SAILING around the world in a TINY boat!

SAILING around the world in a TINY boat! Meet Yann Quenet, a Frenchman who designed and built his 4m yacht in his garage and decided to sail around the world... I had the privilege of chatting to him when he arrived in Richards Bay after a gruelling sail from Reunion Island, around the southern part of Madagascar.
Why is he doing this? Because it's been his childhood dream and he wants to meet new people.... Is he crazy? Some may say so. Yann is the most humble, down to earth person I have met in a long time and I love that he is always smiling and full of the joy of life!
In this video you will see inside his tiny home and find out how he sails with only one mast. He also explains the design of his boat and how he built it.
If you would like to follow his adventures and completing his circumnavigation, please check him out on Facebook or on his website.

I live in a nice house, I have a nice car, I’ve put two kids through college and am working on the youngest getting through college. I’m comfortable in a way I never though I would be and I’m so jealous of this man with a 13 foot boat. I’m jealous of the courage he has and the ability he has. I've been watching sailing videos for the last few years and I see that many solo sailors are using boats in the 30 foot range, but the actual living space on these usually just consist of the area from the steps into the cabin and up to the V berth. So much space is consumed by a diesel engine and a pointed bow. Less really is more.

The thoughtfulness and consideration that has gone into this boat could fill a book! The builder and his boat inspire others to build their own compact, ocean capable sailboats. He is a very clever man and an outstanding sailor, but some look down their noses at small vessels and label their builder as odd or crazy, whereas there's nothing but excellent design and outstanding craftsmanship in this boat. I suspect that many feel insecure that this man built his own boat and then went on to sail it as few had done before or since! Thank you for this interview with a truly remarkable man whom lives life simply at his own pace...

This is the first video of yours that I have seen, so that was a good start! I could say lots about your subject Yann, but others more familiar with him than me have already done so. I really wanted to compliment you on an engaging and sensitive interview. The way you handled any language issues and encouraged Yann to talk was lovely.

That is an excellent design! Many very small boats that have crossed oceans have been very, very slow. This boat is clearly capable of making decent passages, not at all slow for it's length!
