I would have told you at the beginning how Israelies would respond. I am from Iran and we have Jewish people and non of these stereotypes that we heard about Jewish people when we moved to Europe exist in Iran. I have so many Jewish frieds and they are so different from each other from appearance to being religious or secular nor they together the way people think in Europe or are roomers. They have been missudetstood without people asking them, to me they have been the nicest people and friends that am still thankful of. just empty your mind and look forward for getting someone new to know and could change your life.

@@RobespierreThePoof yes the people of Iran are misunderstood just like the people of Isreal. For the world it's hard to believe that the government of Iran does not represent the people of Iran. Iranian people would be the most ideal people for being friends with Jewish people. Iran being anamie of Israel is unnecessary and is herding Iranian people. On the other hand no one should take side with Israel or Palastin. If so then one should take side with both. Because both suffer. Two state solution is not good. If the Israelites are better of then Jews need to run the country for both and Palistinian need to adjust them self to the culture. So the next generation would grow without hatred. Iranian people are not pleased with the Mullahs supporting Palastin. Its not there problem, they have enough problems in Iran. Trust me this is what 90% of Iranian think, but it doesn't mean that they want Israel to bomb them. It's in the human nature that they unify and become one when they are thretend. If Iranian people went to the street for Sulaymanie was because he was a general and defiedet there borders against Iraq , when Iranian were sleeping safely. But it doesn't mean that Iranian like his thoughts and Idialegie. It's like Americans wanting to be bombed because they don't like Trump. So don't get confused and keep your faith,. We must believe and hope for peace and good. No matter what reality is. All human achievements were a dream at first.

The woman had it correct when she brought up Shabbat. Judaism sanctifies life. Violating Shabbat is one of the largest desecration as you can make in Judaism. One of the LARGEST. The fact that you are permitted to desecrate this in order to preserve life, to desecrate it, if life is even in question of being at risk, shows the extent that life means. We do not go and put our life on the line needlessly for a cause. This is sacrilegious. there is a difference between fighting for your country and your people, but we do not glorify death. If they die, it is unfortunate. But we do not glorify it. We do not promote it. We do not want it.

Liar…..just look at those illegal squatters in the West Bank. The Zios use them has human shields to colonize the natives. Then the State swoops in and takes the spoils. The illegal settlers are the tip of the spear of the Zionist project. It happens in all settler colonial projects. I never thought about what it meant to be a parent in Israel up until now. When I was growing up going a little bit back and forth between America and Israel for vacations and to visit family I always took it at face value. When you turn 18 you go to the army. I was not going to be living in Israel so I would not have to go to the army. And going to the army doesn't necessarily mean fighting on the battlefield or being in risk, there are computer teams, engineers, media teams, etc. but it holds a weight to it. There is always a chance that it doesn't have to be as much of a threat though. Perhaps some of these parents can look towards a future where their kids won't even need to join the army or at least to be at any risk while being in the army.

Just some clarification: The way that the question was posed in Meah Shaarim was not posed correctly and therefore not understood by them. Here is the stance according to Torah: 1. As a general rule, Judaism does not glorify death. 2. JUDAISM DOES NOT BELIEVE IN THE ISLAMIC CONCEPT OF SHAHID! 2. There does exist a concept of Martyrdom in Judaism, but it differs VASTLY from Islam's concept of Martyrdom. Islam believes (apparently) in a proactive Martyrdom as a first line of offense. Thus, many Muslims teach their kids to glorify blowing themselves up to kill their enemies. Judaism wants NONE of that. Martyrdom in Judaism, as a general rule, means ALLOWING oneself to be killed as a G-d Fearing JEW rather than convert to another faith. 3. As far as war, the first line of defense is to try to make peace. When that is not possible we look to defend ourselves. In very extreme cases where there is absolutely NO other choice, then martyrdom is allowed as a defensive strategy (NOT as an offensive one). The only case I can think of that is remotely similar is with Shimshon HaGibor and even there the circumstances differ greatly. Shimshon fought for years against the Philistines, but never as a suicide mission. However, once he was captured and put on display shackled to two pillars for the amusement and rejoicing of 15,000 Philistines over his capture and ultimate death, he realized that there was no possibility for him to escape. Thus, being that he was going to die anyways, he decide to take the opportunity to protect his people from further attacks by taking out as many Philistines with him as possible. His destroying the building killed almost all 15,000 people. Of course, he died in the process, but if he could have somehow escaped instead, he would have done so. His action of Martyrdom stopped the war for some time as a result. This, however, is VERY different than deciding to go on the offensive and attack the Philistines with kamikaze intentions. WE DO NOT BELIEVE IN DOING THAT! 4. As one woman stated, she could not fathom how any mother would want Shahid for her son. I do not know ANY Jew who would desire such actions as becoming a suicide bomber for their child. This is FAR from our thought process. It's UNTHINKABLE!!!!

Not between the faiths, between the cultures. In Islam, life has absolute priority and a sin is not even considered a sin if you are forced to do it with a gun to your head. In Judaism it is a bit different. But Israelis are influenced by Western thought where life is the highest good, because you only have one. Also, Israelis are aware of their relative safety and their better position in comparison with Palestinians. Though it is often said, Israel is not really under a threat, they are a nuclear armed power under the protection of the most powerful country on Earth. They don't think about losing their lives due to the conflict as much as Palestinians do, also, they are satisfied with the status quo. Being prepared to give up your life for liberty and a life in dignity and prosperity is different from giving up your life just to fight off some "terrorist" attack on 7 people who have nothing to do with you. I can relate to both positions, to a certain extent

Israel isn't a direct threat to Palestinians who simply live their lives.. they have their own territories in which they would never even see an Israeli.. they are practically their own country in areas A and B, and their lives are certainly not threatened just for living there... So who in their right mind would want to give the lives of their children, to fight to expand its territory.. not even to fight for their lives. And even if they were in danger.. who would choose dying a martyr, when it's clearly possible to negotiate with Israel to gain independence. Also.. Israelis aren't really that safe. They might be strong, but they have lots of enemies, from the outside and from within.. one small mistake could lead to the country being cut in half. Israel doesn't have the manpower to fight all the Muslim world in all fronts.. and you are never expected to use nuclear weapons.. they are pretty much there for show. And the USA does whatever it wants. We see how much it helps Ukraine despite agreeing to protect it 30 years ago. If somebody takes a gun to your head and says (1) kill this other Jew or I will kill you, (2) do this idol worship or I will kill you, (3) have sexually intercourse with a forbiden relation (such as with your mother, sister, daughter, a married woman, etc.), then, in all 3 cases you must give up your life but NOT commit that specify "cardinal sin". If that evil person does kill you, then you died as a "martyer". Also, any Jew killed for reason that he is a Jew, he is consider a "martyer".

It's scary that the concept of martyrdom in Islam is so loose and vague that it can be exploited by terrorists any time. recently, a guy mass shot a mosque in Iran knowing he's gonna be killed by police/security, but he still did it anyway, because he thought he's martyr for slaughtering and being killed by the people he considered heretics. all muslim should watch this video and learn from the jews about the concept of martyrdom. The majority of Muslims know that this is not martyrdom, nor is any suicide attack especially on civilians! The only reason for those attacks is revenge and to hurt the other party as much as they hurt us! It most definetly is not Martyrdom, whether it is a sin, I think is debatable! Allthough like in Judaism, revenge killing is technically tolerated ( eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth). But they kill on the basis of nationality and not those who actually killed their loved ones! Most of our Martyrs are civilians who were killed by the IDF, some fighting and some caught in middle of it. So when we say, it is an honor to die a Martyr, it is a way to honor those who have died trying to defend us or that died because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time! It is a way to prepare oneself for the future, because with israel getting more agressive every year, it's highly likely that Palestinians will die a Martyr, especially Civilians! I and the majority of Muslims believe, those who commit suicide attacks on civilians are not considered Martyrs according to Islam!

The concept IS kind of loose, in the sense that there is a discussion among scholars as to who is considered a martyr except in the obvious case of dying to fight off islamophobes who want your life. For example, a woman who dies fighting her ra.pist is also considered a martyr though she really didn't protect her faith, but just her body, purity and psychological health. However, there is a consense among scholars that terrorists can't be considered martyrs. They don't defend but harm Islam, abd they commit lots of sins while doing so (mur.der, tort.ure, sui.cide, just to name a few)

The Torah and Jewish people highly praise those who maintain their faith against strong coercion, even if (and one could argue "especially if") that coercion leads to death (because it could be seen to elevate the bravery/show absolute commitment). This drive, though, to see commitment in the face of death as exemplary isn't religious in nature but human.

The Torah was written at a time when there was no concept of Paradise, but rather total destruction or a shadowy afterlife in Sheol. Therefore obviously it does not encourage reckless actions to get oneself killed as though there is an afterlife to compensate it. By the time of the books of the Maccabees, the belief in resurrection already existed, so people were more willing to die for that defensive martyrdom (death for refusing to apostatize to Greek paganism). In Christianity, there was also that concept of course, since it's also from the late second Temple period. In Islam, influenced by the increasingly aggressive imperial Christian propaganda of the time, martyrdom started to be more acceptable for offensive wars. And then finally Islam took the final step to promote death in the battlefield, even in aggressive, offensive wars for the spread of the religion and the caliphate, as not just acceptable, but the supreme goal in life, further seduced by the carnal descriptions of the afterlife. Sad...

Actually, there is a concept of kiddush HaShem, sanctifying G-d's name, which we can do in many positive ways. However, there are circumstances in which we should die rather than violate three specific prohibitions: idolatry, sexual prohibitions such as incest or adultery, and murder, and this is also considered kiddush HaShem.

In Judaism we do have Shaheed, but they are called Kaddoshim, which is very different than Shaheed in Islam. Kaddosh, from my understanding and what I have been taught, are those who have an obligation to save someone at all costs -- if those people who are to be saved number a Minyan or above. Martyrs in Judaism are heroes not for dying, but heroes for saving others and self-sacrifice. Even those who do not die are still considered to be Kaddoshim. Those who are killed for the sake of their identity are also considered Kaddoshim, people who die before they are willing to forsake their identity. The definition of a Martyr in Judaism is, "A holy one", one who dedicated their lives to goodness. To my understanding, Shaheed in Islam, is the sanctification of death, whereas in Judaism it is the memory of life.

One must die rather than commit impermissible sexual act - one must die rather than kill another person under coercion - and one must die rather than commit an act of idol worship under coercion.
