I had one for several years and sold it with about 143K miles on the clock. It was a bit more mint than the example you drove, but close in condition. I sold it about 3 years ago. Here are the issues I had with the car during the 6 years I owned it: -Replaced both high pressure fuel pumps ($500 each, parts only) -Replaced fuel pressure sensor (under intake manifold) -Replaced intake manifold ($2,000+ parts only) -Replaced the DRC with a KW V3 coilover system. Blew the DRC once and fluid was all over the place. Replaced one strut and refilled DRC and it was $1,800 -Rotors we’re lipped, so I ditched the brakes and got a StopTech trophy rotors and calipers. The OEM non carbon ceramic brakes had 4 pistons in front. I think the calipers were off a Gallardo. But the StopTech system was amazing. -After I sold it, the guy who bought it said the rear main seal started leaking (😱 Engine out service that could run you as much as $10K). -Luckily, the timing chain and guides were solid on the B7 RS4 unlike the B6 S4 which would start to rattle at high mileage due to the guides wearing down. That was also an engine out service. -Every 20K-40K you’ll get a MIL and will have to do a carbon clean. The dealer will run you about $2K to do it and a good Indy shop would do it for about $1,200. After you do the clean, the car will feel much faster again 😁. If you want to avoid carbon cleaning, you gotta drive it like you stole it all the time. I will say that I absolutely LOVED by 2008 RS4. It was amazing as you said it is. The engine sound alone was amazing if you revved it up to 8K rpms. I loved the clutch feel and the shifter was pretty good. Quattro was amazing and you could really be aggressive with the car in all kinds of weather without being too scared. Of all the cars I’ve owned, the RS4 is the one I have missed the most. I moved on to a new F80 M3 that’s also a 6 speed and it’s been great too. I still miss that V8 and the Quattro the most. I enjoyed the video, thanks!! Just thought I’d share my thoughts from my own experiences.

To own these cars, you need to be a DYI... Most of the items you listed can DYI. I bought the B6 S4 for $3k and swap the engine few times and did the chains, RS4 guides and all the seals and stuff. The job is not too bad at all as I can now take the engine and transmission out in like 4 hours. I still want a RS4. I will keep the RS4 for like ever...

420 hp out of 4.2 liter is still amazing by today's standards, very few NA V8's make that 100 hp per liter efficiency. The only thing that gets old is the technology features inside, looks and motor are a timeless work of art in the RS4.

Best Audi sedan ever. Had one new, 2007 in Avus Silver. Got an e90 M3 after and preferred the RS4...Biggest things to worry about are the cost of brake components, carbon build up and DRC failures. Audi had a recall on DRC due to leaks. DRC when working is a fantastic suspension. The wheels bend easily, but they look incredible. I’d love to find a low mileage stock RS4 at some point...

Been looking at getting one of these and found your video very informative and thorough. One thing I would have liked to have seen more about was the costs of repairs. I think anyone looking to buy one of these is going to get a list of things wrong with it and that will help determine value. And obviously people looking to buy one will get their own estimates and repair cost averages. But it would have been great if you had gone through examples of the cost to repair common issues and items such as the brakes, the carbon fiber covers that were bad on this particular model as well as fixing or replacing certain aspects of the suspension. Overall a great review though. No fussing with movie like shots or music, just a great straight up review. Got a sub out of me for sure. Thanks again for uploading.

@@BISCAYNEWAYS The 4.2 in the S4 is known to have issues with the timing chain guides wearing prematurely and allowing excessive slop in the chain, the 4.2 in the RS4 is largely different than that 4.2, one of those differences are metal chain guides, they do not have the chain issues the S4 does. It's actually a big part of why I went for an RS4 over an S4, that's an expensive repair.

I have always heard this and have been waiting for mine to need one, but fortunately it has never needed one in 100,000 miles. It is never used in traffic and I tend to use the rpm when I am driving it alone as it is a fun car to drive quickly. It was checked with boroscope about 15k ago. I always use good fuels in it but with direct injection this will have no impact on the inlet valves. The only issues I have had in 100k are suspension, a starter motor and a few sensors causing the engine check light to come on erroneously. I have now replaced the DRC system with a fully adjustable Bilstein coil over setup. The expensive issues have been the brakes mine has the optional carbon ceramic brakes and the parts are eye wateringly expensive and if you drive it hard it eats brakes and tyres a set of P zeros is needed every 10k that is swopping front to rear at 5k. You will also be on first name terms with your local fuel station. Given all of that I still have it years after it should have been changed as what is there to replace it with who does a manual transmission 420PS AWD estate car.

@@mikemorris3421 I've had two carbon cleans in my ownership, one by Audi and one by me. In about 20k miles, it was gummed up pretty well and needed the clean. Just keep on top of it and be sure to drive the car as it was intended. I just had all of the DRC hard pipes replaced as they were rotting above the fuel tank, I'm partial to the DRC because it keeps it JUST comfortable enough for long trips. Also, replaced the brakes with Girodisc on all 4 corners-loving them so far. And no, there really is no suitable replacement available...so the miles keep adding up on her.

@@VPassat6 I had a couple of leaks over the years on the DRC pipes so when the shocks reached the end of their life it was changed to coil overs with adjustable shocks, it is not as comfortable as it was, plus it is a pain to alter the rates so it lives with a slightly harsher ride than you would want for most of the time. There is pressure from my wife to change it but as you know with what? I still regret selling my RS2 so more than haapy to drive around in car with stone chips the odd scratch and out of date infotainment.

140k miles Audi/Volkswagen? Endless moneypit! Not worth it by any stretch of the imagination to buy this. $18k is way too much money... Maybe $4,600 at the most for the brandname and equipment. Even for an enthusiast this is still junk simply because of the miles on the motor and transmission. The looks/ body and interior doesn't mean anything. You cannot use this as a daily drive, maybe just to drive around town on the weekend but not driving long distances on the highway.
