance and harmony, presence, quiescence, and a oneness with the movement and flow of living in the moment. The middle way; the curve between the yin and the yang where we find the eternal present. Religion is rooted in tradition, it is the observing of a tradition. Falun Gong is a pluralistic philosphy and practice in that it incorporates many elements from various religions, physical practices and traditions, wisdom traditions and philosophies. They are not new ideas, Falun Gong uses them dogmatically too. Telling people what to believe, whether it be supporting Trump's campaign and running advertising for him, or that evolution is not real, or promoting fear by concocting conspiracy theories. Just look at Epoch media group, run by Falun Gong. Reports have shown that people have died from a variety of known-curable diseases... specifically because Falun Gong fear mongering conspiracies scared them into paranoia. And no, not just covid vaccines, but that too. Doesn't sound very freeing if they're literally telling you what to believe. A very good introduction and well made. So JK is a radical solipsist. The truth is only within each one of us and is unreachable. With that, he sums up well the Zeitgeist of the current age. He also spiritually bankrupted the Theosophy movement almost before it had begun. "There are no movements to follow, there are no gurus in the truth." Such nihilism, such expressions of hopelessness. Krishnamurti is the true anthroposophist and Rudolf Steiner with his foundations in the Christian gospels the true theosophist or better, theosopher.

I’m somewhat skeptical of this opposition to authorities for the purposes of learning. I’m sympathetic towards his opposition to this idea that people can sort give up on thinking and let somebody else do the thinking for them. I’m reminded of some kids being forced to remember the whole Quran in Arabic while not knowing what any of the words mean, or how Christian congregations sing a song in Latin while also having no idea what the words mean, only to have some Imam or priest explain the meaning to them. However, institutions of knowledge can only function if people are willing to engage in the act of delegating the act of thinking on specific topics to these institutions. I don’t study medicine, biology, or cancer, but I, functionally, believe that cigarettes cause lung cancer, because the institutions I’ve delegated the act of investigating lung cancer tell me so. This is ultimately about trust and how we should go about forming trust, and I don’t think he gives a good answer to that. I’m assuming he’s not trying to convince everyone to investigate absolute everything on their own, and to not just trust anyone on anything. I’m not saying trust should be some ironclad unassailable grip, but IMO some healthy mix of occasional skepticism if justified IYO coupled with earned appreciation is usually how good trust is formed. I’m using vague language here on purpose because the above is more of a guideline that should be coupled with analysis of individual cases.

@WXRTH - I’m not sure what you mean by unnecessary, but if you mean the act of determining who to trust is unnecessary, then I’m not sure how you collaborate with anyone. I haven’t studied toxicology or chemistry or biology at a high level, but I trust the experts who tell me that cyanide is fatal for me to consume. I have the freedom to investigate the validity of claims of cyanide being poisonous, but I can’t rely on investigation for everything. At some point, in order to function in the world you have to take some people at their word. This is always a risk. There’s no absolute security in terms of having correct answers. This risk IMO is an acceptable cost as long as we make efforts to strategically minimize it in situations that we prioritize the most.

He wasn't fully against authority. He was against authority when it came to reading the book of mankind, we are all humans, we don't need someone else to teach us about ourselves. He wasn't against learning with others, together, through the mirror of relationship and observation. When it comes to understanding ourselves, we are our own teachers and students. But he accepted the authority of a doctor, or an engineer, etc. in their respective fields. He was humble about the "I don't know" when it comes to technical knowledge but he was not the kind of person to believe whatever science is currently saying, but he trusted others to take care of his needs. We live in a society, no man/woman stands alone, we need some level of trust in each other's knowledge as we are not all-knowing. We should also be aware that knowledge is limited and personal interest plays a massive role in our society. Imo he was a healthy sceptic in regards to technical matters.

You misunderstand. Don’t overcomplicate it. His whole point is that you cannot trust authority at all when it comes to things about your own psychological nature. That can only come from yourself. Obviously a doctor knows better than I about what medicine I need to survive, and an engineer knows how to build a house better than I do. His whole point is that psychologically you won’t get anywhere towards truth if you approach it through authority. Simple as that.

Well pre-sectarianism buddhism (Nikkayas) are the same as vedanta philosophy. JK did what Siddharta Guatama did. He dismissed the Vedas, due to the corruption of the teachings over the period of time. Take a glance at JK's terms: Nirvikalpa Samadhi (Vedanta) - Choiceless Awareness (JK) Vedanta/End of Knowledge (Vedanta) - Freedom from the known (JK) and so on...

He eventually overcame! We too, shall! Theosophists are prisoners of a method, of the accumulation of knowledge. Please find out truth b y yourself. I went twice in their head office, met them yearly in organic fairs, but one day, I got it: their church is only a mental structure and void of love. Some are sincere, but lost.

Again cheap....Vedanta has nothing that jiddu Krishnamurti has said. Vedanta is so poor even to call it a philosophy. And again according to jiddu Krishnamurti itself, u r so conditioned that again u bring back tradition .Because u r a Hindu. As muslim, jain, Christian and even jews etc says, whatever jiddu has said is already in Thier book. But none of the book said so. Because truth is a pathless land....stop propaganda in the name of jiddu....
