Wow - so much misinformation. First of all, the starting price is £25,000 or $30,000. Second, the range for the was not disclosed, but the ranges for the other models (EV 3, 4, and 5) start at 330 miles CLTC, or 245 miles EPA , with an optional battery upgrade to provide 447 miles CLTC or 330 miles EPA. Third, KIA did not release any images for the EV2, so it is unclear if it is a small sedan, hatchback, or CUV. We just don't know. Fourth, this is planned for sale in Europe only (for now), with production in Slovakia.

Hundai motor company who produces Kia really has it going on and will do well in the next decade. Not sure which of these cars shown will actually make to market but some of them in some form will. Until then I will continue to love driving my EV6 with it's nearly unlimitted adjustable regen at your fingertips and great ride. Now to just get that range up to 400 miles and continue to upgrade the charging stations.

Well...yeah. All consumer products are becoming less durable and less repairable. That is by design. They want you to buy things, wear them out, throw them aw...[ahem]..."recycle" them, and then buy more things. That's how they make money and that's all they really care about. Right now, governments are forcing them to put out EVs, so that's the latest disposable item they're making. They're obviously not doing it because of any real demand for EVs. Barely anyone is buying them, even though they're available from every major manufacturer at this point.

Very nice, only 25K. That is a price that is more along the lines of what will be more widely accepted. But that's what the market has to go through. There was information on the internet when Tesla was first starting to get popular about potential fire hazards. That is really just the nature of lithium. The truth is, if it is exposed to air, it catches fire. It cannot be exposed to air as the starts the chemical reaction that makes it ignite. If the shell of a battery is ruptured, it will burn. So what has to be done is that they should do everything they can to engineer the vehicle in a way that it will not allow the rupture of a cell. Information if it is not supplied, should be supplied about charging practices and battery maintenance. I have had RC cars that are electric for a long time. I watched the tech go from Cadmium, to Hydride, to Lithium. There are charging practices and these batteries act a certain way. Cadmium batteries could basically be overcharged or shocked to increase their initial power. Hydrides were similar. Lithium does not tolerate an overcharge. Overcharging will quickly degrade the cells. Unfortunately, I have found information that shows some catch fire. I think what should be done there is to ensure that there is maybe redundant charging safety built in. The car along with the Chargers should be smart chargers. Maybe they already are, but there seem too be malfunctions. Such is the way of electronics. With RC vehicles, helicopters specifically, the electrics are more powerful. The Cost of the purchase of a kit is up front with electric. With gas, you pay for fuel over time. EVs are or have been basically the same. We, though the battery tech is moving and will likely continue too improve, have had the same pattern. With RC, there are cell balancers, I am sure the vehicles are the same way. But there should be a way in the car if it is not there, Malfunction of the Charger for instance, that would terminate the charge. But the car has to be able to absorb voltage and dissipate heat. I wonder if the laws have been too strict with the timelines, but manufacturers have done an incredible job in pushing the tech and getting prices down. It was actually alot to ask, but the Auto makers answered the call so they deserve credit for their efforts. What should also be understood about them is cold conditions, when its cold, electrons do not want to travel within the batteries. So the charge gets slowed. They still get faster and faster so the battery tech is moving.

Most people who buy cheaper cars don't live nor own their own homes, let alone a garage. So, these owners of cheaper EVs must have good and easy access to charging on the go. However, with the much slower charging speed of low-end EVs due to cheaper components used, it is hard not to have battery swapping for these low-end EVs. One company comes to mind ... NIO from China, which will introduce their economy EVs to European countries first in 2025, and then in USA in around 2026-2027. Battery swapping is the way to go, not just for that 3 minutes of swapping to an already fully charged battery, but also lower the costs of ownership of EVs due to not having to buy the battery outright, and no worry of the depreciation and degradation of the battery. Thirdly, insurance for the EVs will be lower due to no need to insure the battery by the owner of the low-end EVs. NIO should come to USA market ASAP. Check it out.

Jury is still out on swapping. There's extra expense involved, you'd pay for it one way or the other. When ranges and charging speeds go up, and chargers are all over the place, it won't look so good. But Stellantis is looking into it.

It is funny how only non-EV drivers worry about replacing a battery. My 2019 Kia e-Niro (Niro EV in the USA) is coming up 5 years old and 100,000 km driven. I have experienced no loss of range at all. A battery health check at 90,000 km service showed all 294 cells reaching nominal voltage...the car has a 3.5 kWh buffer on top of the 64 kWh available. I expect at 10 years old the buffer will be used up and I will see a little bit of range loss but I will be at 200,000 km then....at 15 years and 300,000 km (180,000 miles) I expect to see between 10%-20% range loss...but bear in mind that the average ICE car in Europe is on the scrap heap at 16 years and 250,000 km. Even if I were unlucky and my car suddenly lost a lot of range I would not necessarily have to replace the entire pack. The battery is comprised of 3 modules of 98 cells each....there are already specialist garages who can diagnose down to module level, replace the module and rebalance the pack. There are some good videos of this being done in the UK on a Nissan Leaf taxi with 120,000 miles on the clock. The job was done in a day and cost under £1,000 less than an engine or gearbox rebuild.

Sodium ion has a fatal flaw that will keep it from being viable in Evs. Besides being much less energy dense then even LFP cells it also has a large voltage drop as it discharges, which means you lose power as soon as its not fully charged. At 50 percent battery, you have lost around 45 percent of the batteries power and under 25 percent you have lost around 60 percent. I can't imagine driving a car that has 200 hp at one moment and a little while later has under 100 HP.

Why would you even worry about needing to replace the battery? It is funny how only non-EV drivers or the irrational EV haters worry about this stuff. Most EV batteries will outlive the car..My Kia EV is 5 years old an coming up to 100,000 km, no range loss at all, all 294 cells reaching nominal voltage...the BMS keeps a voltage floor and ceiling buffer, so I would have to see >5% degradation to notice any range loss. Once the 3.5 kWh buffer is used up then I will see some range loss which I expect to be no more than 45 km (10%) at 10 years and 200,000 km. This still gives me a car with 400 km range. My battery is now considered old tech and the prices are coming down all the time. No one will ever pay $60K to replace a battery...there is already an aftermarket in refurbished packs which will become more competitive as more and more EV get old...but in most cases there will be no need to replace the pack as for most faults module level replacement is enough

@@kiae-nirodiariesencore4270 10 years from now batteries will be in high supply, probably be solid state, and cost 10-20% of what it costs today, there's no spare supply or logistics to deliver large heavy batteries. Like you said, once rebuilds and generics are created for competition, that red herring will disappear.

Brands that will barely be around in 5 years? Toyota, GM and Ford at the rate they are switching to EV sales? The market will have long moved on... To Tesla, KIA, VW, BYD amongst others...
