Completely agree...Dembele was brought by Barcelona as a knee jerk reaction to losing Neymar to PSG for a crazy sum of money from Dortmund. The truth is he's probably spent as much time on the treatment table as he has on the pitch, and having seen him play ( when he's not injured ) there's not much to his game apart from basic speed, infact he'd been better off been a sprinter for France than been a pro footballer.

Seems a lot of people don’t understand basic business…the Dembele situation is incredibly simple to understand, I’m really surprised at the lack of understanding when the situation is so so simple. He has a mutually binding contract with a company (Barca) , that the company themselves offered to him. They are now asking him to cancel said contract and accept a new contract with less wages,,,Dembele isn’t obliged to do so, he can tell the company his wage demands and if they can’t offer that to him, he can play out the remainder of his contract and leave on a free. I see a lot of people thinking emotionally and talking about his performances and injuries…which has nothing to do with the basic fact that Barca offered a contract to Dembele…they made a terrible mistake , and are trying to now take away blame for their own incompetence and blaming a player for not signing a new contract and cancelling the one they already gave him…that’s a Barca problem, not a Dembele problem, the Spanish PFA have already come out to defend Dembele’s stance, contracts are there for a reason, this is not a third rate country, this is the developed world and in business, you have to honour contracts…has nothing to do with his performance and injuries, or how much he earns…people need to start thinking like men and business wise, rather than thinking emotionally and indulging in envy politics

They have to pay him regardless he plays or not and Barca losing left and right on top players getting injured again and again whilst their most pacey Winger is enjoying an extended vacation.

I've watched every dembele game for Barca the last 3 years, he's the kind of player that gets a manager sacked. Can score a worldie one game and can't pass the ball 5 yards the next game. Not only that he has discipline issues being late to training and he's hardly played at all due to injuries check the stats. With this context and the fact that barcelona have backed him through all his issues(mostly), he's taking the piss by not accepting a paycut. However, that's his choice and I don't have a problem with that, the thing that's annoys me is his PR Instagram post saying he's giving 100% blah blah to seem like the victim, he can honestly get lost. From a non Barca fan.

Yes but the issue is a team is telling players to take a pay cut but are ponying up to give the money to Haaland and just signed Ferran, and talking about other signings . So I get some players being like no . So let him finish his contract . Also wanted to add he hasn’t been consistent he had a really good break out spell then injuries he just regressed then inconsistent. I think staying getting it together and consistent and staying fit he could if he believes in himself try to be a club legend because of the times Barca are in . I think he needs to stay

@@franchizetheartist Dembele is on like 15m a year, in context ferran earns 12m over 5 years. You can't compare them in terms of salary. You also can't compare haaland to dembele in terms of value, which team wouldn't break the bank for a generational talent like haaland. Barcelona aren't gonna stop signing players altogether, you can't use that argument because regardless of it dembele is disgustingly overpaid for what he offers and him not taking a pay cut/ apparently wanting a pay rise is hillarious to me. Btw Barca have done a good job so far of reducing their wage bill. Also I think he's probably wasted his potential and if you've read the reports of him staying up late, not eating properly not recovering properly etc then he really hasn't helped himself avoid injuries and gain consistency. It's all his own fault and I don't think he has a future at Barca.

I’m a Barca fan so I’ll let you know what’s going on, since dembele has joined Barca he has has a multitude of injuries including two season ending injuries. He’s only been fit for about 60% of his time at barca and when he has played he’s been average. He is currently earning 15 million a year now his wage demands are around 43 million a year. You can make what you want with that information

You don't know what the contract negotiations in entail, but if I had to guess, based on Barcas situation, they want him to stay despite all you criticisms. A playing career is short, so it's understandable he wants to look after himself financially and play football. It will be best for both parties for him to leave. It will take years for Barca to recover.

You don’t really understand the Barcelona way then. You play for Barcelona if you want to give everything to the club “mes que in club” meaning “more than a club”… that’s why players like Dani Alves are playing for the club for the minimum wage allowed by la liga, pique has cut his wage in half. All just because of the love they have of the club so they can help out. It’s different than any other club especially any club you have in England. Dembele showed his lack of desire to play for the club and has said he wants to leave, so he won’t play. That’s just how it is and it won’t change, especially under Xavi who is a graduate of La Masia.

Dembele consistently draws 2, 3, or even 4 defenders towards him which is crucial in the Barcelona play style, and subsequently he finds a pass left by those defenders or gets a curling shot away, with either foot because he is ambidextrous. In recent Barcelona matches, Dembele has been bailing the side out with his sheer ability. If anything it shows the strength of leadership xavi has to leave out such an important player. As I said, I agree with the decision.

Dembele's finishing in that supposed great game vs Madrid was shocking. It was a typical Dembele performance, moments of elite football mixed with poor ones. Barça are well within their rights to choose whoever they want to play and contrary to popular opinion they have other options who can play. Obviously it would be good to use Dembele also but he has never been decisive and they are taking a decision not to use a player who has no future at the club. Perfectly reasonable. Martin talking about Dembele not like the terms and conditions of the deal. He is asking for astromical wages when he isn't in the position to do so. Martin talking about the rest of the group. The rest of the group have taken a pay cut.. Not asked for a pay raise.

A lot of assumptions here. Unless you have seen the contract or been in the room when negotiations have been going on how could anyone know what is in the contract details. I know for a fact Simon wouldn’t sign a contract that wasn’t good for him in the log run. People don’t have much respect for the players and their short careers. Dembele has been injured 80% of the time. He's had a poor attitude and has been unprofessional throughout his time at barca. Dembele has been offered less than his contract and he doesn't want to sign that, when he's on a free like Messi was, Pogba and Mbappe will be, they can command a big signing on fee alongside bigger wages as the new club don't have to pay a transfer fee. Barcelona are in their wrong and could face actions if they try to force player to leave in this window

I think all super clubs should do this but not in the last 6 months. Letting a contract get this close to the end gives the player most of the power. Pogba, Mbappe, Kessie, Dembele, Dybala, Calhanoglu, Donnaruma etc. When a player at a superclub is in the last year of their contract the club should decide if they want to keep them or not. If they do not want to keep them they should sell them. If they do want to keep them they should offer a contract and set a 1 month deadline to negotiate and sign it. The player should be told "we want you to stay however if you do not want to extend the contract we will need to sell you" Should the player refuse to sign the contract they should be transfer listed and unregistered for the squad until they leave the club one way or another. It would stop players from running down their contracts if they knew they wouldn't get to play football for a year. At the end of that year they wouldn't be able to demand the same kind of financial package as before and would miss out on any international tournaments etc. In terms or protecting the players, they should all have realistic minimum release fees. Not £800m figures, but the value of the player in terms of what their total salary is worth along with any signing on fees and bonuses they have been given already or could earn in that contract (not goal bonuses but bonuses based on club achievements) plus transfer fees spent. The minimum release fee should be the amount to buy out and fully reimburse the costs the club would have spent on that player had they completed the full term. I realise that's never going to happen and somewhat crazy but players need to stop messing clubs around by suggesting they might still sign a contract when everyone on the outside knows it won't happen. Sign the contract, leave the club now for a transfer fee or don't play football for the final year of your contract. Those should be the 3 options!

Simon needs to stay consistant with his views and opinions, especially when he's on Radio being recorded. With Pogba he mentions having to play him regardless of his contract situation as he (in the present) is still contracted to play for Man Utd and so Utd should be able to get the most out of him regardless of if he goes in the summer or not. Whilst for Dembele its suddenly, "you're not committing to the long term with Barca"? Also, as a business man, I expected more from Simon than blaming employees (such as Dembele) for the negligence regarding Barca's wages. Barca paid those wages to the players, the players are there to play football, not to sit in board meetings and discuss club finances - thats not what they're paid to do.

It must be a nightmare playing football for a living ,earning an absolute fortune and being at one of the biggest clubs in the world. I've just thought of a great idea, all Professional football clubs open a store at the training ground and when the players reach 16 yrs of age have them stacking shelves for 6 months and then maybe washing the first teamers cars for another 6 months see how that feels. Barcelona have been really patient with dembele. He’s been in barca for 5 years and he hasn’t proven his worth. He’s been getting injured and barley playing while still had the team’s full support. The transfer fee for Ferran Torres is spread out over a number of years, to accommodate Barcelona. They haven't really spent anything to bring in that player yet. Dembele is asking for astronomical wages for sub-standard production. Stop the nonsense.

Have to disagree with Simon there the fact Barca have been in tremendous troubles and a player like Dembele isn’t getting a good run of games. He shouldn’t be warming a bench in these tough times though this should be his time. He’s in the now or never bracket. The players been Injured for nearly 50% of his time at Barcalona and is demanding nearly double money in wages to sign a new contract, would you as a club owner give him 700 grand a week wages when other players around him are taking pay cuts and playing every week? Dembele is a good player but has done very little to warrant a pay rise since signing.

Rubbish. Your underlying assumption is the belief that Dembele is good enough which as a matter of fact he isn't. He can't shoot, he plays sloppy in between runs and in the most common situations because he isn't a well-rounded player, half of his runs are rubbish because he's daft, he looks like a threat because he attempts a lot but creates way too little decent shooting opportunities to be considered dangerous... I don't even care about the injuries because he proves he ain't good enough.

😓 What these guys don't understand about the issue is the reason WHY Dembélé can't get the contract he wants (besides finances) - INJURIES. Dembélé has done less at Barça than Pogba has at Man Utd, yet he wants a big contract based on nothing but "potential". He's been there for 5 years and has missed *50%* of games through injury. How can they justify, in their current position, giving a player who's missed 50% of games massive new contract based on nothing but "potential"? He turns 25 this year and is only available half the time. They're afraid to let him go in case he performs elsewhere, but can't meet his demands based on his body of work being utterly tragic.
