To me SJCam has really lost their way. This camera has a low end 4MP image sensor (not real 4K). 40MP too for stills? That's an outrageous claim. At least the color balance is good and the 1080p is sharp. Reminds me of the old SJ4000 wifi series which were great cams at the time. Sadly this one doesn't innovate and seems to be kind of misleading. Thanks for the review, your samples were incredibly helpful.

Wayne, it seems it's video image quality is excellent but with no EIS and poor audio capabilities this could only be best used for a B-roll 2nd camera on a tripod set-up. As a cyclist on KZread I'm looking for an extra budget cam but it needs EIS! Also thank you for showing us 12:47 that it actually has a 'working' wifi app. Most other reviewers ignore checking a cams wifi app even after requesting them to. SJCam, how about ~$52 not $67 for this.

I agree, a good action camera should have a good EIS, after all "action" implies movement, but like you said..a great tripod (or gimbal) mounted 'B' roll camera for sure!

Wow, the fisheye! It seemed like there are some audio sync issues. I would be interested to see their 6K model.

Yes indeed, this lens really does exhibit the ultra-wide fisheye effect. If you like that look - great. I am not a big fan of that look as it tends to distort and curve the edge of the video frame, and unfortunately this camera does NOT have a 'distortion correction' function. This is their basic model, and hopefully I will be able to review some of their better equipped units in the future.

How is the image stabilization on this? Looking to convert it for a night vision camera

The image stabilization is crap! Watch the review @ 11:56 and you’ll see,

On my 75 inch tv I can see little difference between 720 and 4k video. They all look good. I wonder if your uploading in 1080 makes a difference. But poor sound no EIS, no buy.

why is the battery so low? any cheap phone has 3 or 4 times the capacity

We’ll, probably because this is a basic, no frills camera. This size/capacity battery is very common in these ‘entry level’ action cameras.

No, this camera will NOT allow you to zoom while recording.

They call it SJ4K but is it actually capable of delivering genuine 4K? I doubt it. The original SJ4000 was at its time (years ago!) a very nice camera, but this poorly executed revisit of it makes you really question what SJCam is doing, as all their latest actioncams are lacking substance.

I agree. The so-called 4K is obviously achieved through software interpolation. Don’t expect true 4K from this camera, stick with the 1080 or 2.7K for best results.
