Surviving Witchcraft: A Left Hand Path Approach

The mode of thinking of a Left Hand Path, which is often focused on individual experience and self-reliance, can be a useful approach to survive solitary work within Witchcraft.

I have lived a very long time on this earth and in all that time I have been involved in the world of the occult. Let me say that no two left hand path covens or right hand covens are the same , there are many left hand covens that have rules and regulations as well as right hand and many have those that must be abeyed . I worked for a very long time with a coven we worked in covensteads in woods in caves on beaches any place that we felt the power may work, however after some time I had to go it alone as I often felt that i was in a kind of theatre and could not throw myself totally into my work , I am not saying that the others were acting only that to me it felt like it ... To work alone you are your own judge on what is right or wrong , you face your demons in your own way and accept the results of your work .. It is a very lonely path and yes you are judged as being selfish and not wanting to mix as your path takes almost all of your time and energy but it is the path i have chosen and with all the pain and pitfalls I would not want any other . thank you Arith for your wise words and may the work go on .

Thank you for your feedback my dear friend :D there are still many years to come and to learn. Hopefully, with all the knowledge to gather, we can overcome the difficulties of each turn of the cycle and help in- at least- make this world more habitable for us all. Solitary work should be more validated because many people have no other choice but to work alone and do things on their own, because many times that's the only way to understand what is going on in our minds and express all the thoughts in a way that can be physically manifested into the world. For instance, I see many "Facebook Shamans", and all these groups of people gathering around to do "shamanism", and in my opinion that is a little bit demotivating because people are not giving the proper value and respect for shamanism itself, nor the actual few shamans existing nowadays. I do get that people want to gather around and do stuff, and they may have the best of reasons, however, looking at both historical shamanism and today's living-shamans, it's quite solitary (in terms of being social and having a social life) and it has to be like that, there's no other choice. To be a shaman is something I would not want to be nor would I wish it upon another. I do think it is important that people interiorise this so in the future we can have more people actually doing this type of work for the sake of the world and all life. Awful self-sacrifices that must be understood and must be properly respected and we must be greatful for. I don't think this all business of online-shamanism is the proper way to be respectful and to be greatful towards such people. This is just one exemple. Thank you my dear friend, once again. Have a great day!

@ the need to belong is very strong in humans however i have never felt that need , and many will jump on the newest fad like shamanism as it makes them feel special and i agree it is disrespectful to true shamans . On the good side at least it is giving them a greater awareness of nature . Stay strong my very dear friend and may the work go on :)

I feel that way too. As an individual or as a family, I can make it work for me. I don’t mind participating in communities for events and here and there, but I don’t like the “cult” atmosphere as part of my regular practice. Having other peoples ideas for what’s right shoved down my throat rages against my experience as a spirit-worker given direct insight through dreams and intuition by my spirit guides.

This time we are living through right now, is the back end of a vicious witch hunt, and obliteration of all arcane and occult knowledge, spanning 100s if not 1000s of years. Real lore, mythology, and magical practises, have either been destroyed or have been forced to move underground off the radar, in order to protect and preserve traditional wisdom. So discovering within yourself that you have an interest for esoterics and magic, but not really sure why. Or remembering past lifes, whereby you lived the life of a druid or a pagan, can become very disheartening at first, when you try to reach out to people of like mind, or try to research such subjects, and realise that we are still in the middle of a huge cover up, and deliberate distraction from reality. So what do you do? It inspires you to dig deeper into your self, and go it alone. Discovering real wisdom is very difficult, but can be done with persistence. And crafting up your own custom designed rituals and tailored made practises, by infusing whatever wisdom you can learn with your own personal take from within your ancient soul signature, can be fun and invigorating. It can get lonely. But when out in the woods, by a local stone circle, that you have brought trinkets to. To pay tribute and homage to the Fae beings, and ancient spirits. The huge sense of protection and innate ancient wisdom and connection you are surrounded by, is very very comforting. So all of a sudden it all seems worth it. And you get a sense why it all had to be this way, in order for the true magicians walking amongst us, to remember who we are, and find our own way, on the path back to reality. In order to reconnect properly back to our heart space, and back to our ancient roots. As long as I know there are more out there like me, going it alone, and pushing through, back to the enchanted forest. Then that gives me peace of mind. For I have realised now that, in this lifetime, I may never meet my kind in the flesh and blood, face to face. But when we all make it back to the clearing in the magical woods. We will all be together again. Happy travels my fellow elves, wizards, magicians, dragons, and witches. Ill see you in the forest 😊

Everybody has their own path to follow hence, the solitary journey of a witch. I have found that the universe, for lack of a better word at the moment, has put particular people on my path that we’re supposed to know my path and or who added to my experience. There is nothing about my appearance that says witch but I recently had the experience whereby a girl at work that I felt was a little other worldly, asked me a question about a goddess. I told her what I knew and she said, I knew you would know. We sensed each other. You don’t have to force people into your life or craft. Let go and let nature.

When I first dabbled in witchcraft back around 2005. I didn't really know what I was doing. I attempted a wealth attraction ritual for the benefit of my local pagan/magick shop because they were falling on hard times. I thought I knew what I was doing, but shortly thereafter my parents who only just found out I was practicing started reporting strange occurrences in the house. Mom saw kind of a cloudy brown mist behind her in the mirror of her bedroom one day. Another day, she turned the corner and looked up the stairs to see an unfamiliar child looking down at her and upon being noticed turned and ran up the stairs and disappeared. My little brother started having night terrors and started talking about the "bad ghost with the square head"...he was only 3 at the time. Had to lean on some much more experienced folks to close whatever I had opened...eventually, those occurrences stopped.

You are always so insightful. I completely agree. I have recently decided to join a discord from another KZreadr that has a lot of videos on the history and different styles of the craft. She seems very inclusive and progressive so I thought I would give it a try. I ended up soooo disappointed in the mods, and because of this was very quickly reminded why I am a solo practitioner. It was actually because I posted a couple videos you made. Some one was asking about Nordic symbols, and I was trying to be helpful. The moss and other members literally verbally attacked me. They claimed you are a neo-nazi. Siting your Twitter post after the George Floyd incident. It was ridiculous! Since I have left the Discord channel. I don’t understand how people can talk about something as if it is a fact when don’t know anything about the facts.

Arith must be doing something right, considering the accusations and judgements that get tossed his way 😉. I've heard of the neo-nazi/supremacist accusations, just as I've heard others call him "too woke" and accuse him of appeasing the angry mob. I've come to realize that objective, rational individualistic thinkers are not meant to group together. Sure, we can float around like butterflies, sharing in the same nectar from the wildflowers, but it has become clearer every day (I'll be turning 42 this month) that it must be that way. There is something special about that - dare I say, sacred... Those of us on individualistic paths may only pass each other as ships in the night, but whatever we happen to share during these passing moments is valuable - often full of warmth and wisdom. Difficult? Sure, sometimes... But we're able to see and explore so much more than a fleet of ships moored together. Speaking of butterflies, here's a Muhammad Ali quote: “People run in packs because they don’t feel safe alone. I run alone because I don’t feel safe in packs.”

A well-balanced perspective - much appreciated! I've come to view the dualisms of life as complementary opposites - each brings context and meaning to the other. Chaos and order are the objetive terms, though we often apply subjective labels like "evil" and "good." I believe the Left- and Right-hand paths serve respective purposes, and to concentrate on one over the other is to obscure half the picture. Some will naturally gravitate to one or the other, but it's good to maintain a balance, in my view.

I have never desired witchcraft … that said, as a child I would hide notes - or wishes - etc in walls or in the ground even the nooks of trees and they would manifest in some form. No one told me this. I did it instinctively. It worked. So I continued in life. But … sometimes to seek attachment or to seek what is not yet my right to seek manifests the result with some regret of the outcome. There must be faith that I am not alone - I just can’t see my double. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have not named anything I have been doing as witchcraft, or left or right hand path. But I have been developing my own path and have instead thought of it as shadow work. From your definitions I am following a left-hand path. My individual experiences have been a path for me of healing and understanding and exploration, as you say of ourselves. Especially when coming out of oppressive religion. I have often begun to move towards groups, but always end up feeling a strong 'check' in my being that I should not go there. It is my belief that I may communicate with all that is w/o 3rd party even though I am willing to listen and learn from folks such as yoruself. But in the end, I am very left-hand in my way of being.

I have never been particularly impressed with alot of what I hear in various social media groups and websites especially about left hand path. I hear so often the words good and evil tossed around and all the gatekeeping and what should and should not be done. Eventually I just started following my own instincts as far as what to learn and how to increase my knowledge, and how to help myself achieve my goals as well as help others that ask me for assistance or advice, and although I have met guides and teachers along my journey, I am a solitary witch who follows the left hand path. I wish more would educate themselves and see it for what it is instead of being judgmental and narrow minded. Thank you!

I knew a Grandmother , who was tasked with / assumed the position of having to learn both right or left types ( "positive or negative" types) of craft . This was a station she took on for a few different reasons . One being , as a way to be aware /recognizing if her community was beset with harmful craft . And then know what to do to counter appropriately. She asks helped keep the balance in her area in general. Also as others passed away in community, (either Positive or negative aligned people) items of magical use where brought to her to keep them carefully . As I was told , it would take training to do this . And to keep them getting into unknowing hands , least harm come with it . So as this was an old Pa Deitch lineage community . The regular folks held her as important, but many kept her at arms length . Because they were of course geared towards belief of right hand is only good .

Everyone has different life experiences and they tend to show us what kind of path works best for each of us individually. There was a time I was invited to join a coven and at first it was very engaging until I discovered the internal social power dynamic and restrictive rules being passed down to its members. Mind you I came to it as a solitaire with certain knowledge and skill sets rather well developed in comparison to the other members. I had no real restrictive labeling as RHP or LHP just my own moral code and well developed empathy. I guess I was just a LHP falling in with a coven of RHP practioners. End result I was asked to leave the coven, a week later it disbanded with a few members permanently relocating several hours away. One of the members who I stayed in contact with was moving to another state and asked if I'd help him pack. His room mate had already moved out and left the packing to him, his room mate was the leader of that particular coven. As it happens I discovered their binding spell they tried to do on me while boxing up his personal items. Never have I ever laughed so hard in all my life. Been solitaire ever since. TLDR, this subject hit on a very developmental point in my life and I just felt I needed to share my own experiences.

I refused to submit to doing Magick specifically ONLY when the entire coven was present. I argued that it was a way of life and I no more could avoid it then I could breathing. In fact I daresay at the time I often performed more Magick outside the coven then whenever we actually gathered together. It puts a smile on my face to hear yourself, 20 years later, stating exactly the same thing I tried to explain to them before they expelled me.

@@witchcandy3671 Thank you for sharing this story. I have experienced something very similar. I was once in a coven and am now a solitary. It was the best decision of my life. I also have to say that I find the idea of members of your own coven using a binding spell against you is quite absurd...

Many thanks for this lucid and balanced presentation. I find myself in large agreement with all you say here. As with all forms of mysticism I know of, ''the flight of the alone to the alone'' is AT BEST only partly helped by reference to the footsteps and maps of those who have gone before. ''Following'' tradition, ritual, or exemplars can of course provide solid launch-pads, but beyond a certain point (exit velocity) ''following'' and group work merges with discipleship - which ironiclly enough, is usually detrimental to self-discipline!. As you say at 25 mins, METHODS are the key... flexible methods, personally crafted and adapted by practical usage to to one's own ''body'/mind/spirit'' - and its specific circumstances. Otherwise, it is as risky as following a training-and-diet regime for a long distance runner when one is a power-lifter, or vice versa. Methods are never 'universal' or definitivey ''good'' or ''bad'' - their value is woven in with one's aims, one's physiology, one's entire life. It is wonderful to hear that ''solitary walkers' like yourself have things to say which resonate with my own explorations! Again, many thanks.

Even the most righthanded path serves some need or purpose of the self. Even if that's a need to feel noble or do good, using the forces of the universe to alter reality is a its least, a serving of the Ego needs of the practitioner. Being open minded as a solitary, is one of the best ways to learn from others. And if they cannot use spirit, or their gifts, it will be obvious. If they can, something can be gained in knowledge. For example, Summoning uses the same skills for compulsion and use of spirits, as the banisishing and clearing of them. You cant learn one without knowing the other. The methods aren't evil, but a practitioner can be, and can use positive magic for evil.

I am not experienced or knowledgeable on the topic, but I was under the impression that the 'right hand path' was suited for those who's world view leaned towards more of a reliance on the 'universe' and/or the spirits residing therein and the left hand path was more suited for those who's worldview leaned toward more of a reliance on self......and embarking on either path would push the individual's worldview in the other direction. Thus, the individual pre-disposed towards a reliance on self, would develop the awareness of the universe's influence thru it's experiences on that path....and vice versa. Both path's would be uncomfortable as a major shift in one's worldview is a jarring but necessary step towards evolving from a dualistic mindset. It is hard to say which path is harder, but clearly the left dallies more in areas of moral preconditioning. But, the right, done properly would not rely on groups, but self and building self reliance or the awareness of one's power. I have no foundation to opine on the subject and am only theorizing in hopes to understand or learn. But thanks Arith...none of your: advice is little, comments simple, or posts brief....but I think that is what we dig about you! (Also, FYI,,,,you CAN choose who you love...it too, is not comfortable, but it is do-able) Cheers!

I like to say that the Right Hand Path grows the garden. The Left Hand Path prunes the garden. But this doesn't mean that the RHP doesn't do a bit of its own pruning or that the LHP doesn't do some growing of its own.

Thank you! Working as a solitary witch I seldome get to express theese kinds of things to and with others. (Most practitioners around me are wiccans, in covens and I don’t practice as they do and they have a tendency to be abit sceptical of what I say just for the fact I don’t practice like them, no matter what I actually say). So to suddanly hear someone express what I have been thinking, feels so strange! 😄 So Thank you!! I found myself saying ”Exactely!” and ”Just so!” a few more times then I would like to admit 🫣😂 Again … Thank you! This made me feel like it’s a little easier to breath again and not feeling like a strange deviant, that should not bother others (for their sake). There is at least one person out there that thinks the same as I do. 💪🏻😁👍🏻

I think I'm more left hand path than left hand path I'm create your own path I was agnostic until I had several powerful encounters with spiritual entities. One gifted me with the knowledge of sorcery. I'm very thankful for that. I named my Channel after it. I've been practicing sorcery since I was a teenager. I don't really go in for a bunch of rules and whatnot. I go for learning how to be more powerful at sorcery and using it to do what you need to do. I'm pretty sure I'm a natural-born sorcerer my great-grandmother was a Native American witch. I also have presidential and Royal ancestors and we know they like occult stuff. The very concept of one God is just to remove your own Divinity. We are all gods in the making. I kind of feel like the material realm is a trap and that includes reincarnation we keep getting brought back here, we have to break out of that cycle to reach godhood.

Fortunately a lot of the insight and evolution of whatever the craft is now a days only happens after being receptive to said progress keeping knowledge from others is wrong but there are people who should simply not have it as they’d try to rule the world or hurt others based of petty reasons and thankfully those secrets guard themselves not even those who run the world economically politically whatever know of those things if they did they wouldn’t need all that which they do need but there are also good people everywhere even in those spaces so no hate there

Part of me is always curious to learn these things, maybe so that I can learn something to improve my own life, but also to maybe learn something to help others, but so far I find these videos difficult to grasp. It feels a lot like the old "Chaos vs Order" in Moorcocks works with Left vs Right wing ideas, that people really are somewhere in between and only occassionally lean heavier into one or the other, but I have no clue where to begin or what to go for. Searching for "Witchcraft" is just as likely to bring up neopagan crystal salespeople.

It’s deeply spiritual and hard to put into words, kinda almost impossible to understand without personal experience. I think a social media account like this one is a good learning resource to start. All I can be sure is that the spiritual training itself is the most important and those selling weird stuff are just nonsense most of the time 😂

So correct me if I'm wrong, left hand path sounds a lot like a Nietzsche approach of philosophy, while right hand sounds more like Marcus Aurelius... Killing god to become a god yourself vs. working on your virtues so society can benefit from it. Surely there have to be a lot of 'gray' areas as well, a pure separation (just from my guts) doesn't look healthy :D

The term "Witch" has become genderless over the years. But I must say I have noticed that the English language in such aspects lacks more specific terms that exist in other languages, and using English for this video I have found that particular difficult point (which doesn't happen in my own language) of using a term that can encompass all genders. In the end, it had to be Witch.
