    The way I've thought about it is that Drake, Cole, and Kendrick all occupy different roles in the image of current hip hop. Drake is the body because he is more commercially successful and has more songs that you can dance too and feel on a physical level more than the other two. Cole is the spirit of hip hop because he makes song that you can connect to and relate to on a more personal and human level more than the other two. Kendrick is the mind of hip hop because when you put on a Kendrick Lamar album you go into it expecting to come out with new thoughts and ideas and he makes you think more than the other two artists.

    I know this may not be popular opinion but for most of us who are not from the hood and neither grew up rich, J Cole is #1 as he is more relatable. He really is the middle child between Kendrick and Drake. His subject matter ain’t as gritty as Kendrick’s or as flashy as Drake’s, he seems to be the perfect equilibrium. Also, don’t forget that he went triple platinum with no features: 2014FHD

    Some people say I’m running third ( small forward ) , they threw the bronze at me (Lebron) People say it’s Jordan , Kobe then Bron but at the end of the day it’s subjective. He’s giving them their flowers , staying true to what he said on FHD - note to self , (thus adding to the imagery in the middle child video where he talks about drizzy , there’s a shot of loyalty tattooed on a girls foot who is in the morgue - loyalty is dead ) Then proceeds to call himself the best because you can respect others while calling yourself the goat ; look at Eminem and Jay. The people who think Cole is “not as deep as Kendrick “ in my opinion though don’t look hard enough into his content ; things that include his production changes as the album progresses , hidden bars and messages all over his catalogue (not just the surface level stuff) , not to mention his story telling ability and multiple flow changes. Crazy how some of his verses can be taken in multiple ways but people dont look hard enough and just discredit him . Cole gets the endorsement stamp from Nas , Em , Jay , Jada & Styles , Big daddy Kane , Gang star , Rakim , etc for a reason , he’s solidified. It’s like comparing Jay , Em and Nas , to each his own . Personally I choose Cole.

    I agree with Ant, Cole is at that point of his career where he doesn’t have to confirm that he’s the best. No matter how big you are, if your artistry is at Kendrick’s, Cole’s, or Drake’s level, you’re always gonna have that mentality to call yourself the best. The difference is when Cole links with an artist with that mentality, instead of debating about it, he humbles himself and he gets the same response from them. I don’t think Heaven’s EP was a conclusion to where he is now, but rather letting us know where people place him at. When you listen to the song, you’ll notice he never agreed with that placement, he just said yea those two are superstars😂, and that’s what I love about J. Cole

    J. Cole is actually #1 IMO if I had to rank them. The reason why is because I can honestly relate to him more than the other 2 and with every song that he puts out he hits me very deeply. Then I would say Kendrick comes second simply because I respect his lyricism and how with each album in his discography he has a different approach but they still somehow and someway seem to connect to each other and then Drake is obviously 3rd. I like Drizzy because he makes consistent radio bangers and has been dominating in that lane for 10 yrs plus and he can definitely spit, but to me his lyrics doesn’t hit as hard as Cole & Kendricks.

    Anthony, Luca I love the content and consistency from you guys I’ve been rocking pretty consistently for the past few months and I know this was per patreon users requests so you guys have to stand behind certain points and I know you guys both respect and show love to all 3 artists and their crafts so I won’t get you guys Jammed up but I wanted to pick on a few things I noticed!!! A point Luca made at 8:20 that connects with a point Anthony says at 14:38 all in regards to the tone Coles name was spoken on so here goes the connection and I think it comes from lack of engagement with his catalogue vs familiarity with the super stars that are Kendrick and Drake (which PS this is probably what Cole was talking about on the Pipe Down Freestyle😂) like it is for most people.. Luca @8:37 if you wanted to go for Coles political consciousness direction conversation ‘Change’ is a cool record BUT that ‘Be Free’ live performance on Letterman infront of a crowd that thought he was there to turn up and dance 🤣 would’ve been a much better song or moment to plug into (Check it out if you haven’t seen it)… COME ON GUYSSSSS “Fat Joe Show Voice”.. and Anthony @14:38 like I said I know you respect Cole and even stood up for him being his own producer and giving him that hat to wear above the other two BUT…… I encourage you to take back a statement on him not giving us anything aside from Studio Albums, let me bless your ears homie… Back in 2013 Jermaine dropped an extended play (really a mixtape) titled Truly Yours 2 with appearances from Jeezy, 2 chainz, and his future artist Bas on there… play Cole Summer and 3 wishes then revisit the whole story telling convo with a little more fire under coles name the music ain’t just relatable that shit is incredible! Aside from that solid episode Gentleman keep up the solid work 💪🏼

    imo, yeah i’d say so. cole has never had a monumental and generation-defining album like tpab nor has he released chart-topping singles like drizzy has. kendrick for sure beats both artistically, while drake edges them out in the numbers. i also think that dot and cole fall under the same niche of conscious rap by educating the youth, and even then kendrick’s gkmc does this way more masterfully than 2014 FHD. no disrespect to cole though, definitely one of the goats of the 2010s. i’d even put jermaine over kanye when it comes to lyricism.

The last decade was the top three for me each of them brings something that the others don't I go to Drake to listen for a feeling and I listening to Kendrick for thought and I listen to Cole for the reliability and the emotion of a man who rap with a purpose to make you feel several emotions. Drake clears with the vibes, but I would rather listen to Cole rap than Kenrick 99 times out of 100. I think Cole's conceptual albums, 4 Your Eyes Only/KOD, have gotten him undue slander. I actually think 4 Your Eyes Only is good. Also, people just live to hate Drake for some reason. They hate him, but you'd have to be a hermit to not hear his music. Kendrick is, inconsistent and rarely drops projects. No clue how the hell this guy randomly teleported to 1st place. "Every album is a masterpiece" is just a fucking lie, I personally would only listen to Good Kid Maad City. That includes this mid 5th album he just released. Cant believe 5 albums in 15 years somehow gets you over Drake, the guy who has dominated the entirety of that 15 years

  • @split_head_776
    @split_head_7768 ай бұрын

    Ive had Kendrick last since 2013-14 when I first heard him and Cole. Never changed. A few songs dont mean an album is perfect. Having 0 skippable songs means an album is great. Listening to it them front to back, Good Kid Maad City is the only great album to me, the others have several skips. Objectively, by my own criteria. Kendrick has 1 album with no skippable songs, Cole/Drake both have at least 3. Based on that the answer is easy. Drake dominated the entire decade, and personally I prefer Cole. If I had to listen to any of their albums on repeat, Kendrick would be the first one dropped. Even if its not albums, Kendrick's list of great songs is much smaller because he doesnt release regularly. This is all opinion, I dont have to love Kendrick the same way others dont have to love Drake. Its all about what you wanna listen to, not conforming others peoples favorites. Cole over Kendrick is a 'hot take' to others, but I think he clears

Plus most of his albums are regarded as the best albums of the 2010s. Drake always has a bridge from Pop to Lyrical. He always has some music to chart. We never know what we're gonna get from him. As men, and black men in particular, we are expected to be tough and never show emotions or insecurites. The whole thing about J. Cole is that he's able to show that vulnerable and honest side of him but also show the side where he feels like he can't be f'd with. I don't think one cancels the other. I agree it feels like cole is accepting the Bronze not saying he should buy he should've exuded more confidence. Even middle child it's the similar sentiment and I do think j.cole is 2 and kendrick is bronze strictly bc he is not as prolific
