Loved and agreed with everything you said and have been looking forward to this video since watching your last RS4 video. I always wanted an STI ever since I played my first rally game as a kid, literally wanted one for decades - only in blue with gold rims. That boxer engine sound is one of the best of any car. Finally in my late 30s I was in the position to add a manual AWD sports car to the garage but felt I had outgrown the STI, or at least outgrown the general STI crowd. Just one short drive in an RS4 and I was addicted - the way that engine revs and sounds and all that interior luxury, it really is leagues apart from the STI. It helped that it came with a custom valved exhaust for the best of both worlds - subdued when needed, or race car loud by a simple press of the sport button. In Daytona grey it’s possibly the ultimate sleeper as only enthusiasts seem to spot it. I still don’t know how the plush leather still smells new after 17 years.

Impreza all the way for me. The pure emotion and rawness of the car will not be beaten plus it’s so iconic from the best of the rally days. A JDM Impreza is a complete different kettle of fish to the UK and US Impreza also. The weight is a big factor for me driven both and the rs4 feels nice inside but feels a lot heavier when on it.

Ive owned both and they are great for different reasons. I now own a TT RS manual which gives the best aspects of both Audi & Subaru(ish) characteristics

Perfect for a bit of top gear editing 😂 clipping back an forth from the audi to the Impreza with Mozart for the Audi with Clarkson smoking a pipe wafting along then cuts to drum n bass with a bin cheesy grin on Clarkson's mug 😂

Great video, and 100% agree with your statement that mid noughties was pinnacle sport car era, I own a Clio 182trophy and an e92 M3 and they are a different league to the modern crop of hot hatches etc.

I remember driving these EXACT 2 cars at the dealership at the same time. Wow. With 0 miles, I know what these cars can do.

8 pot calipers on the Audi is very impressive.

Parts and maintenance cost favours the Subaru by far!!!!......but the Audi....now there is something special.....❤️🌹😼 😎

I have a 2006 Rs4 4.2 Cab and a 2005 Sti 2.0 Prodrive Widetrack saloon. Both in black in my stable. Others include Porsche 911 Turbo, Mercedes A45, X5M and Maserati Quattroporte 4.7s. If you know, you know.❤

@@royclarke8455 sprint blue is so overrated honestly. Maybe when these came out in 2005 it was the colour to have but some of the other colours have aged better IMO. I viewed so many in the flesh and unless it has the black optics pack it just looks dated with the silver trim against the blue. Ended up going for a silver one in the end, emphasises the flared arches more than any other colour, and doesn’t have the ugly silver trims! What a car!

Need some better camera work. Maybe go close up when talking about each car and then move back out again as too far away at the start. Also need to work on your breathing as regularly sound out of breath. Great content though and a good comparison

How does the scoob feel from the old prodrive springs to the current ones you fitted in your videos

Not really any different. The replacement springs were matched to the Prodrive ones and the dampers were the same KYB inverted so all is as it was other than refreshed to new 👍🏻

The compare here is just not fair. That audi is a legend. Absolutely stunning car, looks, sound, the pleasure of driving. Pure masterpiece from Audi.

I've owned both. My assessments: True awd, cost of repairs, durability, modability-Subaru. Sound, stock power, luxury, looks-Audi. Major issues: Ringlands for the STi, flaps and carbon deposits for the Audi. Truly different platforms and different target audience. I bought both when they were first introduced (in the US) and by far, the STi was a true game changer, capable of punching far above it's weight, whereas the Audi wasn't quite up to par with it's competitors except in the area of sound and looks (my opinion).

Good content but I wish you'd stop putting full stops in the middle of every sentence 😂

@@FastandFun quality of interior, looks, V8 sound, twice the engine size, one looks class, the other is a chav mobile, maybe similar performance upto 60 at least & similar priced these days but ones worth £15k & the other is really a £6500 car due to its age, quality of materials etc, I could turbo charge a Civic for a few grand & dust them both but it wouldn’t be worth anywhere near £5k even, Sti ain’t a civic don’t get me wrong but it ain’t an RS4 either, it’s bare bones vs luxury.

@@umarkhatab1700 you’ve clearly never driven an STI! 🤷‍♂️ It’s a hardcore, raw experience that does away with luxuries in favour of a single focus - to go down a B-road as quickly as possible. On/Off boost it’s an intoxicating drive, whilst having WRC links with the Drivers Controlled Centre Differential and the I/C water spray! For sure, the RS4 is the more luxurious. Mated to a wonderful high revving V8, delivering its performance high in the rev range. There’s so much weight out front though, that understeer will be likely in the wet, although I never found any issue in the dry. Looks great, goes great and it’s a great place to spend time. As an only car, RS4 every time. I expected the video to create a division. Most STI owners wouldn’t want an RS4, and most RS4 owners wouldn’t want an STI. But for me, they are both highly capable cars that will live long and become iconic 4WD cars of the 00’s.

@@FastandFun driven an Sti, not at the limit, never driven an rs4 but have owned Audi’s before aswell as jap cars, Audi’s are much better cars. Sti’s are quick but there’s nothing like having a large powerful engine, especially over a 4 pot even with the turbo.

Wrx sti isn’t what I’d call a super saloon. I don’t consider these cars in the same category at all.

Don't know why but Audis seem like boring characterless cars to me, sure its good in almost every aspect and faster than the scooby but the scooby has all the character and is more of a drivers car. Would love to see you compare an Evo to the STI, thats been a never ending debate for over 20 years

The driving dynamics are disjointed in the RS4. It feels sporty but doesn’t really egg you on to drive it that way unless you’re the type of driver that only likes to stab the throttle. It accelerates really well but when at-speed (40mph+) the turn-in is delayed and requires a lot of input to point the nose so you have to be patient (while annoyed the whole time) until the nose points, or the back end suddenly comes out because you’ve added so much steering input and all the weight is transferred to the outside, left tire. Definitely a point and shoot car rather than dive into the turn.

That's one way to say you've never owned an interesting Audi. Go buy an old C4 S4 or S6 with an inline 5, turbo, and AWD, and manual transmission and tell me what you think about character. You'll think this Subaru is soulless after that.

These cars are not even in the same segment though are they nobody is cross shopping these two cars 😂

RS4, M3, C63 has been done a zillion times! This was an interesting mix offering very different experiences whilst being 4-door, 4WD, performance saloons.

I’m not sure whether you are talking about the RS4 or the STI but in the UK values of both start at c.£10k with £15k getting you a broad selection of either (based on UK AT data). As I say in my video, for comparable cars (mileage/condition/etc) the RS4 carries a small premium (c.£3k).

The old Subaru LOST because it doesn’t have a stock Lamborghini steering wheel like the Audi 🤡😊👍🏻
