I made my comment with reference to Caspian Report before reading yours. I offered a link, too. But in Stratfor's defense, they are a commercial agency which uses such short clips as advertisement of their product. Texts are way richer, and I am sure paid product is excellent, no?

After collapse of soviet union, the aggressive colonial powers, and Saddam regime, it is the first time in some hundred years that Iran surrounded by weaker states, except Turkey and US navy in Persian Gulf . Establishing a security agreement with US and reaching an understanding with Turkey would be the next steps in securing the borders. Greater middle east would matter less for Iran if a balance of power within divided Arab states is realized. Considering long history of cultural and trade hub in west Asia, Iran have to restore its soft power superiority in the next door regions in order to secure its internal dynamics as well, maybe the most critical security problem in long run. Water supply management and Economic growth are the most immediate internal security issues which shall need to be addressed quickly.

Iran did not defeated or conquered by Turks, but only the Macedonians, the Arabs and the Mongols recorded three failures in the 10,000 years of Iranian civilization ...The beginning of the Turks presence in Iran is that...The Turks were the slaves who fought for Iran(Persia) in wars, but later they came to power with something like a coup...

Because Iranic civilisation started from Zagros mountain. Even before that Elam empire, which then lated resolved into Persian empire, was based on Zagros mountain.

I may add that first, the normal people on " those other contoling countries " are not living under poverty line . Second, we don't want to have control over other countrie and turn them into ruins . Is Mut'ah a true Islam?

Persia reached its territorial height a millennia before any of the conquerers you mentioned. After the Arabs, the Buyids were the only Persian dynasty to go beyond modern day Iran before the Seljuq turks. Between the turks and the Mongols there were no ruling Persian dynasties. After the Mongols, the minor Persian kingdoms never expanded in to non Persian lands. And only after a Timurid invasion was an independent united Shahdom of Persia established under the Azeri and over time more and more Persian Safavid dynasty. The only lands beyond Persia that they ruled over were Mesopotamia and lands in the Caucasus. So no, Persian expansion definitely wasn’t initiated by outside conquerors.

The name Iran was actually chosen by the Persians to keep from discrimination and labeling the nation as one ethnicity. As only half of Iran is actually Persian, the Shah chose the name "Iran" as its future name in order to represent all of those in Iran. The meaning of Iran is similar or same to Aryan. Iran in Persia means "Land of the Aryans"

Cyrus the Great, Darius, Xerxes and others were Persians NOT Iranians. from India to Greece and Egypt the Great power and civilisations were Persian. the modern name IRAN was adopted for politics to be more inclusive of the various ethnic groups inhabiting the Iranian Plateau. but their language, culture and customs are still Persian. The name GREEK is a mystery coined by some crazy Roman in former Greek southern Italy. there has never been a name called Greek for Greeks. HELLAS and HELLENES is the correct name and always has been. the Name YUNAN and YUNANISTAN which since Persian times has become the name for Hellas and Hellenes comes from the region Of IONIA (now Turkey) which was conquered by the Persians around 500BC and and applied to all Greeks.

The Greeks conquered them, then the Parthian. Then they freed themselves, fought the Byzantines, lost, and were pushed over by the Arabs after losing against Heraclius (the Byzantine Emperor). Then came the Turks and Mongols, and some other factions until the year 1501, when Iran finally assumed its more or less modern form.

+Fender Blues thanks for your input. Iran means Land of Aryans. It's not a hostile name at all in fact. We've had Iranian Plato and the word Iran has been around for at least 4,000 years. Persia is the name of the core Persian Empire, today only a province of Iran. Imagine if the United States was called "Texas". How would others feel? So King of the Kings, Shahanshah Reza Pahlavi changed the country name to Iran to reflect the greater Iranian ethnicity.

This is really unhealthy way of thinking and deep down comes from anxiety over differences...
