I once saw Blaze with Wolfsbane years ago when they supported Saxon, I was right down the front wearing a Maiden shirt and he was eyeballing me alot, then at the end of their set he grabbed me and gave me a big old hug! Standing in Dickinson's shadow and trying to fill the big shoes he left behind is surely a daunting task that would make most of the haters cry and give up. But Blaze gave it 110% and I will always have nothing but respect for that man.

I saw Maiden in Sept in Oakland, CA. I loved the setlist. The fact that Sign Of The Cross and The Clansman were included to me means they totally respect the song and for Bruce to sing Blaze’s material my hats off that is respect big time. Bruce will always be the top singer but not enough due is paid to Blaze. I have three Maiden discs in my car right now. Number of the Beast, The X Factor, and Virtual XI. Hail Blaze and up the Irons everyone!!

I don´t care what you might think, I love Blaze´s voice, to me it seems like a missed opportunity somehow, to many of you this is their worst era, but to me it will always be a " golden era " if the band only lowered their key to meet his vocal range, you would have been blown away, compare his voice of the X-Factor songs with the Trooper....given time he would have been awesome in Maiden....Please check out there official videos : Lord of the Flies, Futureal, Man on the Edge, Afraid to shoot Strangers or even Angel and the Gambler, or his solo career and I promise, THERE is power, anger, emotions and raw edge all right .....

i like the blaze era too in hindsight knowing bruce came back....at the time i pretty much gave up on them like alot of fans...i remembering seeing the x factor eddie on the cover and thinking it sucked but now i love it......that said if they tuned down like everyone says is the solution they wouldnt be maiden.....he was a weird choice that we got 2 interesting albums from but in the end the band wasnt looking to completely change on that level. they just didnt realize it until he was already in the band.

I'm just not into Blaze-era stuff; not a fan of his voice (especially live, this being a great example), the songs or his stage presence. BUT not going to bag on anyone else for being into those songs etc. - It's all good. He seems like a nice bloke and having to follow Bruce is just so hard. The way I look at it we might not have Bruce in the band now had it not been for Blaze - Who knows? The other thing is that it was a weird time for Metal - I remember having been a die-hard Maiden fan since POM I started to struggle a bit when No Prayer came out and then after that without Bruce I lost interest; they were trying to stay up to date but it wasn't happening for me. Here we are now, though, with Maiden still smashing it, still showing everyone how you do it right, and I count myself as so fortunate that I've had the privilege of seeing them and living with that music in my life for the last 35+ years, whoever was in the band. My son is 4 and I just hope they carry on long enough for him to be able to come and see them with me....

@@SeaOfMadness thank you for being nice, I agree that he couldn´t really handle their classic hits but the two albums he made with Maiden was/is legendary....Theese dark, theme, the brooding heartfelt songs, wasn´t really given a chance at all by their fans, everyone was expected a Bruce clone, but Blaze wasn´t, so they decided he wasn´t good without giving him the benefit of a doubt. Lately many of them have accepted and finally giving him the credit he deserves for keeping Maiden alive.....To me aswell as to many others theese albums are a gift, a treasure, especially the X-Factor, so please if you would take the time to listen one more time, to the music, the lyrics, maybe you could find it in your heart to appreciate that....I really hope you will....

It's the bands fault as they didn't tune down, he asked and Steve said no, why would they refuse. The sound guy kept everything the way Bruce had it, blaze said he couldn't hear dave in his ears and he had to much bass but he just got ignored, which is why he stands by dave's monitor to be able to hear him. The start of virtual xi tour they had new sound guy who listened to blaze, he had expensive in ear monitors so he could hear everything, Steve said he was singing great, in Greece after what Steve said was a great gig and blaze sounded great blaze took out his monitors and put them on a table in dressing room, someone plugged in a battered old kettle all the lights went out someone bumped into table knocked them on floor and janick stood on them, there wasn't time or the money to get new ones, blaze went back to struggling. Read blaze's book at the end of the day it explains it all. Lost a bit of respect for Steve after reading that book. They even asked Bruce back before they had even told blaze he was out Bruce said what about blaze Steve sad don't worry about blaze he'll be going soon. Blaze's last gig the band went without telling him they weren't doing an encore, he waited back stage then realized oh everyone's gone, thanks for telling me guys. At least Janick has had the decency to say I think we need to take some of the blame for blaze live problems, we should had done more Paul stuff and not pushed his voice to much.

_Pthu! Finito!_ Seriously, I can barely stand a regular heavy metal crowd where the latecomers think they have a right to force their way to the front where I've been keeping my place for hours, but spitting at the vocalist is beyond childish. It's sad, but also _kinda_ funny during The Trooper, as the band is gathered together for a feel-good concert finale, but Blaze is gazing at the spitting sons of bitches with murderous intent (@ 01:44:03). Harris joins him in staring at the hooligan(s) with disapproval, as the leader of the band should. _Anyone else?!_

I think Blaze was great in Iron Maiden. I don't understand all of the negative comments about him. You can argue that he don't sound like Bruce, but then again Bruce don't sound like Paul. They are NOT trying to sound like each other. Keep an open mind. Throughout the years and all of the lineup changes Iron Maiden has ALWAYS maintained there signature sound. UP THE IRONS!!!!!!! ROCK ON!!!!!!!

MrMegaFredZeppelin it's not about sounding like Bruce. Did you even listen to this concert? Laze cans stay in tune or stay in the right key. He is all over the place. He can't hit the notes. It's fucking embarrassing! And look how he acts on stage. He doesn't act like he is a professional singer putting on a show. He acts like a fanboy that can't believe he is on stage jamming with his favorite band. Total disaster.

Thegamer101135 ok, ive listened to 2 songs so far from his newest album, it is better for sure, it kinda sounds like Bruce Dickenson slowed down. i also listened to a few of his Maiden songs, with a producer, he isnt terrible, but put the man on stage and its ridiculousness, just my opinion, but i wouldn't let him sing in my garage band when i was 16 years old, he looks and acts like a bafoon, im not saying he is one, but he has no business on stage, his falsetto is very flat, im sorry but for Iron Maiden, he is a cotastrophe. i wish him all the best but he is not a good singer.

  • @blaze888883
    @blaze8888836 жыл бұрын

I think that the style of singing he had in the Wolfsbane was very beautiful and captivating and at the time looked very much like Paul. The problem was not that he was not a professional singer but rather that Steve Harris insisted on keeping the settings for Bruce without taking into account the lower voice of Blaze! It was like making Pavarotti do a whole concert on Freddie Mercury's notes it was obvious that the vocal cords did not hold as two great singers but with opposite tones! If Steve had taken account of the setting today we would just be talking about .... do you prefer the high tones of Bruce or the lower ones of Blaze and Paul? This is my thought .... for me you can not criticize a person who despite his band has made him uncomfortable he put the maximum effort has tried to keep those settings! I would criticize more the band that got rid of its singer putting it in trouble! Just see once out of the band that with other musicians have taken into account his voice and no longer disfigured! He was criticized for the Trooper .... he came out of the band at concerts where he sang it again very well! Then a person is free to be pleased more one or another singer but we must also give credit to the commitment and discomfort received!

I had a video of this back in the 90s. It was really odd to see that Trooper incident after seeing the same song performed like that on the Donnington video. I was never really sure what had happened but a couple of years later I got a Rainbow bootleg also from Chile where someone in the audience was definitely spitting on the band. Doogie White (the singer... after being the second choice for Maiden!) made a speech about the pint he was holding up being piss and if they tried to spit on them again he'd pour it on them! Always wondered if it was the same guy in the audience! Maybe it was the same venue?

Few factors worked against Maiden during this era: Traditional Heavy Metal was “unfashionable”, lost of key members (Bruce and Adrian), very uneven material (understandable when you’ve a few albums full of classic songs) and Blaze’s voice didn’t do justice to most of the classic songs on a live setting...

Why all this animosity ?? To me it seems like most of the fans ruled out Blaze, just because he wasn´t Bruce, but why would you expect him to be.....he´s an amazing singer in himself and there are so many songs to proove me right. He wasn´t a great frontman that´s true, but he´s worthy of massive credit and respect for even trying. We can only blame the band really, they should have lowered their tuning just a bit, to meet his vocal range, especially in the classic songs like Trooper, Hallowed and so on, and why they didn´t will always be a mystery to me....Just check out Maidens official videos of : Futureal, Lord of the Flies, Virus, Man on the Edge and Afraid to Shoot Strangers, then you´ll know what I´m talking about. Or take a look at Blaze Bayley Band : especially the Edge of Darkness and Look for the Truth.......I promise he´ll blow you away....

The X factor is so underrated - ok some of the songs are lengthy but the quality of the songs speak for themselves. If this record came out under a different band name I think it would of sold loads. Sign of the cross has a lengthy intro but its a great song. some of the intros on "The Final Frontier" are simply boring and that's being kind.

This is one of my most watched Maiden live shows. X Factor is one of my favorite albums ever and it's cool to see most of them live here. Quit crying and spewing hatred toward this man. It's true that his vocals are an acquired taste but if you haven't acquired that taste then so be it. Go watch some other live show.

All voices arent the same. The fault was from the Irons who didnt change the tuning to feat Blazes voice. That is the truth which noone understand. Blaze personal albums are amazing. But i think that they didnt respect his abilities, so he sounded awful.

Believe me,theare are much worst singers in metal music than blaze. And really famous. I didnt like Blaze in Maiden. He was a bad choise. X factor is a very loveble album for me, but for a personal reason. Its all about managment and how everybody belongs in rock history. Blaze found guilty for been in Maiden, and that was his doom. If you really think this deep, you may see that im right. He had a respectfull underground carrer in hard rock before, and some really good underground heavy metal albums after Maiden. He isnt the best one out theare but he can sing some shit. I respect that you dont lke him, and from your words, i suspect that you are a musisian. Im laso, so dont say that we dont have any idea. I like him, you dont. Its pointless to argue for something innerself.

Alek, this was my first time ever writing on such forum :-) but yes i was a musician when i was young at University back in Portugal and i recorded 5 albums, 8 videos 2 dvd and 4 tours, were good times but being a Maiden fan i could never understand, not even the fact of accepting or not, but.. to understand how on earth this gent go this job. Steve harris told me in Algarve that the new singer didn t have much range but it would manage, from that point i though " disaster" . yes he was fine with Wolfsbane and was a Rock funny act but.... he almost destroyed our good old maiden, what a disaster. a friend of mine put some videos from our band, youtube ARYA grounded, or ARYA tell me or even TIMELESS live At hard Club if you want to check an old Rock band from Portugal. It should be me getting that job ehehe wouldn need to work hard now lol. Thanks Alek, at the end all tastes are valid, just not this one please lllloolll but of course you have an idea or more then that even, is just pushing you :-)

Arya song now hearing is a killing song. Bravo. I wish i had been in a tour like you. Younger i was in an Greek underground band, not so great like you, but you know how this story ends. Your band sounds amazing, you are lucky to have done so many things, bravo again. Anyway my english are terrible so i try here. In my life i always saw music not as a competiion, but as a peacefull energy who makes me feel emotions and made me a better man. I never care if a singer or a guitar player plays 200 notes in a second and also sads me people trying to compare musissians or getting so hatefull for other mussisians, its a fucking art and not a demostration. Music comes from our soul and if it is true, its ok for me. Its all about the feeling of a song, the melody, the sound, or even only the words of a song . Blaze isnt a diamond, and he could never sing bruce songs. Hearing him live, i hear a man who lost his voice trying to sing in highter notes. so at the end he couldnt sing his own songs, he almost destroyed his voice. He was a young man who had an amazing opportunety and he sayd yes to it, he even didnt believe it. Come on everybody would say yes to sing in Maiden! Steve wants ...Maiden do. That what happened. Im not trying here to change your thoughts. Im just saying for me that the X factor is a missunderstood album. Its a really deep , dark, sad, doom, heavy album with hard rock tone. A really strange and unique mix, and Blaze is nt a problem for me. He even wrote some good stuff and ideas in theare. Wish you the best... thanks for answering
