I worked for Sanctuary Music at this time in the Production Dept. This was the 1st big tour I helped put together. My boss Teresa and I were office based, and liased with Dickie Bell the Production Manager for Maiden and Bill Barclay, I think, was the Tour Manager. They were a great bunch to work for. I worked there for another ten yrs and travelled all over the world on Maiden related work, and stuff for the other bands that were managed there. Good times.

@@moreblack It was very weird! We knew Bruce had left the band weeks before it was announced. Then someone had the bright idea to run a competition to replace Bruce. Basically people sent in a demo of then singing and the production dept, Teresa, myself, and Dickie Bell had to sit and listen to each and every tape and narrow it down to about 20 of the best. We had to do this whilst still putting tours together for the other bands. So when we had the big meeting to let us know whom Rod and Andy (Maidens Mangers), and Steve Harris had chosen, we were stunned to hear Blaze was the replacement, not one of the entrants, and there was a couple of really good guys that would have been great. I feel that Blaze never really felt comfortable in Maiden. It was a bad choice and he knew it! He couldnt sing many of the regular hit songs live, he was not used to performing in front of that size of crowd, and the list went on. He was a super nice guy though, just was not a natural rock star. I remember he freaked out in Japan (alot of musicians have a real shock in Japan. Nothing is in English, no one talks English, Etiquette and manners are very different) he kept pissing of the Japanese with his behaviour. It would have been fine in the west, and he couldnt understand what he was doing. Then he got lost. There is no frame of reference over there, and it just got to much for him!! Apart from that he was easy to work for, no big demands etc.

Dave Murray is a very very shy person - unfortunately you hardly see him in motion in today's concerts, he usually just grins at one spot and plays his thing down. I really liked his "fairy" movements at the previous concerts. The others jumped wildly around the stage and he almost flew, rocking, swaying, waving his hair gently. I always thought that was something very amusing.

The first time I ever saw Maiden was on this very UK tour, in December of 1990 at Birmingham NEC, with Anthrax supporting. I was an extremely excited 14 year old :-D My older brother escorted me with one of his mates, I even remember leaving school early that day after having permission to go, but I can't remember exactly what I said to get out early now, it probably wasn't that I was going to see the mighty Iron Maiden for the first time :-D I still have my programme from that gig, and a tee somewhere too still I think. Since then, I have collected many more tour programmes and merch, and built up a superb collection of Maiden memorabilia...it's all treasured along with this amazing band. Long may they reign!!! I have bought this album and the other seven before it at least four times. The first time they remastered their older albums was awesome just because of the bonus CD that came with it.

Also seen them at Whitley Bay for Seventh Son tour... They definitely went back to basics on this tour but it was good, very, very good. Seem to remember Newcastle went nuts for Wolfsbane, Edinburgh didn't. They just didn't seem to get the band at all. Wouldn't most people say that Blaze was the worst thing to happen?... Why is he less bad than Janick all of a sudden?... Not that I hated his presence as much as most, because he was good on the two albums he did (and terrible live). But Janick contributed a LOT more to Maiden's existence. - Sure, he might not be as neat and tasteful as a player, but he kept the energy up while Adrian was gone, and contributed to songs as well. - Had he not been there, what boring sod could we have gotten instead?... Perhaps there were some good suitable players out there, but maybe the energy or personality wouldn't have been right. - You can't in all fairness say "the worst thing that happened" when he helped the band last as long as they did. - If he was actually bad for the band, then it might not have existed anymore.

@@joddeurter2448 that is how I feel about the Fear Of The Dark album. That half of the songs from it sound like they could have been on Tattoo Millionaire. Fear Of The Dark is the only Iron Maiden album that I can't get into all the way. I like only about five songs from it and I have listened to the album many times since it came out and it just won't grow on me. I really love Be Quick Or Be Dead, Afraid To Shoot Strangers, and the title track Fear Of The Dark alot though.

Basically i'm tired of hearing the classics they always play live like Run to the Hills, Number of the Beast, Hallowed Be thy Name, Iron Maiden, Fear of the Dark, the Trooper. Mainly those songs. I still love all Maiden stuff just need a major break from those songs. They need to change up their setlist badly.

Vocally Bruce is on 🔥, this is some of the best I've heard from him in Maiden. That said, the body language from all of them is terrible. I think Adrian leaving must have torn them apart and you almost feel like Dave and Steve hadn't fully embraced Gers at this point as you'd have Murray and Harris on one side and Bruce and Jannick on the other. Dark days for Maiden. Makes their resurgence today all the more amazing.

I don't want to hurts anybodys feelings but here is my opinion, this is not the best time period for his voice, critics in the 90s complained about his voice changed for this record if you compare it with how he sounded in the 80s. Being that said, 90s Bruce sounds way better than lots of singers nowadays.

@@Javier-qk7ms to be fair Bruce suffered badly on the Somewhere in Time tour 86-87 and his voice was gradually getting better over the next 2 album/tours. Nowadays he is singing his socks off! The biggest comparison I can think of in terms of control and high notes is Geoff Tate. In the 80s he was seriously giving Bruce a run for his money but now he cant sing for shit!

I love the title track, one of my favourite Maiden songs, but the album was a step backwards. It was the first Maiden album that I had the pleasure and excitement of rushing out on release day and buying (I got into them after 7th Son had been released, but it was actually through a friend at high school giving me a copy of Powerslave) and I was disappointed. The sound they got from Barnyard Studios was lack lustre, particularly the drums, Adrian had left (and Janick is a very messy soloist) and after what they did with 7th Son.. still, for myself, it's better than the X Factor and Virtual XI.

I can remember that moment back in time too ...... great expectations and such a big disappointment , especially in the subject of solos .... unfortunately when Martin Birch stopped producing their albums it got even worse . Up to Fear of the Dark fortunately songs were stil good but after it Maiden started to compose in many cases like quite amateur band . Fortunately we can still listen to their golden era masterpieces The Number , Piece , Powerslave , Somewhere and above all Seventh Son .....metal benchmarks .

Of course the show I finally get to see after years of begging mom Maiden decides to do the most basic stage show in ALL of maiden history period. My whole life has been this way. A day late and a dollar short. I'm destined to miss everything great and only see mediocrity. Don't get me wrong maiden is always great. Well, ironmaiden.com has lists of all the venues on all their tours. The info for the vid says Newcastle on the 25th Sept 90, which although the band's website puts it on the 26th, would make it City Hall. They revisited the UK on the same tour later in the year, playing arena sized venues, and played Whitley Bay Ice Rink on 13th Dec. I saw them at Sheffield City Hall in Oct '90, then again at Birmingham NEC Arena the following December.
