as small business owner it necessary to look at the statistic of employee productivity, i own small juice bar , one of my production staf was underperforming (slow and always complaining ) he make my 2 other staf assisting his job everytime , when i track how much he produce compared to 2 other staf its clear to me he has no motivation in this business, i know its bad if i only think about how much one person can make $$$ to my business, but i think its VERY BAD to add extra burden to my 2 other employee while they recieve the same amount of paycheck

It's not about EVIL, It's about being value degraded in most kind of jobs today. I think the problem is not statistic... The problem is most of the time managers who use those statistic don't have deep understanding about employee's work and their business as a whole. I can say I've done an engineering task for within a day, It's hit the target. Managers are happy, But it could cause billion for company the long run if the engineer don't focus on making it right. I can say I hit the sell target for this year... Managers are happy, But it could cause the company the bad reputation for next-generation customer. Not only for employment but everythings in this world... You never ever make decision upon statistic, You use statistic help you make decision upon.

You remind me of the worst managers I have had...those who are blind to the value added by an employee, because the employee has not gamed the system to max out one particular metric to the detriment of all others. This is myopic, middle-management, short-termism, that is not worthy of top level management.

You confuse metrics with real value added, of which much is intangible. Your mistake is to equate the ease of measuring a thing with the value that thing adds to you and to your business. This stuff just shows how out of touch you are with the reality of business.

It is OK, we are all learning, but please do not preach such a corrosive business culture. In my experience it is those most detached from the true reality of business that suffer most when economic times change.
