We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life.
We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.
SUBSCRIBE to our channel and join us every SUNDAY for a new episode of our journey!!

Hi Duca, where is your baby going to sit?

@@paulrijk1 In the middle seat, like this thewholeworldornothing.com/vanlife-with-a-baby/
I must publicly apologize to you both. I had stated that I thought your hinges were backwards. First, I am not a carpenter. I spoke out of place. Please accept my apology. I have watched you as well since your container conversion. I am absolutely impressed by your knowledge and uniqueness of your ideas. I was really impressed by the tub you made. I can see where we as viewers can speak out of place. Stay strong and know you are wonderful people. Much love sent your way!

You are truly one in a million. I would like to say thank you for showing us that you are a real person. Because, so many people wouldn't say that they were wrong. Thank you for sharing your faults. God bless you and I am so proud of you. Have a blessed day 🙏 ✨️
Just look at how clever Duca is! A natural fabricator for real! Roberta, you “baby bump” is growing larger with each of your posting and I am so excited for you!
I like watching your new container home on wheels coming together as you work out how to confront and overcome all of the issues you need to work out, just as you have at least twice before.
Always a pleasure to be following you - tiny house, yacht, van - doesn't matter.
Duca is a genius with figuring out (being super lucky??) the angles and creating 'masterpieces" ---- as Roberta will find out shortly. Speaking of the Glow Woman---you just shine with health and pride. I am so happy for the three of you.
your just building like an engineer.. as a carpenter for over 40+ years now it has been a joy to watch an engineer build instead of design.. your doing a great job I think.. it is different than I would do but you are making a very neat and precise and beautiful build.. something to be proud of.. and with this experience you will outfit your boat quicker and even better than this.. Oh man contact cement.. I actually hate this stuff.. it is like mastic I seem to get it every where and such a head ache.. like the old saying goes "Better you than me!" Man I love you watch you guys.. never afraid to venture out and try new things.. Wish I was young again..
an artist and a perfectionist...sweet...applying all the knowledge acquired building a tiny house, a boat..now a van....awesome
With all this Plywood and laminating by the time you have finished this van all you will be able to load in it is a few cans of Tuna. You should be exploring lightweight options. When considering lightweight alternatives to plywood for projects like van conversions or other mobile builds, here are some options you might want to explore: Honeycomb Panels: These panels consist of a honeycomb structure sandwiched between thin layers of material such as aluminum or fiberglass. They are lightweight and provide good strength. Corrugated Plastic Sheets: Corrugated plastic sheets are durable, lightweight, and water-resistant. They are commonly used for temporary structures and signage but can also be used for certain interior applications. Foam Core Boards: Foam core boards, like PVC foam boards or foam-cored polyethylene sheets, are lightweight and offer good insulation properties. They are easy to work with and can be a good alternative to plywood. Aluminum Composite Panels: These consist of a thermoplastic core sandwiched between aluminum sheets. They are lightweight, durable, and offer good rigidity.

As its designed to carry huge weights of cargo, doubt this is a problem!

Cost and easy to work material plays a huge part on the decision. This is poplar plywood that is really light. Here in france that is the most common material used as it has great cost/weight benefit. 😅
Your attention to detail and craftsmanship is amazing. I have been watching for a while and will continue to follow your journey.
A useful trick for gluing laminate to wood, as you are doing, is to lay a sheet of polythene onto the wood, then put the laminate on top of the polythene. Line everything up correctly, then carefully slide the polythene out from between them. I've done this in the past, and it has been very successful.
You two never cease to amaze me...brilliant job! 😎👍⛵
Great job both of you. I love your episodes. Duca tends to over think, Roberta balances Duca , ❤ Love and see you next week…
I think you should make the bottom of your shampoo shelf angled so the water flows out .

It is this way. You can’t see in the video but there is an angle on it. 🥰
Excelent mechanical precision, DIY family!
Très bon travail, je n'avais aucun doute que l'utilisation de Sika comme scellant et joint en caoutchouc minimiserait le bruit interne. Duncan et Roberta passent une excellente semaine!
Loving watching the van build, always wanted to have a van and travel. Sadly, retired now and nowhere to build one so living it through you both 🙂
Good things happen to good people!! So resilient. We love you.

Thanks so much for the love always! 🥰
I have been watching you two for at least a year now and you never cease to amaze me with your abilities. My comment today is about the music you choose and the volume settings you sync with the videos. I love It!!!! Masterful!!
I love how meticulous you are and what a quality job you do!! Just ignore those who say you overcomplicate things. Keep doing what you believe is the right way!!!
Love your attention to detail! Looks great!
You two are awesome. I hope I can get my projects to look half as good as yours as I refit my sailboat.
Thanks! Love your videos and hope you both have a healthy Baby. Your channel is awesome!

Thanks a lot 🥰
Thanks for sharing! Very interesting. Its sad you can not film your boatbuild, but hey, your vanbuild is very interesting too. We are glad to have met you at the Shards Christening party and we started following you since. Keep it up! Love, Rob and Jouke.
The tear in the laminate is where you place your "Built by Duca" label! :¬) Webhead USA
Brilliant work all round. You really think everything out as you move forward with the work. A fantastic working and practical bulkhead. Keep well and safe. James.
Nice craftmanship. I would have preferred a pass thru, but this is nice too.
excellent craftsman the both of you! Enjoy watching your video and eagerly anticipating the next installation.
i think since you will sell the van at the end, you should keep the original bulkhead for the next user. they are usually expensive and difficult to find. store it somewhere in the meantime and put it at the back/cargo area for the next guy. let him decide whqt to do. the seat goes further back with the bulkhead, top and bottom, the plastic one. if he will be tall he will have a big problem adjusting the seat.. good luck! thank you
Good job Duka looks fantastic!
Coming along nicely!
Good work. Always remember that too much build weight will affect what you can put in.
Love the choice of colors. Praying, Roberta and the baby are doing well. Excellent episode guys, you three Rock!
So happy the wall is working and, it's magic! Your minds are so creative! Stay Safe. Rub your belly Roberta and tell Oli hello!😊 ✝️🙏❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇧🇷⛵️👣👣👣☘️🥰
E deu certo.Que bom e logo a Van estará prontinha .Sua casinha.Sucesso😊😊😊
As you are in France, there is an opportunity to buy the ultimate tool for rolling out those panels … a Baguette 🥖 ❤❤❤❤😳🫣😂🤣
Another great update. Best wishes all.
Looking good guys, I can't to see the next step is.😎👍
personally I would try to fit a pas through between the driving area and the "house. Imagine waking up and its raining HARD you need to move, you both have to get out, get wet and run round to the doors. Or god forbid you have someone attempting to rob the van thinking its empty. Even a hatch you can lock from either side would do. 👍

The original idea was to have a window but in the end to keep the three sit configuration the window ended up way too small but we might add a "door eye" (not sure how you call). A passage is impossible if we want to keep the three sit configuration and regarding that we have no option, there is a baby arriving in 3 months. 🥰
FANTASTICO TRABAJO, saludos desde Malaga ESPAÑA
Thanks!

Show🙌🤩 Tá ficando muito linda! não vejo a hora de andar nela💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
Boa noite Riberta e Duka.😊😊😊
Great work guys.
very nice to see you again. Even though you are not yet working on the boat, it is still fun to follow you (from the start of your first project). How is Roberta doing by the way?
Good job Duka.
Looking Great!
Another wonderful video. You will probably need to upgrade the vehicle weight, this interior is going to be so so heavy. Add to that if you are going to take it to anywhere cold, you will need a lot of insulation. Good luck.
Hi again just one thing to precise to you about august month .. I do not know what are your plan but it will be fun if you go navigate or boat show or even your new boat yard to get organised and visit because in august the factory will be closing or a lot of people will be on holidays so you maybe able to film it because guaranty the main guy will be off … that is France for you and especially Rhône Alpe region ….it may be a good time for you to visit Lyon ….xxxx
well done
Hey guys, love the channel. I am happy when I see the baby mama growing every week. I was just thinking that you guys are in an area of France that 99.5% of your viewers will never go. Any chance some day trips every week to interesting places would boost your content? Just a thought.
Nice work.
It's coming alone! Take care. ❤
Nice job!!! It is always enjoy your videos. Raul and Joan Bryan, TX
Very good
Duca, make a small piece of wood trim to cover your mistake. Easy and done 😊
11:15 More (hollow) macaroni than spaghetti! 😊
Un vídeo estupendo
Nice
Que bom que tudo anda bem. Se passam por Vienna um dia nos avisa
to cover the worn lamination sheet, is it possible to put another complete sheet on top of the worn sheet ?
Estupendo trabajo ...pero vigilen bien el peso final del vehículo ..las homologaciones en europa son complejas...
Ficou bom, mas deu trabalho, Roberta esta linda de barriguinha do Nenê.🥰😉😉😉
I am so surprised they haven't figured this out yet. Are you going to sail the ocean with a new baby? What about all the issues that come with a newborn? Weeks or months at sea with a new child will be almost impossible.
@OddLifeCrafting
3 күн бұрын
The baby will be born in 3 months. The hull of the boat is not even ready. Remember that we will build the interior and all the systems ourselves so by the time we set sail the baby won't be a baby anymore, he will be a kid. There is people that cross oceans with a new born, we don't wanna do that. 🥰
Thx
How are you going to access the van in front of the bulkhead without going outside. Do you plan to have a door????
@OddLifeCrafting
3 күн бұрын
We go outside. 😅 No door.
How u get that vetus doormat?
@OddLifeCrafting
5 күн бұрын
They gifted us! 🥰
Luka why are u blocking the entranz from driver seat to back.? All camper vans have seats to turn back facing the back off the camper. Just asking Oto
@OddLifeCrafting
5 күн бұрын
We answered that on the video. We need to keep the 3 seats in front and then we cannot turn them. Also having a bulkhead keeps a better insulation to travel to cold places
❤Duka doo not overload de van de playwood is havy In europa is de max 3600 kg incl de persons and everiting in it

The weight of 15mm poplar plywood is 6.7kg/m2, it’s the lighter we can get. In some places we are gonna use 5mm that weights 2.2kg/m2
ROBERTA YOU LOOK SO BEAUTIFUL BEING PREGNANT!!!..❤❤😊
I have watched you guys since the beginning. Now I’ve come to the conclusion you’ll never be satisfied. Like my ex that changed her hair color constantly.
@kapkone
5 күн бұрын
I think they enjoy projects, whereas most people would be so done after a boat renovation
why not just epoxy the plywood and leave it that way? i know you're practicing for the boat. it would be nice to have some wood in it with a clear finish.
@OddLifeCrafting
5 күн бұрын
We agree, for the boat we will have for for sure exposed wood but for the van we needed to use poplar plywood due to the maximum weight aloud and poplar is way to fragile that's why we applied the laminated to protect it. 😅
this used to be such a great interesting channel a sailing channel no its not worth it sorry come back when you have a boat
