Italian Chef tries the BEST Street Market food in Korea!!

Комедия

After trying some of the fanciest, most expensive food in Korea, we took Mr. Z to try some of the best, most authentic street market food Korea has to offer. $5 hand cut noodles prepared down a local alley by a Korean Grandma.

What I love about this series is that as a chef, Mr. Z isn't just intrigued by the flavors. He's also carefully tasting and deciphering the different ingredients and combinations that create the flavors. The individual instruments in the orchestra if you will. But at the same time he's also processing what other combinations he can create with the ingredients and flavors. This is why he insisted on trying the ginseng extract and Achim Hetsal at the bar (Where Josh surprised him with a trip to Korea), suggested the caviar with the Gimbap (last episode), and added the kimchi and bossam to the broth. It's also why he tried the extremely salty shrimp after Josh told him how salty it was. He needs to taste it to understand the overall flavor and flavor possibilities. It's a part of who he is a chef and what I am most looking forward to with this continued series.

Yeah I noticed that as well. Like he is checking each item in the food kind of like he is thinking of ways to combine things to make his own dish. Can't wait to see him combining things to make a unique fusion meal.

there's also a similar thing in Singapore (might be a southern china seaside thing) called "mee hoon kueh" it's almost the same thing as the Korean versions. Tho most stalls these days have shortcut it with the rolling machines before tearing it... TT ... But they have also fusioned it with some spice these days, spicy mee hoon kueh (Dry) where they basically dump chili and spice it up (there's one stall where the spice is so hot people request for 50% and it's still quite hot (IMO it's still like 3 menu chili level if the 100% is 5 ) )

What I like about Mr. Z as an experienced and well-regarded private chef is that he doesn’t over exaggerate when it comes to Korean cuisine. He’s complimentary when it deserves it and says less when it’s really not to his liking. I think the past guests that Josh has taken to Korea have very little experience with truly good food and think everything is AMAZING and SO GOOD. His opinion is a little more on par with western Asian friends I have who are much more exposed to eastern Asian cuisine.

I appreciate Chef Z's honest reaction to the food he's introduced to and trying all the different combinations. He's there behind the camera, I think? There was a moment in one of the episodes where they're feeding the team and iirc Ollie was operating one of the cameras. I do feel he kinda takes more of a backseat in KE vids vs Jolly ones but I doubt they left behind the literal reason they met Mr Z in the first place 😂

@@jereisse020oh man I think you guys are right! I went back to the first two videos and he does seem to be missing here 😢 I must have mixed it up with one of their other guest-in-Korea series that I was rewatching. Wonder where The Ols was at this time -- there must have been a big reason to miss a Mr Z series, given how much he and Z get on.

It has been my experience (my ex-husband is Italian) that Italians aren't particularly forthcoming with compliments, something has to be really quite good to elicit a response, 'no news is good news' sort of thing. So to see Mr. Z to animated and truly enjoying what he is eating makes me want to try Korean cuisine even more! To impress an Italian like that, that is some seriously good food!
