A RTC Diesel charter from Sulmona to Castel di Sangro 77km or 48 miles and return with FS Breda Class D.343 Bo-Bo 343.2004 (1967) plus a visit to Sulmona Depot on 13-06-2003.
It should have been a steam charter but Gr.740 2-8-0 740 160 had developed a hotbox and the other available engine 740 144 was banned because it had started a lineside fire earlier in the tour.
The scenic nature of the line made up for it a bit, from Sulmona the line climbs 863 metres 2831 feet to Rivisondoli Pescocostanza and then drops 463 metres or 1519 feet to Castel di Sangro.
The line closed to regular service trains in December 2011 but later reopened only for tourist trains.
