VINTAGE TV/VHS RIP Collection #10
In the 1980s and 1990s I used to record on VHS everything related to music that I could catch on TV. Lately I ripped it all in DVD that was ripped again in video file and finally uploaded here. Enjoy!

Not a bad album "per se": it just had the bad luck to come after Somewhere in time and 7th Son! But if you listen to some randomic playlists of maiden (I mean with songs not ordered by timeline), tracks from No Prayer do not seem so bad in the end.

Adrian was and is again , a catalyst in Maiden. He takes them somewhere else in musically and song writing wise. He isn't a Metal guitarist per se, or a fast player/shredder. He is a more measured and melodic player. Bruce sums him up on the Flight 666 documentary when he says "Adrian just picks notes out of the air and nobody knows how he does it, because only Adrian can do it." Maiden lost far more when Adrian left, than they ever did when Bruce left. This takes nothing away from Janick Gers, who is a fine guitar player and the 3 Amigos work so well together.

I love this album also. It reminds me of Piece of Mind in its approach. This was the last of their straight forward albums. Although I am happy with the present Maiden, I love what they did with this album. It is a vital part of their catalog...a beast of an album. All Steve said was Adrian initially was more rhythm and harmony which in his book he talks about being a front man in Urchin he was happy doing. Joining Maiden he had to quickly adapt and play more solos which he did brillianty and as Steve said he was a great songwriter and backing singer. Hardly doing him down.

I appreciate that Jannick was the new guitarist and they need to move on from Adrian, but Steve's comment that Jannick was more of a "natural lead player" hasn't aged well for me. While I hear Jannick's leads as somewhat on-the-edge and scrappy, Adrian's leads are all virtually perfect - memorable and singable. The perfect complement to Dave's on-the-edge bluesy rips.

Here we are years later and the Adrian VS Janick argument is still going. There is NO comparing those 2 because they are 2 different lead players. There, enough said!

Janick’s a more natural lead player? He can barely solo in key. Adrian’s lead playing is far better than Janicks.

Atonal isn't the same as out of key. He's more of a noise maker, but I'd rather have that different style in there than both guitarists sounding exactly the same. Also "better" is subjective.

@@davidoriordan1393 Yeah. And Nebula Rain clearly don't know what he's talking about, because Janick's guitar playing sounds more like Dave's, although much sloppier. Adrian's guitar playing is in a more blues sounding way. Janick is a Dave wannabe. So he's basically saying that he rather wants a Adrian and Dave duo than a Janick and Dave duo. 😂

This was where I lost interest in maiden. Janick was sounding too much like Dave, And in my opinion vastly inferior to Adrian. And who knew eh, Adrian said the sound they were going for was a step back. Thats what I thought too.

I've been a Maiden fan since 1982. No Prayer for the Dying was a horrible album. That's just my opinion, everyone is entitled to one. First song was good and it went way downhill from there. The tour was fantastic. Fear of the Dark wasn't much better. There's a reason why Bruce left. The song writing returned on X Factor and Virtual XI, and of course Brave New World is simply epic.
