Absolutely agree on the economics comment. I have a coworker who is a Republican, planning on voting for Trump, but we've had some great conversations about politics. I even got him to agree on free healthcare, because we were talking about prisons and found common ground on the need to eliminate for profit prisons, since they incentivize convictions. When I pointed out that for profit healthcare is similar, in that it incentivizes charging more for care and lowering the quality of service, he considered it and ended up agreeing with it completely. I hope that at some point I can get him to understand more of my perspective, because he's a smart guy, just grew up with different values

For the record, 2016 polling accurately predicted the popular vote outcome within the expected margin of error, its just that those models do not reflect tiny numbers of people (like 50k) in very specific swing states deciding the entire election. Which is why modern polling focuses more on individual states and has dedicated electoral college forecasts.

“Hungry and sleepy” metaphor perfectly described what I went through. I was laid off bcz ai and I wasn’t getting offers and I was so spiteful. I started getting all these recommendations about how Indian immigrants are ruining Canada and I was trying to block all of them so I didn’t turn evil. I remember my dad asking me how it’s going and I said “there’s no jobs left for us.” It was racist and mean. I got a good job now and I’m so sick at how quickly I got mad at something I don’t even understand. I met an Indian girl at my new job and she’s literally the most perfect person I’ve ever met and I’m so mad at my thoughts. I don’t want anyone to feel the despair I felt. I keep reading about starving Ukrainian immigrants that came to my city in the 30s. They told stories of having to barter their husbands body because it was a protein source. I hate that I can be so easily tricked.

The biggest problem with the elections in the US is that you have to "work your way up" to being the President. Because the political sphere is so overwhelmingly dominated by the Democrat and Republican parties, you need the party's approval to even prepare a Presidential campaign. Realistically speaking the best candidate for the presidency is probably some Senator from a small state, but the parties will never let someone like that run because of how much they hate the other party. Why risk it with some kid that hasn't gone through the pseudo Cursus Honorum we demand when you can position the 900 year old guy with more "seniority." The least risky choice is to prop up horrible candidates, but you're also basically affirming that you want a 50/50 coin toss. If a candidate runs independent, like Kennedy, even if they are the obviously better choice, without support from either party, they physically can't win. How many people are "Republicans" or "Democrats" and will *only* vote for that party- even hating people from the other party? How many news stations are just objectively biased towards either party? As long as Trump doesn't blow up the foundations of our country (which he very well might if he follows through with his promises) I wouldn't be surprised if we see Independent/Third party candidates gain much more popular support. I don't see how the Republican party can survive having Trump be their guy in the long term, the guy's a ticking time bomb. Him and Biden are about 5 years younger than my grandparents, and somehow less mentally and physically fit than them.

theres certainly something true about people on the left feeling embarrassed to say theyre voting for biden. no clue if its a statistically significant portion of undecided voters, but a lot of leftist circles are very very against the idea of voting for anyone who supports israel. which i understand. ive considered that perspective heavily myself but ultimately i just want to lower the chance of human rights being stripped away.

If Biden was literally an incontinent vegetable I’d still probably begrudgingly vote for him over another four years of trump. Or more if he decided to go full dictator and abolish term limits.

The felon is campaigning to his ultra-rich oil and industry donors on taking your future right to vote away, forever while giving unlimited deregulated consessions to the oil, gas and coal industries. This will ensure that the disastrous effect of climate change will ravage our country all at the whim of an anti-intellectual president while we are left to stir in forseeably vaster wealth inequality with zero social policies to help the masses (negative actually, Project 2025 the mandate for his presidency promotes loyalists installed in all gov't positions so no more government working for the people, and a Christian Nationalist agenda-driven PORN BAN lol). The grandpa is campaigning on holding the ultra-rich to account for price gouging by imposing stronger taxes on the upper .1% that are responsible for the massive wealth inequality currently. The tax funds are planned to increase resilience in more climate related jobs and climate industry and promoting an overall stronger focus on mitigating the damaging effects of climate change all while promoting the general welfare in the style of FDR so we're not financially underwater (pun intended). If the answer is not clear, vote for the grandpa to get us that BAG and so you and I don't have to ever worry about lead and petrochemical runoff in our water supply while hunting for water in the Water Wars lol.
