@bd4947 I mean respectfully I disagree...It's a song about a guy slowly becoming more and more obsessed/parasocially attached as he's losing his mind. I was alive when it was released, and I'm not sure you can speak for the entirety of the "culture" at the time. "Stan" debuted at 51 on the top 100 and went on pretty quickly to become a cultural phenomenon. I'm not sure why you think people's interpretation of Stan had such a direct impact on his career either or why certain things wouldn't of happened the way they did. He was far from downhill or becoming irrelevant as two years later he'd release "the eminem show" an album that I'd argue was much more popular than "recovery". Recovery is titled as such because he was literally on recovery for Vicadin and some other stuff, and was 10 years later, its not relevant in my eyes. Regardless the song ends with Eminem saying the guy should be seeking a mental health counselor in a sincere way. Stan is literally a combination of "stalker" + "fan", and if you don't think stalkers, alcoholics, or people with suicidal ideation have a mental health problem idk what to tell you.

I know your dad would love to hear Mockingbird, it's the perfect next step in his discography concerning in terms of the progression in this Slim/Em story. You see the reality of his domestic situation behind the exaggerated accounts, and just how tragic, complicated and in ways beautiful it really is. He truly loves his children in spite of his fractured relationship, and wants them to make it through this messy stage in their early lives to become good people, but Eminem has to be a paternal figure from the sidelines, and the song is in many ways showing his hopes and his grief felt during the first two albums, the tragedy he can't express except through Slim.

Totally different genre but you saying that made me think of Chris Cornell when he did "I Promise It's Not Goodbye" - it's a poem a fan wrote, his daughter had cancer (I think) and he wrote the poem from his daughters perspective of "not saying goodbye, but this is the end for me" kinda. It's such a sad/beautiful song, I highly recommend it. Probably the most accurate statement here. Imo, the songs success, credit to Em, was due to probably a 1 mil dollar budget and the ears of both white and black America, which is a huge number. This is one of the greatest songs ever made. The way he tells the story is just incredible.
Great reaction guys.. FYI, the song is a sample from Dido's (pronounced 'Died-oh') own song 'Thank You'. The chorus hook of 'Stan' is actually the opening few lines from Thank You. It was a massive hit in its own right, particularly here in the UK where she was huge in the early 2000's. Stan is a great example of how you can take a song and transform it from its original meaning. In Thank You the chorus provides the happy juxtaposition to the depressing nature of the verse lyrics. But take that away and make the depressing part the focus, Eminem then cleverly crafts the story of Stan around it... It is in my opinion one of the greatest uses of sampling in hip-hop history.

Stan's brother at the funeral having dyed his hair and implying he was going down a similar path always freaked me out a bit. Also Stan's reflection haunting Eminem in the window when he's realizing that it was Stan that he heard about the news. Your dad reminds me of mine. We both always got excited to show eachother music, even when I got into screamo as a teen, he took me to warped tour and we had a blast. Love seeing you both vibe ❤
Your dad have such an amazing reaction every time I watch your videos. This song always gives me chills. I love you guys, sincerely early 90s kid. 🫶🏾
The progression from being an admirer to obsession to outright insanity has never been more well-articulated in a song IMO.

I'm a stan. I was born in st Joseph's hospital in Canada like him but the u.s. same name. We both went to Lincoln schools. . I have a gorgeous daughter. I tried to have the same bday as her n I was 6 days off. I named her Aaliyah. Which is Hailey backwards and adjusted. But also carries the two AA's from my name. Also respect to Aaliyah the singer. I'm from Hamilton Ontario. Steel town. 3 hours away from D Town. My ex Anna slit her wrists n tried to jump off a bridge while pregnant. I never got over that. I visited 19946 Dresden ave with my dad. It was burnt already. I just cried n felt so much emotion. You gotta call me man. I'm you're biggest fan.

you guys are so talented as reaction video reactionists. so nice to hear the digestion. im a great fan of the dad (:
I love y’all videos..I’m the age group of your dad so it’s nice to hear the comments and descriptions of the songs. My mom and I love the 70’s thru the 90’s…ALL MUSIC!! We don’t have a page but we do just like you and your Dad!! Thx for the channel!
I love these two, they seem so educated and looks like they have a great father and son relationship, I hope I can be like this when my son grows up ❤
Em's storytelling is up pretty high in the list of rappers that do this. I love that your dad gets to see how impressive the writing in the genre is. With that said, The Coolest and The Cool by Lupe are very important listens.

So many incredible Lupe tracks!!. Kick, Push is another amazing storytelling track.
Loved the video but most of all, loved watching the father and son connection, what a beautiful thing.
Been watching a few videos, mostly eminem and rap, this reminds me of me and my dad. He never gave it a chance Till I started listening to it and just with his similar intuition understood it the same way. Very cool thing you guys are doing. Helping connect generations, I love it. Keep it up.
Stan came out 20 years ago and is still a very popular and strong hip hop song. Eminem really came into his own with the Marshall Mathers LP.
The build up to this song was perfect. Appreciate the time and care you took prepare your pops for this.
I just discovered your channel. After looking at quite a few of your videos, I was hoping you would play this one for your dad, because this one especially shows Eminem as a poet and not just a rapper. This is excellent!

Welcome aboard!
This is my favorite channel because your dad is so wholesome
Ive been waiting on this reaction for the longest
Your dad has a great ear for music the fact that he doesn’t discriminate new genres and styles and can give a good honest look into it Also Ik you guys are loving that KZread money based on the tans u guys got in this one😂
Your father has done a great job on you humble man. God bless both
oh damn, takes me back to my younger years. eminem was so important to me. my parents hated me listening to him though. wish i could have had a conversation like this w them. thanks for great video, will be exploring more of your videos now
Thank you for doing this and for sharing your dad, it feels like he’s the internets dad and some of us need this 🙂
Hey... just ran across you guys channel a couple days ago and loved it...I love the music...the comraderie, the mutual love and respect... Good on you ... keep up the good work ! I'll stay tuned...
Watching you two sharing a love of music and enjoying the time your spending makes me wish I had this with my own dad and hope that I’m connecting with my own son this way.
LOVE SEEING RHE SURPRISE IN KAI'S EYES WHEN HE REALISES HOW WELL HIS DAD UNDERSTANDS, EXCELLENT 👌
This is really great that you guys get together and do this. You're a great dad obviously. Keep em coming. I love this.
The way your father changed moods when the last verse is playing got to me. I can relate because the first time I listened to this song the same thing happened to me.
I'm so jealous of your relationship with your dad. This channel is great and I love to see him discovering your favorite songs. My dad is an alcoholic and does not even bother to check up on his grandson or even to how am I doing. Would love to have such a great relationship with my dad like you have.
Wow wow wow! What a cool format you have!! Spending this kind of quality time with your dad , and having it on tape is worth gold! I love how your dad is interested in this music and takes his time to understand the music. Beautiful stuff man!
Maaaaan i Loved this. The way you and your father can share this together must be so much fun and educating. I can see that your father was moved and intrigued by this song. It sure pushes some buttons with peoples feelings and insight to rap music. Much love
I love this channel! So nice to see father and son discuss music. Also "in the drink" cracked me up
I love watching ur dad's reactions to all the music you play him and how open he is to understanding the lyrics and how he feels the songs and the emotions in the songs and the raps respect to you and ur dad

This is an amazing track. Always has been, always will be in my eyes. Lovely to experience this again after all this time through someone’s fresh eyes. Good job 👍🏻
Mad respect for use the explicit version not like other channels did, show Eminem as he wrote the stuff is how it should be
This dad has a fantastic memory for only hearing this 1 time.... song gives me goosebumps every time it ends. Top 3 song of all time
Love that you can share this with your dad. ❤
You can see how impactful and immersive the atmosphere he creates is. So insanely good.. loved this one
Absolute masterpiece of a song. Also love the live version with Elton John.
the way you look to your pops with excitement all throughout whatever song you are showing like a proud little kid is so sweet🥹💓
Adding to each of the verses, depending on what type of medium is being written or recorded, the soundscapes depicts the action as well. So you get scratching of pen on paper in the first, second and last verse, with the 3rd verse on the handheld audio recorder having a very subtle recording device soundscape . Overall a masterclass in storytelling. I'm a Stan of your son/dad music journey duo

Don't be a Stan. That's the message Em was sending with this.
I'm from germany and when this song released I was 10 years old and didnt understand anything and never knew what this song was really about, but still listened to it every now and then. Now half a year ago I stumbled over it again on spotify, hits completely different now when you understand every last word in it.
Watching people react to songs I wish I could hear for the first time again is something insane. I love this channel so much. I have many many more amazing Eminem requests, and possibly ones you have heard either - the both of you! I’m going to look through my list and comment back later LOL!
It’s awesome you guys did this reaction, good job.
