It was a titanic battle in the making in the supers at the 1998 European Weightlifting Championships (Riesa, Germany), where Ronny Weller, on his home turf, was taking on the Russian giant Andrei Chemerkin. Word was that Chemerkin wasn’t in top shape, and Weller, who excels in the snatch, did just that, with a world record 205.5 kg to Chemerkin’s 195. Knowing he had to do well in the clean and jerks to maintain his lead, Weller opened with a conservative 245, and Chemerkin made his 250, but he didn’t maul it-in fact he had to work for it, maybe waiting to see what Weller would do and then hit a homer. Weller looked better at his next attempt, 255 kg, and then called for 260 kg. As Randall Strossen reported at the time, “I never expected to see Weller hit 260 in Riesa, but that’s just exactly what he did-he had to work a little to hold the jerk but, hey, we’re talking 260 kg overhead, and the lift never looked in doubt.” Weller’s total was a world record 465 kg and Chemerkin never came out for the next round. Watch here how Weller capped off his celebration with a trademark move-and who was in the crowd to see his performance? No less than Russian weightlifting triumvirate Leonid Taranenko, Anatoly Pisarenko, and Alexander Kurlovich.

ahaha. Actually those shoes are really heavy and hard, so it can really damage someone :D

I know more his bavarian Friend Manfred its totally different... NERLINGER was born to be big and lift in Slowmo....WELLER IS NOT BIG AT DEPARTURE ......N.B in Clean jerk Nerlinger was able to defeat weller and even recover losse at snatch ! He do it several time !!!! I see him in late to 10kg at snatch on Weller (200) and recover leadership in clean jerk....

@@JayzsMr fat or not fat ... with a slap he can explose a coconut..... even Boxer pro can hesite to challange it (at Paul Anderson time things was different...and big men was not dangerous in figjt).. now an "over 200kg snatcher " is a killerr

Weightlifting shoes are not cheap. Furthermore, the sentence for murdering someone is typically not light.

Taking shoes off on platform is an old universal sign for retirement.
I remember when a geat leader of oly comity speak about Ronny ’’ the Crazy german allways withouth Belt or straps... ’’

The bar was still moving but the lift was passed. Kurinov did 266 the same way and they turned it down

What are you talking about? Wasn't Kurlovich (may he rest in peace) red-lighted because he failed to lock out his right elbow?

I think it was because he was rotating to his right too much. And less the elbow
Ronny was our best Showman ...Pisarenko in other style was genius too

Rolf Milser was a pretty good showman.
Is Olympic champion Ryan wehler still living and if so is he training future weightlifters
I still have the shoes.. But I'm taking sensible offers.. Starting at 20000 euros

265kg hätte er auch geschafft.
One Gold and lot of other maedals in Weightlifting.........but allways gold in shoes launching....if we forget joke......Ronny ’’beltless’’ Weller is the stronger
