On Sing About Me the first verse was his homie's brother. His homie got killed, and the homie's brother was telling Kendrick how much he appreciated him. And he was telling Kendrick, that he wants revenge for who killed his brother. Then he said if he dies before Kendrick's album drops...then the gunshots go off because its symbolic of him dying before Kendrick's album drops. The second verse is the sister of Keisha, from Keisha's Song on Section 80, who didnt appreciate Kendrick making a song about her story. The 3rd verse is Kendrick explaining he wasnt trying to offend her but he did it to help other people out there that need to hear the story.

Born in Houston as a white kid, but my dad was involved in crime and we were basically transients. I always always always remember having my mom's voice kinda perma-stuck like the good angel from cartoons. Even over little stuff like goofing off with friends when we were five and some kids wanted to go into the locked laundry room...little stuff. I was a buzz kill kinda, but trouble was always around. And after time, you end up losing the numbers game. The older you get, the more you interface with the outside world, and you still have to carry that. It's all of the BS from that past -- the people who die early before their time. The people who can't shake the drugs. And I'm somewhere else now, doing better, but I look back and it's so real. All of that braggadoccio on "Backseat Freestyle" or the more sincere wishing on "Money Trees"... It's like those private conversations with just your boys about that day coming up any moment when someone is gonna break out and do something special. It all feels very fragile and weak. When Kendrick shifts voice on tracks like "good kidd" or "sing about me" and speaks from a more mature vantage point, the insight is staggering. "What am I supposed to do when the topic is red and blue and you understand that I ain't, but know I'm accustomed to?" Or earlier ''I got animosity building it's probably big as a building me jumpin' off of the roof is me just playing it safe." It's understood that growing up in the hood puts people in a spot where you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. Hell, Too Short rapped about that on The Ghetto: "You can pay your billls and not drink too much, but the problems of life you'll be throwin up." I love how he closes in "Sing about me" with "look at the weak and pray one day you'll be strong, fighting for your rights even when you're wrong, and hope that one day you'll sing about me when I'm gone." But he doesn't even stop the self-interrogation. Beyond that, he's still asking, "did I put enough work in?" And that's why I love Kendrick. I feel he's actually trying to heal a lot of damage not just for himself, but for his entire community. And he understands that it is a process and needs to just...check in on it. Putting that in the art is next level and I love this album for that.

You're at 500 so quick because you're so high quality. I see other react channels occasionally mention they don't like to pause because they know the viewers don't like that. But if I didn't want to hear your thoughts I would just be listening to the music myself! You're listening to and enjoying the music but also taking the time to actually explain your thoughts on the songs, which is what react channels should do. It makes for a very engaging video. Predicting 1k within your next 2-3 videos. Sort of recommending a whole artist here. JID bounces back and forth with K-Dot for my favorite artist. While Kendrick is definitely the more "thoughtful" side, JID just makes straight up sonically fucking fantastic music but is still able to keep way more substance than most artists. Dude finds pockets and flows in places that shouldn't be possible. As far as studio albums go, he debuted with The Never Story and was pretty much instantly signed to J-Cole's Dreamville before dropping DiCaprio 2 (a follow up to his 2015 DiCaprio EP). Both The Never Story and DiCaprio 2 have plenty of substance as I said but are mostly a showcase of his technical ability. After about 5 years he drops a "sequel" to TNS, The Forever Story. TFS is absolutely fucking insane, and was in a lot of people's opinion AOTY even over Kendrick. His technically ability somehow got even better, his production and mixing got much better, and the album has great singing, story telling, and substance to it. It's probably my favorite album of all time behind TPAB.

Thank you so much. I try to structure my videos from a viewers standpoint because I, myself, as a viewer have things that I like or dislike that creators do. Also, I’ve heard a ridiculous amount of good things about JID so I’ll definitely react to music of his next.

@@justdatboie Raydar, Sistanem, or Kody Blu 31 would be good first songs depending on what energy you want. They're all from his newest album. Raydar is great for a harder song that showcases his rapping ability (though some of the football references may not make much since without the context of his other albums). Sistanem is a bit slower but is a storytelling song where he raps to his sister about how their relationship has changed since he started getting famous. Kody Blu 31 is a slow song with absolutely fantastic singing from JID dedicated to the family JIDs friend, who lost their child.

I'm not sure about the timeline either but there was a skit after the first track, later when his friends said "we're going to drop him off---because you know he tryna F on sherane tonight" So for sure his homies wasn't with him when he got jump. I think he went to her house multiple times because he said in money tress "I fuck sherane and went to tell my bros," ironically after he said this he said then usher "let it burn" came on (i think he said that), which could mean either he ghosted her for a time or she ghosted him for a time, but I'm pretty sure the events of the first song was not the first time he went to see her. Great reaction btw, i know i'm not a patron supported but i would like to hear a reaction of my favorite album of all time: "civil demo" by Isaiah Rashad.

The reason for her being 'Master Splinters Daughter' is because her brothers or cousins would wear colors like the turtles do, meaning they would gang bangers. They also beat people up so lmao also

Something I think you've might missed is the connection between Money Trees and m.A.A.d City, in Money Trees he mentions his uncle getting killed in Louis Burgers, and in m.A.A.d City from another guy's perspective about seeing a guy with his brain's blown out (2 bullets on my uncle Tony's head) at the same burger stand (Louis Burgers) where **** hang out. It's very difficult getting everything he wants to say in the album so I suggest you to listen to different perspectives so you can get a more complete idea of the album.
