I own a varying selection of “affordable” performance cars from the 90’s and 00’s. Too often car reviews are from when the cars are new. I want to provide real owner reviews from used performance cars. What’s it like owning a 15 year old, 100k miles sports car in 2024? This channel tells you, providing updates on the highs and lows of running multiple sports cars.
This channel will also include videos from great road trips that I do and some DIY maintenance that I need to do to keep the costs manageable. I aim to provide weekly video updates most Fridays at 1pm.
My current cars are;
1993 Mazda MX5 (Eunos) 1.8 NA
2005 Renault Clio RS182 FF
2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STI PPP
2008 Audi R8 V8
2010 Renault Megane RS250 Cup
2012 Range Rover (L322) 4.4 TDV8 Westminster
I welcome comments and feedback across all my videos, including what you like and also want you don’t like.

Glad you liked the A833 👍. Hopefully the road surface wasn’t too bad, it’s been a while since I was over there.
Not great rod surface at the start but improved as the road went on - thank you 👍🏻
Great video. I love the Porsche Cayman... but OMG seeing it in perspective with your mighty Rex, it looks kind of gross and hilariously long and obese. I had no idea it was so big. Give me your WRX any day (the smaller rim size is aesthetically appropriate for the vehicle proportions BTW). I love Porsche, so it pains me to say that.
Just changed mine on golf 2 gti last month thanks to your tuto guys. A bit scary at the beggining especially for somebody who's not use to mechanics stuff but with a bit of work (and few unespected little problems) its now working perfectly fine... Cheers from France mates !
Utter shit. I've owned both z3 and z4 both 6 pot and tbh the z4 very uningageing.. designed for women snd the younger generation. The z3 was from the era where if you don't know how to "drive" you shouldn't be driving one!
I've driven a 997.1 Carrara 4 but would still pick a sti
Forgive me wrx knowledge but in is a 2.1 stoker just a stroked 2.0 and not a 2.5 engine?
It’s a stroked 2.0 engine
There was a seat upgrade in the DB9 from 2007 onwards. A great improvement.
You forgot to mention pulling fuse 22 out of the boot of the DB9. Pull that fuse and the valves open in the exhaust... listen to it growl!
Glad that went better and tire got sorted. What rpm are you doing at 70mph?
I’m sat at about 2,800rpm at 70mph
@@FastandFun not too bad
👁️🌩️🔍☁️❄️💦📲✌️😊
We haven't had a drop of rain for 4 months here in South Australia
I really like this channel great roads in the Highlands we used to travel up to oban as a kid in my dad's ginetta g26 , also a mate test drove an 5:38 Impreza sti in 2005 , it was a good car but thirsty for a daily and he didn't like the big wing as decided it felt like someone was constantly tailgating you seldom seen now .
Why you trying to act as if england doesnt get rain like this aswell 😂
I thought you were in Portland Oregon 😂
If you live off the great lakes this is called Tuesday 😅
Motorway journeys are always boring but that's not what those cars are built for so hopefully rest of it goes better
Not a good start though, the Caymans tyre is completely flat this morning so a quick trip into the local Ayr tyre garage this morning
Hopefully a better day for you today mate
Have a flat tyre (cayman) to sort out before driving north into another met office weather warning for storms! 😳
Ullapool has super unleaded, that's where I'm from and was no problem for my scoob.
Where in Ulapool? Could you name the garage so I can find it please? Thanks
Lochbroom filling station, it's about half a mile on the right when you come into ullapool from Inverness direction. You can't miss it.
@@cars11000 Thank you so much ⭐️👌
Had the same year and model, the biggest problem I had was the DPF which kept blocking and was a pig to clear, to be fair that was probably down to me doing to many short journeys but we don’t all live on the motorway. You will be in the governments rip off tax bracket with that as well, on the plus side no other vehicle will drive like them.
I notice the price difference is big depending where you live. I paid 10800 pounds for my w220 400cdi in Norway.
Looking forward to the videos.
even tho its a pain its needed. helps cool engine and keeps the nox down
The EGR actually increases intake temp thus lowing the nox levels
We did the NC500 rich you’ll love it, I’ll have to join you on a road trip soon, I’ll have a new car to do it in 😉 one I think you’ll love.
We aren’t doing the NC500, we want to spend more time on the west coast and will probably do the Grand Tours PEN1S 287. Should be an epic 6 days. You really need to get yourself down here for a weekend. Will be good to meet up at Anglesey in a few weeks time. What’s the latest on the replacement car then? You’d gone from a Golf GTI to a M2C last time I spoke with you. What’s the latest plan?
This is very helpful. I laughed hard when Aaron said he isn’t looking forward to reinstalling the big center piece since I thought the exact same thing when I removed it myself just 20 minutes ago
Thanks. Saved me £40 to have it done at the garage by ordering struts from SGS and doing it myself
"you can shove so many fingers in there"
You’ll get super unleaded at the Tesco petrol station in Tain if you’re going that far north of Inverness.
Thank you. Yes, I’m sure we’ll be going through Tain at some point. I’ve also found another Tescos at Dingwall, a little closer to Inverness. Do you know whether there’s any on the west coast though?
I was trying to think of any on the west coast as it’s been a wee while since I was over that way (I took octane booster for my Evo 5 just incase). One other thing I was thinking of today, if you’re heading down Loch Ness to Drumnadrochit, I would highly recommend the A833 from near there, across to Beauly, it’s a great fun road.
@@Ross_16v I’ve just taken a look on the map. Okay, we’ll take that road then. Thanks for the heads up, just what I wanted 👍🏻
No problem at all 👍. Although I live in Aberdeenshire these days, I’m from up in NE Sutherland so know the area north of Inverness pretty well. If I think of any other recommendations I’ll let you know 👍
@@Ross_16v please do, any other must do roads fully appreciated 👍🏻
I have one of these, 2005. S-line. Graphite gray. Been my daily driver for 18 years. Still runs like a top. I love the exhaust note. I love how the DSG gives me 30 mpg ( the high torque VR6 means that in D the TT shifts into 6th gear at 35 mph. It’s optimized to lower your revs as much as possible.) I also love that the 3.2 has a timing Chain, rather than a belt. Those wheels are unique to the 3.2 Quattro DSG as well. I love that everything inside that LOOKS like metal actually IS aluminum. Not chromed plastic. At 19 years old they still look new. Yours is missing the cargo net in the boot, which I love to keep smaller loads from flinging about on turns. The rear seats are NOT unusable. I have had kids back there, and even folded up a full size person in a pinch. But their primary use is that, here in the States, that rear seat cuts your insurance premiums by about 35% Two seaters cost more to insure. Up until recently, Its been the lowest cost of ownership of any car I’ve had. Had ONE $40 brake light switch go bad in 16 years of driving. But mine has been parked outdoors all this time, so it’s just starting to show some sun damage to the paint on the spoiler and roof gutter trim. And I recently had the headliner re-done. Other than that, I replaced the fuel pump just last year, and recently had to have the AC compressor fixed. And I replaced the instrument cluster over the dreaded red screen issue. The engine and transmission have been bulletproof. The best thing about the 3.2 is that the combo of the DSG never letting you exceed redline nor lug the engine protects both the transmission and the engine from driver exuberance. Additionally, they are a lot harder to mod, for lack of room under the hood, and won’t let you run over redline, so the tuners and dragsters tend to go for the cheaper 1.8L turbo manuals. That means that if you buy a used 3.2 DSG you are more likely to get a car that has not been run hard and worn out so bad. And the DSG is the best transmission ever devised. It’s faster and more responsive than any manual. You can run it in manual shift mode and it still won’t let you hurt the engine, or you can run it in automatic mode and not wear yourself out in bumper to bumper traffic. In Sport mode it will delay shifting until redline as long as you’re accelerating, and downshift early for compression braking, or to keep the engine in its power band for more aggressive driving. And even in fuel saving Drive mode, you can instantly tap the shift paddles to flip to manual control at any time and it will shift back to auto mode if you don’t tap the paddles again for a 20 seconds or so. It never misses a shift, Never shifts early or late, never grinds a gear or mis-clutches. Its stock exhaust note in Drive is understated and elegant, but present. And in Sport mode it’s an impressive low throated growl that is still not so loud as to be annoying to other folks on the road. It’s the most elegant touring sport ever made and a design tour de force. As to the cup holders… At first I thought they were in an awkward spot. But I rather quickly got used to them being behind my elbow. I love them now. They put the cup Out of the way and yet I have no issue reaching back to get the drink, or putting the drink back without looking. It may be easier for me with a US car because I am using my dominant Right hand, whereas you Brit’s are fumbling about with your left.
U can get super unleaded in Thurso and also Castletown in Caithness Thurso is 98 octane Castletown is 97
That’s great to know although we may not go up onto the north coast as our preference is to head across to the west coast.
Thank you. But, what is there to “tighten up”?
Probably nothing, but if the struts is slightly too long you can rotate it and it will shorten or extend its length slightly.

Wow, I didn’t know only 400 six speed manuals came to the UK and now 70 still on the road. I happy to say that I’m one of the 70. I’ve had mine for 16yrs now
Thanks for your rew, absolutly helpfull for me 🙏
Unlawful mod.. rest in cell brother
There have been Range Rover's in my family longer than I have been here. In all those cars, early classics, late classics, P38's L322s there has genuinely not been a bad one. Never needed recovering from the side of the road. Yes there have been some large bills etc. given it is a big complex heavy car. These cars are not the problem, its the previous owners and what they have avoided doing maintenance wise.
Good to hear there are no 'Achilles Eels'.
It cools down things
Nice review! I've actually just purchased a Fiesta ST 150 a couple days ago. I had a Clio 182 in the past and a RS200 and they were both soo much fun! The only downside to the Clio for me was mine weren't very reliable... Ball joints made of chocolate , £600-£800 cambelt/dephaser replacement, Gearbox and electrical issues.. . I decided to go for an ST150 as the parts are just so much cheaper and easier to find! Cheaper to insure , Cheaper to run and also it's on a timing chain can't really go wrong! I think ford did a good thing on winding the power back for reliability and costs IMO. A fabia VRS was also on my list.. But trying to find one of those standard and not covered in rust is just impossible. Also not to mention majority have been to the moon and back. I still think the ST150 although being in 3rd place and down on power is the best bang for buck you can get... The Clio and Fab are great cars but for £3000 hard to find a good example nowadays.
I bagged an unregistered showroom car in March, a 24 plate Fiesta ST. Love it to bits
The Mk6 is a modern classic. I'd leave space in my garage for a pristine low-km one any day. The lack of a foot rest is a genuine down point though. That engine sounds so good. Thank you for your honest review!
I’ve just bought one. Just the Vogue. Unfortunately since I bought it it’s been in a garage awaiting a starter motor from the UK. I live in Italy. Just hope they can fix it 🤦♂️
What's the point of comparing a car with a differential and one without? in any case a rear-wheel drive with a 3 liter is already something rare! especially hot hatches!
I’m comparing two of the best FWD and RWD hot-hatches in standard form. Just so happens one comes with an LSD as standard and one doesn’t!
Did this car ever go up for sale or did the owner keep it?
It sold just as the video went live 👍🏻
@@FastandFun thanks, I’m after one of these 🙏🏼
@@tomgoring5013 I still own my blue blobeye STI and it always brings a smile to my face. A modern classic 👍🏻
@@FastandFun well if you ever want to sell it, give me a shout 🤞🏼
@@tomgoring5013 I think we’ll be old men before I sell it. One of those cars that I don’t ever plan to sell. Hope you find a good one 👍🏻
Sounds like somebody needs to get themselves into a TCR or Clubsport S… 🤔
People need to realise that deleting the egr is only part of the whole process. The reason theres so much carbon build up is because the crankcase breather system is coating the intake with oil. The gasses from the egr then stick to the oil coating and then builds up the carbon deposits. The correct way is to delete the egr, then map it out of the software and install a catch can in the breather circuit. The catch can will not eliminate it completely but it will definitely help!
