We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog
We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.
SUBSCRIBE to our channel and join us every SUNDAY for a new episode of our journey!!

Roberta and Duca, marvelous workshop, truly a massive project now into 20 days with more to come. By the time the workshop is finished it'll be summer in France. I haven't seen Roberta feeding the goat and sheep, nor have I seen the chickens of late? Can't wait for the electrical portion of your shop, should be really interesting. Thanks for sharing, your level of intensity building this shop is mind blowing.

i have been following you for 5 years now and this is my first comment . Your roof sections could have easily been fixed from the inside if you had a strip of beading around the top edge of your walls. . This way it would be easy to disassemble . Good luck with your projects , Paul

Thanks a lot Paul. Yep for sure there are better and easier ways to build the workshop but when you build something for the first time at some point you need to commit to an idea/solution 😅 and the is something we love about this kind of project. We always learn something new that we can improve in future projects 🥰😅

Congratulations Duca and Roberta on an excellent workshop. Your attention to detail is at an OCD level. When you go to transport the shed to its new location, can you rent a trailer to tow behind your van that could haul the panels without having to fully disassemble them? Thank you for sharing your fascinating adventures.

Duca, you are doing a wonderful job. Can I just suggest one thing for security of your tools, etc. Your hinges are on the outside of the door so, your doors open out. Anyone can take the pins out of your hinges and get inside, whereas, if your hinges opened your doors to the inside, your shed would be secure. Safer for you. If the hinges are in the inside, no one can hammer out the pins and get inside your shed. That is if your are wanting the shed to be secure. ❤

I wonder if you considered buying a 10ft shipping containerr. They are very easy to insulate and fit out. Admittedly it costs a few hundred euros to move. The big benefit is that you can sell it at the end of the project. It also provides secure storage for your tools. Alternatively I would have purchased a ready to assemble timber shed, I presume they are available in France. They take an hour to assemble.

You could have oversized your door panels and that would have done away with screwing those extra pieces on the doors. If you would have put access panels in the side walls you could have screwed the ceiling/roof down from the inside of the shop. Foam insulation tape between all of the panels would have eliminated all of the air gaps. Just some thoughts.

Duca, did you leave tolerances for the doors to expand when the weather warms up, or is your construction scheduled to complete before the temperatures increase? A fix would be to use the 40 grit to take wood off where necessary. Roberta, is Duca starting to get a bit nervous about that other more important event scheduled down the road? Entertaining episode, it is. Bsst, :¬) Webhead USA

You are demonstrating a greater level of knowledge and skill than you say you have! And it is really looking good! Now, how about double entry doors so you won't release so much warm air when you go in and out! 😉 Just kidding! I thought your plan for doing the roof was clever! And Roberta helped with her suggestion! You have mentioned several times about rain coming in through the windows. Is there no glass in those windows? I can't tell. Does the family have cats or kittens? Or are there small chicks running around? It may be possible that a cat could get stuck behind the shop in the small gap between the wall and the shop. You are not going to be able to move the shop. If so, maybe you could shove some leftover insulation in the entry to the gap part way up.

Duca, Why didn't you just screw the plywood to the frame while on the ground and then place it on top? In fact, you could have assemled the insulation and both plywood sides on the 4x8 frame and then place them on for the roof. The added weight would have been minimal. Now you need some ventilation installed.

Vivendo e aprendendo, e aproveitando o processo. 🥰

Roberta, lovely lady, time for school of hard knocks. 1st, dont shave door to fit, unscrew plywood on that edge and pound 2x4 into position and rescrew plywood to hold 2x4 into place. 2nd, and this a BIGGEE, im gonna wait till u load the shed with all your tools, materials, and valuables, then im gonna show up with a hammer and nail, pop out the hinge pins, take the doors off and sell all your tools at the pawn shop. 3rd, put the hinges on the inside and live with in swing doors and think like a thief.

Not sure why you had to screw the plywood to the frame where the plywood/frame will be on top of the walls - just screw down from the top of the ceiling through the two plywood sheets and the frame. Still, it works either way.

The problem is the quality of the plywood and timber. Too warp so thee would be a risk of a gap and facilitating humidity to get in. So we prefer not to risk. 😅

@@OddLifeCrafting I can see that, though I would have thought that the weight of the ceiling frames plus a few large screws going through to the wallplate would have flattened it out. Still, as I said, it works fine anyway.

@@OddLifeCrafting Very wise. Though I am a little nonplussed at the efforts to make everything airtight, except for two large holes in the wall (albeit with fans in them).

Would have been cheaper and quicker to buy a shed and insulate it ? and saved money for your boat.

I understand that you want to build everything perfectly. But you should stop second guessing yourself so much. You are much better at building thing's than you give yourself credit for. Sometimes you overwhelm yourself with your overthinking. I appreciate you wanting to be a perfectionist, you did well sir 👏 you learn from everything you do and working with wood don't forget you will have swelling from dampness, so give yourself a little clearance for that. Be safe, stay healthy 🙏.

Using a sealant along the ceiling will not save much heat and wil cause you a bunch of work later. Don't do it.

To be honest on summer would be great to bring the humidity down for painting things. We did that a lot in the Caribbean on the boatyard. 😅 but this time won't happen. hehehe

Does seem a bit excessive making it so airtight when you are going to need to ventilate it anyway. I reckon the money saved not making such an overengineered workshop would more than pay for a bit of electricity to heat something less perfect. You are not going to live in it.
