Growing up in Christianity, the William Blake quote: "If the fool would persist in his folly, he would become wise" was cited as a warning. Framing the occult as a way to obliterate moral responsibility. But all the right hand/left hand, light/dark polarities imply a middle way that leads to health & balance.

In my opinion the left hand path is different in that it strengthens the subjective experience and self toward self deification and seeks continued existance. The right hand path seeks to end the not just the subjective self but also the desire to be conscious at all as it sees the desire to experience as the cause for suffering, thereby they seek to merge with the primordial no-thing-ness and end consciousness itself to attain "heaven" "nirohda" etc and end not just reincarnation but conscious experience itself. A sort of spiritual suicide in a sense being seen as the way through which one ends suffering. The left hand path and self deification is the path of continued reincarnation rather than disolution and the use of such to evolve further and become more divine. In my eyes the two don't lead the same place at all and they deal with consciousness differently, one seeks to evolve it until it becomes spiritually emancipated, the other seeks to end all experience at the root by ending the cause of consciousness itself, the desire to experience anything at all, not just the ego. In my opinion The universe is like a God factory or an oak tree which bears acorns and the acorns can either mature fully and develop a strong shell which they can use to survive the journey and roll off to fertile soil after they fall off, or they can weaken and not mature enough and instead return to the soil and become dust which feeds the tree once more, with no trace of it. The left hand path is that which seeks to become a tree itself and express that full potential, the right hand path is the way ofdissolution of that potential and regressing. For me the middle path is to take one step forward and one step backwards you stand in the same place instead of mastering one or the other.

Antinomianism in the occult context refers to the rejection or transcendence of traditional moral laws and societal norms as a path to spiritual enlightenment or magical power. Here's a deeper dive into its role and manifestations in the occult: 1. **Rejection of Conventional Morality**: In many occult practices, antinomianism is expressed as a deliberate departure from mainstream religious and ethical standards. This can involve embracing behaviors or beliefs that are considered taboo or forbidden in conventional society, as a means of challenging perceived limitations and exploring deeper spiritual truths. 2. **Pursuit of Individualism**: Occult antinomianism often emphasizes personal spiritual experience over collective doctrine. Practitioners may believe that true enlightenment or magical ability comes from personal exploration and direct experience, rather than adhering to externally imposed rules or norms. 3. **Symbolic Acts**: In some occult traditions, antinomian practices might be symbolic, used in rituals or magical workings as a representation of breaking free from perceived spiritual or psychological constraints. These acts can be metaphorical in nature, intended to signify inner transformation or liberation. 4. **Left-Hand Path Traditions**: Antinomianism is particularly prevalent in what are known as Left-Hand Path traditions within the occult. These paths often focus on the affirmation of the self, the pursuit of personal power, and the questioning of conventional moral and spiritual authority. They may use antinomian principles as a way to emphasize the empowerment of the individual practitioner. 5. **Alchemy and Mysticism**: In alchemical and mystical traditions, antinomianism can be a metaphor for the alchemical process itself - the idea of transgressing and transcending the ordinary to reach a higher state of being. This might involve a symbolic rejection of societal norms as part of a deeper spiritual quest. 6. **Ethical Considerations**: While antinomianism in the occult can be about challenging norms to seek higher truths, it's also important to note that this doesn't necessarily equate to unethical behavior. Many practitioners interpret antinomian principles more as a personal spiritual journey rather than a literal rejection of all moral codes. In summary, antinomianism in the occult is about challenging conventional beliefs and norms as a path to spiritual insight, personal empowerment, and transcendence. It's a complex and varied concept, with its expressions and interpretations differing widely among various occult traditions.😅

Using the Tree of life as our universe mapping and In it's simplest form, I see left hand path workings to be working with the qliphothic spheres, and right hand path is more dayside sephiroth spheres , and everything else is leaning to one side or the other. EX.- in the system of Voudon, some of the Loa would exist on dayside, some nightside, depending on their nature. In Reality all Magick is completely neutral, and more easily defined by the intent of the Magician.....a sword is neither good or bad, depends on why your swinging it.

For anyone curious about Hindu LHP, I highly recommend the book Aghora: at the Left Hand of God by Dr. Robert Svaboda. I always though LHP was for me but some of the stuff in that book really challenged that belief. There are some very helpful ideas, especially seeing what the far end of the LHP looks like, but the practical aspect of Aghora (a = not, ghora = terrible) is a) quite difficult , b) quite dangerous if not performed properly or without the guidance of a teacher, and c) just gross. Not to get too explicit, but rituals/practices involving consumption of poisons, feces, and corpses (not simultaneously, thankfully) are not uncommon for those practitioners

The way I see it is like the right hand is the big religious movements. The consciousness of Jesus is distributed among his people. It’s also the consciousness of the masses. It represents a more simple interpretation. It’s like the masses and it’s democratic and merit based, the spirit that comes from the masses represents the spirit of Christ, like his followers and friends are his body and temple. The left hand path is more like an individual path. It’s meant to be sort of hidden and not compete with the right hand, but at some points the right and left come together. They feed into each other. The left protects the right, and the right shelters the left. The left changes and evolves the genes, and the right is like the womb and also a devouring mother, when the left becomes arrogant and evil. Yet the left is neither good or evil, nor is the right, as humans together are the rulers and caretakers of earth, and can really have whatever they desire to be real. The left and right appear different but are part of one body. The collective mind of god that lives in spirit, and represents all life on earth, human and natural. Humans aren’t suppose to be perfect, like perfectly light or dark, we are an image of the one and all things exist inside of us. Humans have both the light and dark and live between heaven and hell in the real and now. The humans who are closest to god are like two fish swimming away from each other yet coming into balance. They don’t judge or divide but grow into themselves, and become beings of live neither putting away the darkness or putting it in completely. God has no gender or distinction or specific path. He just exists and all things come from him and go back into him. Humans are gods in this way as we all do this individually and collectively. Many people should take the right hand path and just enjoy their lives, and people should be allowed to take the left hand path, and express the dark side of the human soul, which is truth and is powerful and freeing, and it orders a chaotic universe around truth. People should be judged by what they produce honestly. If you take the left hand path and produce life instead of death, then the right hand will make it into spirit and it will integrate into the human soul. The main benefit to the left is freedom and self expression and being powerful, but it has to be tempered by a love for humanity. God doesn’t punish people for being left, but he holds them to a higher standard. That’s why people who aren’t drawn to it shouldn’t really be in it. Most people are perfectly happy being normal, but some people are just different and have a different purpose. You should also learn a bit about why god brings destruction to earth sometimes, and why apocalypses happen, and why some forms of magic are a bit too much for people sometimes. God doesn’t care if you create religions or have cults or do witchcraft. In fact, he admires it sometimes and enjoys watching it, and god also protects some people on the left as well. The thing is, you have to let humanity collectively choose what they will and will not tolerate, and the right hand is molded by the spirit amongst the masses, where the left hand is molded by the individuals. They can exist together. That’s why you need complete freedom of religion, and complete freedom of speech. Society can evolve like this and humans can become more beautiful and loving of each other. Religion only becomes important when the apocalypse is near. Most of the time it’s spirituality and culture that are more important. God feeds off of culture and love and consciousness the same way we feed off of nature. We are like cells in a giant body. Memes and words are genes and metabolism. All life on Earth lives in harmony with nature, and all the stars live in harmony with each other. The forest is infinite and it is everlasting life. You don’t have to annihilate yourself either. God has never demanded that people give up their own selves for him. It’s perfectly fine for people to be different, and homogenization of society hurts more then helps anything. These ideas that people have to pretend to be something they are not is not an idea from god but a corruption of true spirituality.

The substance use thing is actually an interesting point. A lot of blatant (Western) LHP books I have actually discourage the use of drugs in ritual because it "is hard to tell if the experience is from yourself or the drug". While a lot of "Love & Light" type folks love beer and weed. Drugs aren't forbidden in the LHP by any means but the majority of practitioners of the LHP I've talked to either use the occult to help them with their addictions, or have no interest in anything stronger than weed (if they even do take weed or alcohol). The thought of the annihilation vs apotheosis thing haven't even crossed my mind. (I'm an ex-Satanist, and currently a Luciferian Pagan influenced by Tantra). Nice video, you make a lot of good points on this topic.

Right hand/left hand is not a false dichotomy. It's a paradoxical dichotomy: Left is, ultimately, annihilation of rules and elevation of a self (that doesn't exist.) Right is enforcement of rules, subjugating the self to the supreme being (truth.) But rules are necessary for existence, hence why the left will always need some form of rules, and why a seeming gradient is born, where we say that there's a middle way. However, each decision and each statement is either wrong or right. I'm sure it's clear to everyone where I'm coming from. But is my reasoning heard? Also, if anyone disagrees, let's do a pull-up challenge to settle the dispute. It'll be fun. Ps: great vid.

I'm impressed with your take on the left versus right hand path. That's exactly the way that I see it. The original meaning of the left hand path refers to a Hindu tantrika who walks the path of using the transgressive elements of the panchatattva ritual in their literal sense. Treading the left hand path meant you were an animal-like aspirant. It meant you weren't ready to get on with the sadhana of a heroic-like or divine-like aspirant because you are still caught up in trying to satisfy worldly desires. Then western occultists took that term and used it to mean something else entirely. In terms of western mysticism, this is my own interpretation of the LHP/RHP that I have found helpful: The left hand path represents the path of severity and disciple. The RHP represents mercy and acceptance. When the LHP is unbalanced it leads to unnecessary austerity and you run the risk of repressing the energy of desire and developing an aversion to the energy of temptation. A perfect example would be Siddhartha Gautama during his austerity phase where he only ate one grain of rice per day because eating more than that would spark more energy in him and thus more temptations. The RHP, when unbalanced leads to excessive acceptance and leniency to the extent that you forget that you are here to do spiritual sadhana and you respond to your insatiable desires by indulging in them. A perfect example of this would be Siddhartha Gautama during his phase of indulging in all the luxuries of a spoiled prince: sex, drugs and rock and roll. And so the LHP and RHP are reactionary responses to one another. The middle path (or the proper balance of the R and L) is understood when you try to understand the proper application of effort versus acceptance in your meditation practice. Aversion and indulgence, discipline and acceptance, slowly turn into equanimity. Ultimately the goal for any path is transformation of the energy of desire within oneself into virtue, fearlessness, and eventually union with the Divine will. That is the ultimate goal of the kabbalist and occultist. Anything less and you will just prolong your suffering and that of those around you because you are still looking to satisfy the desires of your personal will.

The apotheosis/annihilation dichotomy is more indicative of the difference between magic and mysticism. Both right-handed and left-handed practitioners can seek either apotheosis or annihilation, or annihilation as a means of rebirth into a divinized state, i.e. apotheosis. The emphasis of LHP tends to be on antinomianism, individuality, and darker aspects of reality, but the RHP/LHP categories are not always clearly delineated in practice

I think you got the closest to a useable heuristic when you stripped the concept back to Apotheosis and Annihilation. You also use the term Dichotomy- meaning two variations that spring from the same source. Branches from the same tree. So, as a useful analogy, the tree is seeking attainment - in this case, union with the divine. To take this perspective with regard to Apotheosis/ Annihilation we need to consider what is being acted upon in each path. It's an easy thing to see that the subject of these paths is the Ego. (Let's be clear about what Ego means here: Ego is the sense of one's self as a discrete, separate entity. It is the part of our consciousness that says, "I is not the same as we or thee." Ego is not our entire self. It's merely a specific aspect of it. In this way, the Ego is a barrier to any form of unity.) So, if Ego is the obstacle, the barrier to union with the divine, how are we to overcome it? How does one convince another that the Earth is not flat? To paraphrase Alan Watts, one would take that person and have them travel along a single line of Latitude until they returned to where they began, at least then proving that the Earth is cylindrical. This method forces the Ego to refine itself to perfection. To make the Ego operate fully and perfectly - no, it doesn't in our everyday consciousness - is to elevate the internal sense of separateness to its natural paradox; whatever the contra of reductio ad absurdum is. This is Apotheosis- elevating the Ego until it cancels itself in its own power. Whereas Annihilation - colloquially the Left Hand Path - is to engage in activity that diminishes the Ego until it disappears. In the case of Taboo, one must engage in acts and thoughts that are repulsive to one's self - whether or not they transgress against the wider culture or society is irrelevant - they must be Ego-diminishing to one's self. (Lots of layers in that last sentence. Completely unintentional, but hey, there are no accidents.) It is through repeated, thoughtful, purposeful injury to the Ego that we come to realize it never existed in the first place. Which is more useful to any individual practitioner? Only that individual can say. It Can be true that someone with an already diminished sense of self would benefit from the Left Hand path, but it could also be true that they might benefit more from the Right Hand path. The same is true for an individual possessed of an inflated sense of self. In this, I don't think we can set a guideline as to which path works best with what initial condition. The only guide one could reasonably trust is the feeling inside one's self. Do you feel a connection to a set of practices? Does a particular tableau resonate with you? What types of scenarios continue to manifest in your life? To be aware of these things is to remove the internal conflict over the matter. One will always be drawn in the direction one needs to go in. The only question is whether or not one will follow the feel of that pull. (Which strikes me as a good, rough & ready definition for the action of one's True Will, but that's another useless KZread comment.) And I'm fairly certain no one's going to read this long-assed comment, but it felt right to submit it.

4:00 for me, apotheosis starts with realizing what you are in as many contexts as possible, aligning with as many Selves as possible, and then enabling yourself to embody them. I haven't achieved this yet. My relationship with the Aesir, Vanir, and Jotun is more along the lines of tutelage. It's no longer worship, but study because if I'm going to do a thing, I want advice from those who've done it.

i'm a lilithian who is also involved in enochian. i don't see this as a conflict usually because none of these entities are "good or "bad," just different. however, I'm about to undertake a revised version of the abramelin ritual. usually i would steer away from solomonic traditions nd practices that cite everything to be under the power of god- i', more into demonoltry than reigning them in through the goetia. i want to undergo the ritual to contact my hga so that i can reconnect with my self and true path. however this does of course seem gnostic to a fault and i'm worried about the conflict in philosophy with working in demolatry. I'm of the understanding that in order to be a god, you have to have the values of one, and that would explain taking the humble approach in the abramelin ritual. any thoughts? do you think i can harmonize the gnostic nature of the abramelin ritual and the philosophy of embracing your dark side and coming into your own power in demonolatry?

What is The Crooked Path? What does it mean in its most basic terms?

  • @stormgazer418

The distinction is very simple. Do you aim to drain all of yourself into the Cup of Babalon and lose your Self to the Infinite Bliss of Nuit and in the process obliterate yourself? If so you are on the Right Hand Path. But if you choose to preserve your Self against such obliteration into the Other, shunning Love in the process? Then you walk the Left Hand Path. You missed a crucial part of the formula of the Left Hand Path, however. The Self can sacrifice to itself in exchange for knowledge and power, instead of sacrificing to an Other. Odin wounding himself and hanging from Yggdrasil for nine nights to win the Runes is an example of this. Giving up who one is in order to become something greater is the process of all Initiation, but the difference is in whether the Self conforms to an externally imposed model (RHP) or an internally intuited and apprehended one (LHP). Love your channel btw. Keep up the Work.

I would reckon that "apotheosis" is the true avenue towards ascension. The ego is no different than our physical bodies, something that should be respected but ultimately sublimated towards our true, conscious, will. Apotheosis needn't be viewed as the exaltation of the ego but rather the transmutation of it towards something divine. The extent to which we succeed in sublimating the ego will reflect the virtue that our actions, magical included, have. I think the connotation for black magic being sinister and base is due to the egocentric ideals that the typical black magician has. As you stated, it is more difficult to connect with higher beings such as Angels, this being because the sublimation of ego is a necessity in doing so.
