A little bit of more background on IU since the internet is somehow lacking videos of her: Her family originally was upper middle class when she was really young but her family lost most of it. They wanted to secure their son a great future by studying abroad so her parents and little brother moved overseas and IU stayed behind with her Grandmother and Uncle because she wanted to pursue her dream of being a singer. They were very poor and IU was regularly emotionally and verbally abused by her Uncle. She grew up fast. She worked herself to the bone and struggled a long time but she's grown so beautifully. She's a pillar of strength and dedication to craft.

There's a some misinformation in this comment. While it is true that she lived with her grandma along with her brother and 2 cousins when she was young. Her brother studied abroad because he did not want any negative impression to IU if he ends up making mistakes and which is why her family faces are not shown that much for privacy. Her parents stayed in Korea and paid their debts, these are all in an interview she did before but many accounts made videos that exaggerated and add on the facts. She had it rough but she worked hard to get where she is now.

She's going to tour the US this summer, so a great time to discover IU. Personally, I've been waiting for this moment for 10 years to see her solo concert in the US. If you have an opportunity to attend, I'd highly recommend.

You would probably love her drama Hotel De Luna. She plays an immortal who runs a hotel for the dead who can't move on to the afterlife until they have resolved their unfinished business. It's really fun.

"Uaena" is basically pronounced "you en ah", like you're saying "you and I" except you only pronounce half of the "I". Also side note: The L is silent in the Korean name "Lee". I think the reason is because of weird back and forth translation issues of when Europeans first came into contact with east Asians, but basically "Lee" as a Korean name is pronounced "ee" 99% of the time (I think the same doesn't go for the Chinese name Lee/Li, but not sure. It's all confusing haha) And yeah I think for the most part her personality is pretty low-key, but she's definitely funny and sweet. She has this alter ego "Lee Jidong" she plays in videos on her channel who is an employee (with dubious qualifications) at IU's company, EDAM entertainment, who started as an intern but somehow does keep getting promoted 😂 This "employee" has also "spoiled" things about upcoming IU projects before; and has done a reaction to IU's new album; has been in charge of marketing strategies; and has even had a debate with IU herself about what character should be chosen as a mascot (obviously filmed with IU and Jidong sitting on separate couches because they're both IU haha). She's just overall really really charming, but you already knew that 😅

oh yeah! it is such a complex language to me, I mean so is Chinese. it just seems really complex haha! ok, I need to get to know Lee Jidong now, this sounds awesome! that is pretty hilariously awesome, its a pretty smart and fun way to do it. its true, you learn that rather quick about her too

@@Killdeer25 I've been learning Korean for a while now and it's not easy but at least learning the symbols was actually easier than it seems, and definitely much easier than Japanese or Chinese. Because Korean has letters in the same way we do, and each character is a syllable that's actually composed of 2-4 letters; while Japanese has unique characters for every possible syllable; and Chinese has unique characters for every possible word 😅 Chinese seems way more daunting haha
