It’s really a shame SJCAM has fallen so far in recent years, the SJ4000 helped makes their name, the SJ5000 Elite showed their attention to improvements as well as the SJ6 and SJ7 Star and SJ8 Pro then it all collapsed after that. Their firmware updates are now nonexistent compared to years ago when they constantly improved their cameras performance.

SJ4K spec is same SJC100+ 2nd generation

I think most of cheap action cameras nowadays are a scam. They do not deliver what they promise. It is really hard to figure out what action camera to buy without your Michael expert advice!

Great video, I generally like to compare budget cams to Akaso V50X, I own the sister brand version the Dragon Touch Vista 5.

Both that you mention are far beter than this SJCAM.

The 4K low light footage looked better than the 4000 series in my opinion. Seemed to have a bit more detail and better colouring.

any model have better stabilizer?

i used sj3000 in 2015 in my thailand trip, did the job and im thankful

I’m still using my SJ4000 for really extreme condition, it’s still functioning quite ok but missing the OIS which can be annoying for certain situations. Sadly they didn’t really progress much in comparison to brands like Akaso.

Did not have high expectations after you mentioned a few concerns in the beginning. And i was correct. I don't mind a camera that just has good 1080p, but EIS must without question be good as well. Nice honest review Michael. (Camera should be called SJ SCAM 🤣)

so basically, the J in SJCAM is silent. Got it! :D

I believe i had the previous model of 2018 i think it came with a lot of accessories i used it for mtb and the camera is ok but it cannot go pass 30 fps only 60 and 4k is bs no such thing looks no different than 1080p so ok for biking not necessarily trips or anything.

Yep! I had an sj7 star for years and used it as my sole camera for my motovlogs. It was good enough but leaves you wanting. Bugs here and there. Hangs on me and does not read my card at times. Don't mention the app. 😄

I miss these good times with really awesome action cameras...

Same with ThiEYE. The T5/T5e was very good for its time. The T5 Pro, though touch screen was good, the colour grading, EIS etc not so good. No action cameras over the last few years since T5Pro and i60+. Most old f/w T5e etc all deleted too.

Considering the SJ4K is around AUD $100 and SJ10 Pro is AUD $320 seems a red flag. Have also seen it advertised as "underwater action camera" and vid samples were pretty good for underwater. May explain the standard vids are "reddish"? Have seen NT96675 SoC in various dashcams only.

Regarding the comment most of the mount accessories would be usefless for most - are you serious? I use the helmet mount, the bike handlebar mount, the underwater case and tripod mounts. Just sayin' while the other cameras you links in your comments are certainly excellent products they are also 6 to 8 times the price, so not a viable solution for somebody on the peanut butter budget LOL. I still thought your review was extremely well done and very much enjoyed it!

Hey, thanks for the comment! I find most cheap helmet mounts unreliable, and the bike hook - there are a lot better solutions out there. I really almost never use these accessories and so do most of my friends. But looks like you do, and this is great!

I’ve had the SJ4000 Air and it works as good as that budget 4K version. I usually use a Smooth Q Gimble for stabilization if needed. Thanks for sharing and I like your new look. (Same hairstyle as me 😁)

Akaso or Wolfang models are pretty good these days. Or try to scout for a used DJI Action 1.

i Think the other action cam that must be brought if you really are in a tight budget that cant afford the biggest company is the Akaso. or just use older model of GoPro.

SJCam used to produce interesting and good cameras in years gone by, but this 2022 revisit of the SJ4000 is pretty pathetic, especially because they had to resort to scamming people into thinking its a 4K camera. Bah!

i think it just repacked of the old version. it becaming sad now

ik the SJ Cam is less good than gopro but im getting one and ik its gonna be good

Wow Michael hahaha, man this style of action camera takes me back to 2016, looks like somthing you'd buy from Wish 😆 EIS that's really non existant and fake resolutions. Great Honest review. I was surprised to hear they disappointed you on your giveaway back then.. what a terrible company!

How about other low cost 4k or close action cameras? Say underc$150.00 US or so. Suggesting $400.00 alternatives is not in the same vein.

Has anyone figured out how to connect the SJ4K Cam to the iPhone because mine will not connect to my phone.

Better ask SJcams support for help. Try to connect manually to the Wifi of the camera.

SJ4K uesd chipset same #SJ8DualScreen , also same SJC100+ #SJ100Plus 2nd generation has eis but not good

I have Sj400X - this is the worst product that i ever bought. Each battery replacement results in a factory reset and view angles are for sure not as described.
