When using dual displays, how about screen sharing on web conferencing apps? Does it have options to share only the secondary monitor? Or apps specific screen?

This is a second class release for non-M1 iPads Pros. The A12X is more than capable of running these M1-only features.

Yeah this is bull****, only 4 years support for the latest updates? Ive got the 1TB 2018 iPad Pro. My MacBook from 2012 had like 8 years of support.

Clamshell mode is important to MacBooks because you don’t want 2 keyboards cluttering up your desktop. But this isn’t such a big deal for iPads. An iPad on a stand is more like a small monitor. That’s one reason why I love iPads so much, the keyboard isn’t attached and hogging unnneeded desk space.

Any physical keyboard is too much. It’s always there in the way even when you don’t need it. That’s why the iPad case needs to ditch it and replace it with an oled screen. It can be a virtual keyboard, a touch pad and an extra screen all at the same time when you need it to be.

Thank you very much...answered my questions and more i didn't even think about.

I ended with both the M1 12.9 iPad Pro and M1 MacBook Air. I realize not everyone wants or needs that combination but it gives me a ton of flexibility. The Magic Keyboard and iPad Pro 12.9 are my favorite combo, but the M1 MacBook Air battery is incredible and I use that on my clinical clerkships (3rd year medical student). They both have their strengths and weaknesses, but iPadOS 16 has made me want to grab my iPad Pro even more now. Really loving the new features and Developer Beta 1 has been quite stable across apps.

When using it without a keyboard you can just use a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad. That is pretty amazing because it allows you to use a desktop and use your tablet to write notes or draw

If you have an external keyboard (like a regular one) connected you should be able to use it in clamshell mode. You'll be able to wake up the iPad by pressing keys on the keyboard.

Can you use two external displays with the iPad Pro ? Or is it limited to 1 like the regular M1 MacBooks ? Wonder if using an external docking station that allows M1 laptops to have 2 external displays would also work for the iPad

I’m aware that you can hide the dock and the stage manager side sections by holding down on the stage manager button in control center. I would like to see how that works as far as giving you more screen real estate and how navigating between windows or stage manager sections works with the keyboard (using command tab for instance). Can you cursor over to the side and the bottom to reveal and switch between things? Would also like to see what the difference between each of the display zoom settings is like. There are multiple options for showing more or less on screen at once depending on the zoom options.

Like some people I have asked already I would like to know; 1) What is it like with the 2018 model, I do have both 2018 and M1 2) If the monitor does not have speakers is the sound muted and do will still need a speaker like the Mini's Great video and answered some questions I had by watching some others. I will wait until the 2 public versions before trying.

That’s gonna be interesting. Eventually, you should have an option, which speakers to use.

1 - I’m wondering if a presentation app can use that second monitor as the necessary second display. Like Keynote, PowerPoint, maybe a new one like worship presentation software, etc. Will it be a great second display? Full screen? 2 - I wonder if Apple will make it so you can tell the iPad that your monitor is in portrait mode. Would be a good thing for it to adjust to both landscape and portrait on not just the iPad, but the monitor as well. And not have to have both in the same orientation. 3 - Just some helpful presentation tips for you… you tend to repeat yourself sometimes, especially when ending. You take awhile to end your videos. You ended this one like three times. LOL To me, I just see it as you being you and talking to us like you’re here with us, but it could be a bit more professional if you don’t repeat yourself and say the same things when closing. Just bullet points.

Great overview. Question: is the full screen mode without side straps available using the Apple folio keyboard as well? Seems it doesn’t fit the screen when connecting directly without magic keyboard.

Can it open one app below another app in portrait mode?( example youtube lecture on upper half and goodnotes on bottom half)? I really need that but splitscreen on my 12.9 ipad pro opens apps only side by side not one above another.

I have a big rare issue... on my iPad PRO M1 11' pluged on a Magic Keyboard the IOS16.1 doesn't show on the DIsplay & Briteness section the two option i have, my retina screen and a samsung monitor i have, so no chance to see any menu of arrangements of the 2 screens... any idea, i used a HUB USC C.

When plugged into the external monitor I noticed you only tried to wake the clamshelled/sleeping iPad using your mouse. Pretty sure you need to wake it using an external keyboard. Does it work if you try it that way?

You can actually hide the bottom and side sections on stage manager. I haven’t seen anyone mess around with that and try to navigate the space with it hidden so I would like to see that because that’s how I would use it as to not lose screen real estate. I wonder if you command tab to switch between sections or windows, or just cursor to the edge of the screen where those section are to reveal them.

every time i connect the secondary monitor it zooms in on the top left corner of the image the screen works and everything but I can’t see the windows. Anybody got any ideas on how to fix this?

Can you please show us if apps can work 3x1 or 2x2? I really don't see the point of stage manager if all apps are stacked. I wanna see if we can have 3 or 4 apps available to see at once without stacking them on top of each other.

I dont get how most covering stage mode are not covering exactly this! Feels like a big deal, as you said, few scenarios I would want app over app, but being abl to arrange them how I want to see them all at the same time, that is the stuff. I can tell you (I have the IpadOS 16 beta) it is not easy, you can play with sizes to sort of get that effect, but you can feel apps really want to overlap with each other, and there is no easy way to put them in grids next to each other, I hope it gets better, if not is a big miss for me.

I seen a pic on Reddit showing that you can do it. On the picture the apps were arranged vertically.

Can you use an external monitor on non m1 ipads?

I am using a dongle to connect to my 34 inch ultrawide. Resolution on the monitor is not right . Its zoomed in and I can only see half screen. I tried disconnecting and connecting several times. Let see if this will get fixed in later releases.

I feel like the 11” with Stage Manager and External Display support now provides the best balance of portability on the go and productivity at the desk. Just wish it had the mini LED screen.

That's totally up to you. Sometimes I do wish I could have the 12.9" just so I can do a bit more with something like art/drawing. Does help that the black bars would be much less noticeable in dark areas when watching videos too. But the 11" is still solid.

I have tried using the apple HDMI dongle with my M1 iPad Pro but didn't work with my monitor

Here's my big question and what doesn't make sense to me. Stage Manager is almost like another take on a dock. So now I have 2 docks taking up real estate, plus my apps (up to 4) are all windowed giving me even less space to work. I got the 12.9" to maximize my working real estate, isn't this going backwards in a way? What's it giving me that cmd-tabbing through a couple open apps doesn't, other than less space?

it just mirrors the display. it'll have black bars on the side since it has a 4:3 aspect ratio

KZread premium pip work on stage manager ?

By the way, I don't think the M1 chip itself in the iPad Pro supports more than 1 external display. Even the M2 chip in the new Macbook Air/Pro can't handle more than 1 external monitor, so I don't think the iPad will be able to either. Just a heads up!
