I read that the concept behind the video is that IU’s character is deaf and Taehyung’s character is blind in one eye and the cubes are getting rid of anyone with a disability. When they find the magic camera they forget that they are running away because they see how their life would be if they were “normal” and become lost in the happiness of the moment.

I interpret the MV so that the cubes are Haters and IU and V run away from them with their scars. Then they find the magic camera and they see them how they want to be perfect without scars in the idol industry. They get famose, have fun, sing on the stage, belive that it is reality. Until the Haters appear again. They try to defend themselves but it is hopeless. The Haters get more angry and lift them away from the camera/idol business/fame. And they life ends like the idols and actors in the last years. Only the clothes remain.

I've watched so many reactions of this mv and a stray comment made me look at it completely different. The apocalyptic world is the real world, society eating up idols, consuming their lives. She is deaf to the voices of her critics, (or mute: unable to speak out against this consumption) and he's blind to everyone but her. Though they desperately cling to one another they can't live in peace. They look through the lens of their video recorder and see only themselves and their love in this world. The mocking people trying to disrupt them and tear them apart are the critics, and in some cases, extreme fans. In the end, they're unable to stay in this idealized version of their life, their love persecuted and their life is once again consumed by the expectations of fans on idols.

and someone said that before iu cover her hand to taehyung's one blind eye, she squeezes his shoulder's three times. three squeezes is a common non-verbal sign to convey love to your loved ones. "Three squeezes means “I LOVE YOU” 😭

IU knows sign language from My Mister. And on Hyori’s Bed and Breakfast she helped a deaf guest.

I think V is def and blind in the one eye in this MV and why IU is using sign language. If you watch this again you will notice IU reacts to the sounds and turns and pulls V along. This is such a beautiful testament to loving someone until the end. If only we can find a love like this. They both did a beautiful job telling this story of their love. Bravo 👏👏👏👏👏👏

This has by far been the most amazing MV I have seen ever. period. The acting is phenomenal, IU's voice and features in this MV is phenomenal, V was absolutely phenomenal, like what isn't?! Nearly cried my eyes out like holy fuck never knew an MV can give so much emotions like a 3 season K-Drama. IU covering V's not blind eye so he can be comforted and safe in the arms of only IU is best attention to detail and just magnificent.

As for this MV, some ARMYs guessed that she is deaf (explaining her using Korean sign language) and that Very had an accident that cause his right eye to be blind. They are living in a world where if one is not the 'perfect standards', they are 'taken out of the world'. All of us wonder is a making of doc video will be released on this MV to see how it was created.....PRAY that there is one.😊

I loveee this MV and their acting and the song! I've been listening and watching this on repeat since its release. The cube reminds me of a character in the netflix show, The Umbrella Academy and the theme of the series is also about an apocalypse.

Yes, It does look like either an alien invasion and they are some of the last people left, or they in the future where people that are different are hunted down. Tae is blind in one eye and IU is deaf and mute hence different or "flawed". They both look like they have either been fighting for a while or where maybe held captive or were experimented on and they were able break free. The camera lets them see what used to be or past memories or it shows them what they want to see in which case I think it was left there by the cube things to distract people and make it easier to catch them hence the pile of clothes close to were they find the camera. The maze like halls they go through and the blocked "exit" seem to herd them back to that specific place were the clothes pile is.

I need V & IU to be in one frame of a romantic movie...yeessss can't wait.

Such a beautiful and emotional video featuring amazing acting and vocals that makes the experience so personal. I really do hope that Tae & IU do other projects together both film and music as they have great chemistry and when he was on her show their voices also blended so well. Also at the end it was pointed out by someone that he can hear what is coming but she can't, while she can see what is coming but she covers his good eye so he can't. Both cry at the same moment though and from the same left eye. Also the right side of his face seems to have burn scars so maybe he had encountered a cube before but got away at the last minute. This cube was relentless in its pursuit and even seemed to change size so it could come into the building. Earlier when it was flying overhead you could tell no way it could fit inside those hallways. I also noticed the cube waits for them to stop fighting and accept their fate. If you notice there are no other people so obviously no person is able to meet the criteria this cube holds that would allow someone to survive. The camcorder that kept showing a better reality, was giving us the viewer a happier version of the events. They both rise in the air together, their bodies still solid, while the reality is that they have been turned to ash. At the top of the camcorder right before it turns off you see ash particles in the air. I also loved how the clothes landed together on the pile. Again all of this symbolizing that even though they seemingly lost to the cube, it couldn't destroy their love for each other. They stayed together in life and death, so indeed their love did win. I can't get enough of this MV, the acting is Oscar level and combined with the award worthy vocals and lyrics it's both heartbreaking but also heartwarming that at least they went together.
