Intellivision Amico Fans and the Sunk Cost Fallacy

Ойындар

Some Amico fans seems to have sunk so much time money and effort into the Amico that they can't see the wood for the trees.

Really appreciate this take and insight. Couldn't agree more. I was in deep. Didn't want to see it fail, didn't want to be wrong, but most importantly, didn't want to throw Tommy under the bus. He knows that, and I firmly believe, looking back, that he used that angle to his advantage. He took advantage of my kindness. I don't think Tommy is intentionally a "bad person" per se, but someone who is fixated on winning, at whatever cost. That can be troublesome. As for the cult members, many still have me blocked from the moment I decided to speak out and present another side to the story. I've been completely cut off from communication. Our group chat was disbanded, etc. It's crazy. Has gone well beyond even what I could have imagined. Thank you again for this video. I can only hope some of these folks that are pot-committed to the Amico can watch this with a somewhat open mind and realize EXACTLY what is happening to them right now. It's truly sad.

Cheers Smash. Yeah, I've been following the Amico story for a while. I actually ordered the Founders Edition, or whatever it was called, on the day the pre-orders went live and I only cancelled it about two weeks ago. When I tried to tell the Amico Club on Facebook that I'd cancelled but that Intellivision were fulfilling refunds pretty quickly (I cancelled on Friday and received the refund on Monday), I got a message from the group saying the post was innappropriate. It was weird because I actually thought knowing they were actually refunding people might be a small positive. It wasn't taken that way, though. Quelle surprise I agree with you. I don't think Tommy was trying to be a "bad person" as you put it, or that he started out with the intention of scamming people. I think Rich at ReviewtechUSA summed it up quite well when he said he doesn't think Tommy is CEO material. I do think he used some KZreadrs, though, whether intentionally or otherwise and that's not a good look. And the way the company is behaving now is pretty shady. As for the group, I think the way they've treated you is truly bizarre. As I say, I've felt a little bit of that myself but nothing like you've had to experience. So much negativity from a group of people who claim to be all about positivity is verging on the psychotic. I do think it comes down to the sunk cost fallacy, though. Those guys must know on some level that the Amico is over but they still can't admit that to themselves. That would also explain their behaviour towards you and others. You're an apostate now and that makes you worse in their eyes than those who were never interested in the Amico. Hopefully some of them will wake up and realise, at the very least, that their behaviour is irrational and, at times, pretty reprehensible. By the way, the video of you being banned while live streaming did make me chuckle, so at least we managed to get a laugh out of all this.

I had an Intellivision back in the 70s! It was my first ever gaming console (poor man’s Atari!).

thats what got me into this amico thing seeing how both sides respond, more so one side is in a mere dream like state of delusions and lack of common sense, lack of insight, lack of ability, lack of awareness.....its literally a scientific study of human behavior in of itself having nothing to do with a game console or gaming community.

Yes, I actually think it would make a great psychological case study for someone. I'd love to see what they would make of it.

I had to laugh at your hi-fi story. I grew up in the '70s and '80s and my dad had a bunch of high-end Macintosh equipment. Speakers and turntables and a reel to reel, that sort of thing. In those days the goal was to get a clearer, crisper more high fidelity sound from your equipment and you could spend an infinite amount of money chasing that dragon, buying more and more equipment to clean up the imperfect sound from analog recordings. And then CD players came out. There's a reason why hifi audiophiles today are all young. They think they're reclaiming some glorious, pure tradition from the past which people like my 80 year old father moved on from long, long ago.

Glad it gave you a laugh. It makes me smile too and it helps to remind me that I'm just as prone to this stuff as anyone else (except my mate's mum 😉😂). Hifi can get really silly at times and some of the things people spend their time on is just weird. I remember a guy writing in to a magazine once, boasting about the £50k he'd spent on cables for his system. He'd actually spent more on the cables than the hifi components themselves, which was just bizarre. The best bit was one of the replies though. A guy told him that he could buy a box at the Royal Albert Hall for that sort of money. People are weird and hifi people can be weirder than most. Perhaps that's why I'm so good at recognising those who are prone to buy snake oil. After all, I've bought enough of it myself in the past 😉
