His background is commerials and art history. His is well trained in making every second and frame have meaning and impact, both visually and symbolically. In commercials u only have a few seconds to capture the audience attention and sell a product/story, and in art history like old paintings one single picture, like a wall or tappestry, needs to tell a whole story using composition, symbols, allocation, nostalgia, mythology and associations. U can see him taking cinema as a "visual storytelling medium" quite literally as he convays his stories through visuals more than dialouge. Even his dialouge seldom are straight forward and only says exactly what is needed both narrativly and symbolically for the characters anf plot. He ofteb dwells ik symbolig layers, which is a storytelling trooe very common used in paintings but also very frequently used in comic books. Simoly because page numbers, sizes and frames is usually the currency in a comicbook as a medium. U usally have limited with space, so u tell your story visually more than through dialouge. The same is what snyder naturally does in all his films. His visuals are his stories

Alex Palamito this is a strawman argument and really faulty logic. There’s a major difference between being a nice guy (what you described in your first paragraph) and being a bad director (what you imply people say). They’re not mutually exclusive and being one does not have much bearing on the other. Some of the greatest and influential directors of all time were assholes. While that bad behaviour shouldn’t be tolerated, they nevertheless were gifted directors (thinking of Hitchcock, Kubrick and to a certain extent Tarantino. Hell, even Spielberg has been reported to be harsh sometimes)

Yeah its a stupid comment. Sam Rami's Spiderman trilogy oozes with vision and personality. Kickass and Kingsmen both really feel like Mathew Vaughn as well. Logan, Deadpool and the rest of the xmen movies (whether you like them or hate them) have a 'feel' to them thats significantly different to, say, the MCU. Hell, even movies within the MCU can sometimes have unique vision. The first Iron Man movie was pretty tame and grounded compared to current MCU standards, and James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy could only be written by him.

I think I prefer his more recent films (Watchmen up to the present). Before Watchmen, I think he was still in the phase of trying to better his style of filmmaking. Just look at 300 and Sucker Punch, almost every shot is a slow-mo with a speed rack. But with Watchmen, it started getting a bit "cleaner." The uses of those film techniques started to feel more purposeful rather than just random creative choices. That's my opinion anyway, still a huge fan of his work. Been a day one DCEU fan and MoS is one of my top films of the 2010s.

Mad respect being tossed your way. Snyder is the most inspiring filmmaker of mine. Loved the little Watchmen rant at the end: “you can’t make fun of one medium in a different medium, that doesn’t work, that’s why Zack Snyder didn’t do that in watchmen that’s why he made fun of comic book movies in the comic movie adaptation of Watchmen”. I’d love to hear your thoughts on Robert Eggers. I’m really psyched for his upcoming film The Northman, and I adore his previous two features: The VVitch and The Lighthouse. What do you think?

You get Watchmen as a movie better than anybody I've seen on the Internet. I always scratch my head seeing criticisms of the film saying "it over stylizes superheroes and shows off their coolness like it's Batman!!" Yeah that's kind of the goddamn point: he's relating his movies to other movies.

I'm going to argue that Style IS Substance even in 300, where the last scene is the only "real" scene in the film and you realize all the flashy action has been a propaganda film to hype up the Spartan army. I find it similar to something like Verhoeven's STARSHIP TROOPERS, but 300 winks even less at the audience.
