If i had a nickel for every time a german weightlifters' girlfriend died in a car accident right before they won the olympics, i'd have two nickels but it's weird that it happened twice

I know Weller attended the 2003 worlds but I cant remember if he actually lifted or bombed out. He was a great guy. I got a chance to talk with him and watch him train at the 2003 worlds and he had a sense of humor and took a photo with me. It was great memory for me after watching him compete for many years and then get a change to meet him.

I loved the training hall footage of him in Australia. I wish there was more video of these golden era lifters training.

I think his GDR national records are most impressive. 205+240 and a 245 jerk under 110. His '88 Euros performance also goes unrecognized because of the lack of footage

Chermerkian’s 260 at Atlanta 1996 wouldn’t come close to passing nowadays. Brutally strong man with awkward technique. Deadlift-upright row-front squat. Still the only guy to try to clean 600 lbs. 2000 Olympics tried 272.5 for the win.

Chris LeRoux has 1989 world junior champs coverage if you find him.. also Ronny did 195 and 245 earlier in 1989 for his best 440kg total at 110kg in some ? German competition mentioned in world weightlifting

Well the fort Lauderdale world juniors in 1989 and Ronny's 205kg snatch pre dated the senior world champs in Athens by several months where he snatched 202.5kg

I was at the 1989 Junior Worlds Sn. 190-200-205 , C+J 232.5 missed twice at 242.5 cleaned both times jerked to lockout but twisting lost. Very impressive , the 205 was absolute limit.

In 2023 6 people snatched over 200, but beyond that, 3 made beyond 210, and 1(obviously lasha) made 220, we'll see similar numbers in Paris, perhaps a 219, a 214 and a 217. Being lasha, lalayan and martirosian in order. Or I could be surprised, lasha is likely still capable of 222~ and a lalayan who doesn't pass out is a monster
