J. Krishnamurti - Brockwood Park 1976 - The Transformation of Man - 7 - Life is sacred

J. Krishnamurti - Brockwood Park 1976 - Small Group Discussion 7 - Life is sacred
Summary:
Do you know what it means to love somebody?
Without compassion, human beings are destroying themselves.
Is compassion the result of the ending of sorrow, the universal sorrow?
Have an insight into sorrow, not the sorrow of thought but the universal sorrow of mankind; and out of that insight is compassion. Is compassion the end of all life, end of all death?
A real, penetrating meditation brings insight.

Armenias Thunk If you think he’s just about parlour tricks...then perhaps you should come back to listen to his talks after a few years of sincere self observation. There are some deeply profound concepts he talks about...perhaps read some Ouspenski or the Maurice Nicolls Commentaries on the teachings of Gurdjieff. Sometime a different perspective and description of similar concepts may help. I listened to some of these videos years ago, and didn’t grasp the enormity of his words, or the fundamental truths, because I simply wasn’t at a level of understanding to recognise it. Don’t write him off...come back in a few years...then he’ll blow your mind and you’ll be overwhelmed with stunning eureka moments. 🙂👍🏻

@Armenias Thunk Fifteen years ago I have listened to him daily for a whole year. Only after several months I was able to see a profound depth of his thoughts. He is guiding you to a self discovery. Others wish you to listen to their words, follow them and accept their answers. I cannot name anyone else, who walks with you and do not force on you any answers, but helps you to find out it on your own. This is why JK cannot be compared to anyone else. You should not listen to JK's words. His words should become a part of you, they have to come not to your mind, but to your soul.

Very exceptional to have people enjoying time together, without conflict, trying to reach an agreement on ideas that no-one can claim special knowledge of, without making any scholarly references, famous name-dropping, gossip or affirmation of the "latest thing". I wonder why it is so difficult for people to do this? There is a tacit understanding here, that although all are well-read, interjecting a reference to a "famous thinker" would dampen the true conversation. May we all communicate in this spirit and find like minds about us.

This is probably Krishnamurthi's most profound discussion that you will ever get to hear. He is talking of something that is beyond verbal measurement, which cannot be put into words. The word is not the thing. The description is not the described. It is much beyond the capacity of thought to grasp it and you will find him constantly reminding the two of them about it. It is the immensity and the intensity of "K" and a tribute to his devine intellectual capacity that he has been able to capture it in words. We can all witness how difficult he finds it to put it into words because it is beyond time and beyond thought. Words and description are product of thought which are bound in time. The sacred is timeless, eternal, that which has no begining and no ending, that which cannot be described, that which cannot be destroyed too and yet be the source of everything. It is also constantly renewing itself. It is vibrant and dynamic. It is not static and therefore no path can lead to it. It is a pathless land. It is the source from which everything emerges and finally returns to the same Ground. In one of his talks he calls it the "GROUND" of creation. The beauty of the talk is that he his completely non-existent and therefore constantly says "the three of you". This only implies that at that moment "K" does not operate, it is the 'TRUTH" that operated from his voice. He is just the medium born out of "K"s nothingness. He was once asked, "Who are you?", and he instantly replied," I am Nobody". His reply has great significance for humanity to ponder. He is the most perfect Soul that has ever walked this planet. Blessed were those who could witness him live and share and drink along with him the nectar from the fountain of wisdom. This discussion is the most sacred script that one will ever get to hear. Essentially "K" is a religious teacher of the highest distinction and he begins where thought ends. Period.

Whilst I think you captured the matter really well with that comment, I don't think these insights are religious at all, they're logical. We cannot make sense of life by thinking in terms of time, beginning and ending only ever exist for the individual, birth and death, but life constantly renewing itself, that energy which makes it possible must have always been there, it's timeless. We have to presuppose some timeless creative energy, other people have called it élan vital. It's true that words cannot describe things adequately, nor can they bring about compassion, but through negation and indication there still is some verbal accessability, otherwise the entire discussion wouldn't make any sense.

It’s easy to communicate things that are common place.... JKs deep insight is not commonplace making it tremendously difficult to reach those who are not “serious”. Can you see the commitment that JK puts into reaching others.... great effort.... tremendous!! As a listener it requires real listening, commitment and patience to capture his gifts.

Agreed. Krishnamurti is one of the few, or probably the only contributor to public knowledge that strategically paused to ask the other participants how they received the insight of the subject matters discussed and also asked what would the viewers/listeners likely get from it. Most people giving opinions/information on KZread are generally only addressing their own particular views or those of the community values to which they are beholden and therefore of not much worth to outsiders.

In a way, since every religion says God cannot be seen or felt or heard, God does not exist for us, and K is only agreeing. It is people who have taken the wisdom of one and then corrupted it, not that we must believe one or another. Listening to this talk (after slowly approaching JK over a couple of weaks, listening frequently, and with an open and yet critical - doubting, investigating -mind), I found some deeprouted joy which I had not touched since my adulthood ( when I found deepest joy in trying to discover meaning in live, in similarly open dialogs). Grateful. I believe this joy is an invitation to explore deeper into its source, which is "that", not different, not separated from the compassion JK talks about.

Its a shame because in this talk the two men didn't seem to follow. Thus Krishnamurti had to keep going back in order to walk them through again, but ultimately they never got past it because the two men kept trying to understand by playing with the technicalities of words. Then, after K still told them no they had not, they simply gave up and started agreeing until the end of their talk. Its rather disturbing.

Sacredness/Serenity/Lucidity are ever-flowing in a grain of sand, a blade of grass, a drop of dawn dew, a rainbow, the canopy of star-lit skies, the flickering of sunlight through the trees. Only humans interpret all phenomena, all situations from this "I-ness" , its memories, its conditioning instead of actually living, moving, in the "Such-ness", the absolute, timelessly. True actions have no choice, no thoughts but indivisibility of humanity in one vessel in exact situations. Born, live, learn, love and die. Thanks K and friends.

The universal(deeper) sorrow is the understanding of true meaning of life. The moment of life in the concept of time. The deeper sorrow is the perjected emotion , at the moment the knowledge of " Life " is revealed.

This series of videos has been available to the public since the 1980s in VHS format, then again online from the early 2000s.

i am a poor man have been buying his books since 1980, whatever i could afford once a year. But this talk is very significant i wish i could have afforded the VHS now that i know this significance. It is helpful that now i can go to k online and find more of his work that i could't afford before.Maybe the trustees should look into providing a low cost subscription were people like me could look for what is best suited for them in the teachings.

This is VERY significant. If one understands and have insight into the whole talk, then it’s over. But our conditioned mind has a hard time doing that. We understand intellectually for the most part.

The line drawn by the responsibility that life demands gives light to the contrast implied by comparing biological necessity and psychological fragmentation and it also shows that without love there is conflict that would be behind action so that one is required to be one's whole self in relationships with others which is free of the limitations of the self

I’ve been observing my thoughts not everyday but sometimes 2 days for 3 hours and the mind goes to that state where everything is undesirably beautiful and There is feeling of love that goes along with the silence for next couple of days( the thoughts are still there but the mind is quite and aware of 1000 things that happening around and when you see a bird or you look at someone the thoughts deasapers only for a sec or less but it’s enough to feel love) and after couple of days that state fades slowly and it comes back to „me“ state. It’s been 2 years, now The observation of the thoughts is part of any daily activity and that state of ecstasy is there, but it didn’t go beyond that. When the observation is happing for 3 hours it goes to the point when there are silent gaps between thoughts becomes noticeable but the body stops inhaling until the thought forces to inhale several times the end up having serious problems with my stomach

Looking at the comments here it's beautiful - but also surprising - how many people happily accept that they don't exist (as egos). The same happens around many neo-advaita teachers. Hopefully the good old ego doesn't come back at the backdoor: I (!!) understand this. Also the tendency to make Krishnamurti "the greatest" teacher, buddha etc. ever in some comments could also mean: since I(!!) am following the greatest teacher ever then I(!!) must be a great and extremely insightful person. Just saying........😉

One cannot be in SORROW and know COMPASSION. Sorrow must end to experience compassion. This includes universal sorrow. Now, that is the meaning of death.
