jarl balgruuf I haven't properly tried the S8, so can only really comment on the Mate 10 Pro. The battery life is killer, I've never had less than 30% by the end of the day (~10pm), and then 40-odd minutes gives me a full charge. Screen is a little bigger than the S8, although resolution is lower. That said, the screen is still stunning! Camera is (arguably) better, because the dual lenses allow for portrait shots as well as lossless zoom. As for the software, I really haven't had a problem, and I really like some EMUI features. Oh yeah, performance is lightning fast, and I can't say I've heard the same about the S8... Hope this helps, and let me know if you go for the Mate!

Deliquescator I think it’s because while Notes have always had some of the best battery life, with “last year’s” phone fiasco, they put a slightly smaller one while increasing the screen size. If they hadn’t packed the battery so tight, which was what was causing it to short, they would’ve put one bigger this year.

With the way i use my s8+, the battery lasts sometimes up to 70hrs. Never had that with any other phone.

Chinese Phones are better at price/quality of what you are paying. Yes, thats why I changed from an iPhone 7 Plus to a Huawei P10 (Performance increased a lot when I work or I play games, at a lower cost, I am happy 😃)

Higher pixels, faster processor, bigger screen, upgraded RAM, OS and other features DO play a key role in determining the battery life.

Kaleid KaleidPL Notes used to have some of the best battery life but after the note 7 issue which packed the battery so tight it was shorting they decided to play it safe and make it a tiny bit smaller than last year’s while increasing screen size (3500mah vs 3300). So it still has a pretty decent battery life but not like it was known for in the past. My coworker carries a bank but he also uses themes hardcore. That’s partly the jist of it, it’s too easy to beat down the note’s battery when it can spike to 1100 nits.

Can you do a retest in 6 months time? New phones with fresh batteries have an epic life. My new S7 Edge managed 11 hours of Netflix when it was new. That soon dropped to about 5.

Yeah man nice job... The two top were the 1plus and Mate 10 ... Don't both of those phones come with a lower resolution screen then the rest of the phones tested... I'm guessing that's probably one of the main reasons why those two phones lasted the longest... Anyway writing this on my Mate 9 that has pretty good battery life honestly.

iPhone X went pretty good considering it was the flagship phone with the smaller battery. And also it is fair to say that the note 8 didn’t go so bad remembering that it is a phone with a higher resolution display. And last but not least it was evident that Huawei went further thanks to its huge 4000 mAh battery.

I don't think that's a good way of comparing ... the ratio is to b taken ...like time taken to die / mAh of the battery..or inverse of this which one has the better ratio win .. it is like a boxing match between the two boxers who has different weight.. for example ..take an iPhone X for a moment ,it has 2716 mAh that last for 5h 14m which is huge..for that capacity of battery... and note 8 got 3300 capacity but last for only 4h 58mins.. Putting in full hd will only reduce stress on the gpu. It will save some battery but it won't be comparable to a native 1080p. The s8 display still has 2560x1440 pixels no matter what the resolution is

This is the first battery review I have seen with the note 8 going out first. I have watched many of them and the Iphone x has always been the first one out and the note 8 has been one of the last ones out.

Would be interested in seeing this in 3 years . When pixel will get android R and iPhone newest iOS. While the others presumably are still on Oreo . For me software is everything.

Well, software id good but iOS 11 was an absolute mess and there is a reason a lot of iPhone users still stick with iOS 10.3.3 and doesn't update right away. We also need to consider that especially on older devices, and the new phone slowing controversy is another example of why new and timely updates is not always a good thing. I'm not saying supporting OEMs that release late updates, and yeah they should fix that issue, but as you said iOS and Android belongs to Apple and Google respectively, so they actually have a huge advantage in this department over other OEMs. But again your personal preference of getting the latest updates in time matters the most in your case. Don't get me wrong - I love software too, but hardware is also 50% of the phone IMO. Plus, I can't live without Samsung Pay.

Ezequiel Perez The camera was top 3 guaranteed last year, you also have to take into consideration that the average person won't be able to tell the difference since it's so small. The camera being bad is an understatement, it's actually pretty good.

You should have used or also included the galaxy s8+ it's a monster

I have done many test on S8,when i bought it the device was not new but used for around 1 year. Battery life was very good. After few months the only thing affecting it was cold weather sometimes shut down with 20-30%. I replaced battery and it was like new again.

I say the iPhone X fought hard considering its battery capacity, lol

You should compare same PPI phones !! The mate pro have only 401 ppi , it's not fair !!

for some users they concern about some certain apps eg FB, Camera, Viber, Zalo. Hope that you have other videos test only specific apps.
